    The Vang guys are some of my favorite people. They are my first choice for doing work on my serious use shotguns. I know that the work will be top notch along with the service, and they understand WHY guns are set up the way they are because they get out and train with them.

    Maybe a stupid question.. but instead of going to all the effort of lengthening the forcing cone and back boring the barrel, wouldn't it be easier to just thread the barrel? (Then you could just add a tighter choke tube if you wanted.)
    *Edit
    Ohhh... Never mind. It would block the porting and you'd lose the recoil reduction.

    • @AK-47ISTHEWAY
      @AK-47ISTHEWAY 4 місяці тому +1

      Thread the barrel for choke tubes, but use extended ported chokes. Problem solved, and it is a much cheaper option compared to the Vang Comp System.

    I was thinking about selling my Mossberg 590 to offset the cost of the Beretta 1301 I got. Now I'm debating sending the Mossberg to get the Vang Comp treatment.

    • @AK-47ISTHEWAY
      @AK-47ISTHEWAY 2 роки тому

      I would just sell the Beretta and keep the Mossberg, but don't bother sending it to Vang Comp. If you really want a "tight pattern" don't even use buckshot just use a low recoil segmenting slug.

    So you can use a drill and brush to clean the bore…I see that right? My 1301 has a tone of plastic build up in the center barrel. Almost looks like pitting but it’s brand new. Beretta says we don’t know and shouldn’t be happening. People advise against drill and brush because it can make it worse 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @VangComp
      @VangComp 2 роки тому +4

      If you don't know what you're doing, then a drill and brush can make it worse. If you're having plastic fouling, check out RGS Bore Cleaner. Let it soak then brush it out, you should be G2G.

    Strange to see a custom shop that offers accuracy improvements that doesn't pattern the gun.

    • @VangComp
      @VangComp 2 роки тому +10

      It's because we have been doing it for 30 years we have the recipe down pat. And to be fair, a pattern test was in the video (the cardboard shots). We just don't pattern test every single barrel because there isn't any benefit for us or for the client. Every load is going to pattern in every barrel a bit differently. So we have a guarantee of a 10-12" pattern at 25 yards with 00 Buck. If your barrel doesn't pattern with your load, you send it back to us and we make it run and reimburse you for shipping.

      @@VangComp true - but right now (today) its the difference between buying a new $500+ gun if you can even find one, or a $15 - $25 piece of rubber you can buy TODAY. No telling yet what Mossberg will charge for a conversion kit or what availability will be like after/if one is released. I waited months just to buy a Factory magazine tube CAP for a Mossberg 930, and have been waiting almost 2 years for the 930 SPX to return to prices based in reality.
      Sportsman Guide took backorders for ammo promising delivery in 2 months, continued to push the delivery date back by months till it was over a year wait, then changed it to 2 years past the original order dates - until they finally cancelled all 4 of my orders - all because they did not what to honor the price the ammo was advertised at while taking orders. Yet, that same ammo is still advertised on the site at a much higher price. Basically they made bulk ammo orders for everyone - and by the time the ammo came in retail prices jumped so much instead of honoring the orders they decided to instead sell it off to new customers with a 30- 40% markup…. (Rant Over)
      These days you are better off going with the option you know you can get now, esp when your only talking about a $15 investment. Just my 2 cents.

      @@kctyphoon Good point. Yes, it's crazy times now. The point I wanted to make is that the Opsol Clip doesn't always play well with regular shells also. I do have the 590S in stock right now and they run 1-3/4", 2-3/4" and 3" shells without modification.

    Why would you want a tight pattern with a shotgun? Why wouldn’t you just use a rifle or slug if you want a tighter pattern? Also isn’t the whole point of buckshot to spread and put a bunch of lead out there?

    • @AK-47ISTHEWAY
      @AK-47ISTHEWAY 2 роки тому +1

      Yes. The Vang Comp barrel in my opinion, is just a gimmick along with stuff like federal tactical buckshot with the flight control wad. In my area, slugs are cheaper than the tactical buckshot.

    • @95dodgev10
      @95dodgev10 Рік тому +5

      This is an older post but maybe you'll see it. If you're blasting birds then yes you want spread. For home defense not so much. You're responsible for every object that comes out of the barrel. Let's say a baddie breaks in and you shoot with regular 00. In my shotgun Winchester super x patterned 10" at about 30ft. 10" will land all pellets on a baddie IF i land a dead center shot. When stressed confused and half asleep what are the odds i aim perfect? Ok so now 1 or 2 pellets miss now where do they go? Do they hit a fridge and stop? Go through a wall and hit my dog or child? Maybe even through a window and hit a neighbor's house. Ok so to fix the spread problem you go slugs. Single object less likely to miss, certainly capable of stopping a threat.. as well as everything in its path for a very long distance. Most slugs are full power, waaay over penetrate a human size target and can hit who knows what behind. A tight 00 group hits concentrated like a slug first so less likely to miss, but rapidly spreads out inside the body causing lots of damage but more importantly slowing down much faster than a slug reducing passing through a threat into whats behind them. Federals flight control shells have lower velocity helping this even more, stay super tight, don't recoil as bad improving follow up shots, and inside a structure wont totally rock your ears as bad as a full power slug (but will still suck) and they routinely hit the sweet spot in ballistic gel testing. This is long winded but knowledge is power.
