Thank you for sharing. It's nice to take a step back and see the craftsmanship it took to get us to where we are now...

You'll need this knowledge after global temps rise +3 more degrees and /or after solar flare.

William Caxton was an English merchant, diplomat, and writer. He is thought to be the first person to introduce a printing press into England, in 1476,

Great video - tho would be nice to see the resulting completed page after the demo printing process.

Why did the paper have to be damp for printing? What if the paper were dry? Whether the ink bleeds, I would have thought, would depend more on the quality of the paper that whether it was damp.

What was the typical largest size sheet of paper used by most early printers? For multiple pages printed with each impression, how many pages would typically be produced on the early presses? 2? 4? 8? It looks like by the time the sheet is folded the 3d time, each page begins to be pretty small and not much larger than a modern day paperback book even if the initial sheet size was quite large.

Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of building a One Pull Press myself, to demonstrate the printing process at the time of Johan Gutenberg.

So this is a machine Aegidius Gillis Van De Raede would have used I guess.

A compositor had to be right handed!!! The gentleman setting the type in the setting stick is obviously left handed. Whenever young men went for job interviews, to be a compositor they were given a setting stick to hold, if they reached with their left hand they invariably "didn't get the job". I worked for 40 years in the printing industry, never saw a compositor holding setting stick like that! I also worked a Cambridge University Press as a compositor for 4 years. Compositors were always Right handed!!!

Yes, you are correct. I also was a compositor for 30 years or so in several different firms including Hazell, Watson & Viney in Aylesbury. Never saw a left-handed compositor. It does surprise me the number of incorrect items that are shown by "experts" on printing.

The narrator goes a bit quick and I had to watch a couple of times to take notes, but a great video otherwise.
