    I have ZERO digitizing and embroidery experience & your videos are SOOOO easy to follow!! You do such a great job explaining everything and you move at such a good pace that its easy to follow along!!! Prior to watching this video, I was watching another inkstitch tutorial video and I felt so lost/confused, that person was moving too quick and not explaining everything they were doing, and I watched that video 3 times!! Yes, 3 times and still didn't understand wtf I was doing & kept getting lost!! The only thing I got out of that video was learning how to download Inkscape/Inkstitch onto my Mac. My embroidery machine is still sitting by my front door in an unopened box and I was starting to lose hope & was seriously thinking about shipping it back. BUT THEN, I found your videos! I've already learned sooo much!! My only regret is that I didn't find you sooner!!! Im going to watch a few more of your videos and I'm going to open my embroidery machine (its been sitting there for awhile). Keep up the good work! Can't wait to watch the rest of your content. :) please keep making more beginner videos.

    I just love your videos. I taught myself inkscape 5 years ago for using the cricut. I just bought my embroidery machine (Husqvarna Designer Topaz 50) and was thrilled to learn about inkstitch. I just had foot surgery and I can't bear weight on it for 6 weeks so watching your videos and learning will help my recovery. Thank You! Happy Stitching!

    Excellent video. I recently started with inkscape 1.2. Had no idea it had an embroidery extension. I remember version 0.9 inkscape years ago on Ubuntu and had not looked at it in years. So many improvements. I will be adding this inkstitch as I do have embroidery machine. I used to use Thred digitizing software years ago, based on vector. Eventually programmer retired.
    He put the software out for GNU. Not sure where it is now. Would be nice if it could be another extension for inkscape. It did all sorts of nice shapes. AND lots of fill patterns.
    This video is well organized and your voice is clear and easy to understand. Thank you for doing videos.

    Hello, I have been learning extensively from your videos and appreciate you taking your time with the information and instruction. I noticed something with the latest version of InkStich when you create an object with a solid stroke, the render now produces a straight line stitch instead of the fill line. I don't know if this is because of the update to the new version, but I wanted to mention this for future updates if you are planning them to this basic series.

    Can I put a border on a font? Would I need to do that as a font, then border it like it was an applique?
    Have you had any trouble saving a file for a different machine as a .pes file for your Brother machine?

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you
      Yes, if you're doing a fill stitch font you can improve it's overall effect greatly by doing a border. Make your font, set it to fill, no border. Duplicate it and set it to no fill, border.
      I started out saving as pes for our brother machines. Now that we also have a ricoma, which can only use dst, I now save only as dst since both machines can use dst. Keep in mind dst won't show proper colors on the embroidery machine display. I plan on doing a video of showing some differences between the different extensions that you can save using ink stitch.

    • @LowTechLinux

    When setting hoop size in Inkstitch, would it be wise for me to choose the actual maximum size my machine sews (I'll have to check the manual, but likely 3.94x3.94) instead of the size 4x4 that the hoop is commonly referred to? I noticed that you mentioned millimeters can be used. I will use whichever my machine manual refers to.
    When working in Inkstitch, do most people use their computer mouse? I ran across an ad for a new product called Design Doodler. I am totally inexperienced, but it appears to me that the main difference with that program is that it seems to be intended to be used with a drawing tablet, which is advertised to make the process go much faster. The ads do say that the resulting designs in Design Doodler will not be as professional as digitized designs. I'd be interested in thoughts from people who have seen the ads and who have also used Inkstitch.
    Thank you so much for your clear instructions! I'm watching tonight while canning applesauce and cleaning up, but am really excited to try creating designs in Inkstitch.

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  2 роки тому +1

      I usually set my design template size to just a little less than my hoop size. I usually design for a 110mm but set the size in inkscape at 100mm. If you set the same size then have to adjust something up (like pull comp for example) you'll end up out of range. Set a little smaller and you'll have room to move.
      I design almost everything with mouse, but I do have a waccom pen tablet that I really don't use. If I were to practice with it more maybe I'd like it more, idk.

    I love your videos!!! You've made the most concise, easy to follow, and useful Inskscape/Inkstitch tutorials and I'm super excited now I can make custom embroidery files out of my digital drawings. I have a question though, when I make a custom patch there's exposed fabric/unfilled 'gaps' in between where certain colors/segments/pieces are supposed to connect (I wish I could just show a picture but I don't think I can)- and I was wondering is there was a way to fill in these gaps? For instance, I'm making a patch of an orange creature with black eyes and a black satin stitch outline on yellow fabric and while the simulator preview on Inkscape would show the black and orange fitting perfectly together, as soon as I stitch it out on my Brother embroidery machine there would small spaces of exposed yellow fabric around the eyes or between the body and outline. At first I thought it was the tension or the fabric but even when I used different fabrics/tensions the issue was consistent. Then I thought this was just what Inkstich does to the .pes files (it's free after all, so who am I to complain?) but then I have some custom, intricate, patches with no gaps- all the colors fit together perfectly! Even though I make these .pes files exactly the same way as the files that had 'gaps'! Thanks so much for the help you've given and while I don't think this issue has to do with Params I'd love to see this series continue.

      Thank you for the kind words ☺️.
      Can you send a picture of the stitch out to me at dale@lowtechlinux.com?
      Without seeing the image I'm guessing you have underneath objects peaking through where there's a sharp turn in you overlay stitching? It may be as simple as increasing the overlay object density in params (lowering the zig-zag spacing between rows).

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  2 роки тому

      How did you create the line? The bezier tool and the line tool will make a simple line that can be converted to a satin stitch, or a running stitch changing it to a dotted line. A line that looks like a line but is actually a fill stitch line will not work, usually that's from a trace bitmap.
