Quite possibly the most classic of all songs ever written. Haunting and timeless. I would like to think that in 500 years people will still be listening to and enjoying this masterpiece.
I completely agree with you! In hundred of beautiful rock&pop songs, this is my favourite, since the first time I heared it in october, 1967! Regards from Rosario city, Argentina!
This song has ALWAYS been magical to me. Enchanting, Beautiful, sad, and yet sooo telling. The music is phenomenal.Their ability to have I believe the Philharmonic Orchestra to accompy them on their 1st album is quite a feat in and of itself . Their best song particularly for the times. I believe this song came out in 1967. The times were magical for those older than I. If you sit back and listen to the song with your earphones on and your eyes closed in a dark room it takes you to all kinds of places. Both to magical kingdoms and yet , maybe down to the doldrums. Either way, I think it's one of the most beautiful songs that has ever been written both musically and the way he can only sing it. And that orchestra just is the cherry on the top of the cake. This song will always be held close to my heart sooo many memories. Of a happier time. A fear free and carefree time. It speaks volumes that it's still being listened to by numerous generations of people.But... Isn't that what Legendary music does?? 0r is supposed to do?? This passes with flying colors. Regardless of which we decide and which is an illusion.
I was in the Navy when this came out, just returned from Nam. My buddy had this on a reel to reel in our ready room. We would sit there in the dark quiet of the room, this reel to reel playing this song that took us far away back to our loved ones. It had a magic to it that stays with me to this day.
First , Thank you for your service. This is a lovely song that brings up all sorts of feelings for me every single time I listen to it. It is a treasure and yes, it does have magic. Being a 60's child, it has a wealth of meaning to me. I can only imagine what it must mean to you.
Snap..... I too was in the Navy and used to do evening stints in the SRE compartment. Moody Blues records were always a first request and you could hear the ships company blasting away in song to each word sung.
And tonight's the night am I blue Moon so look up and think back cuz those great words I think produced I do work wonders listen to the words I'm grateful their works
Don't forget Grahme also.. He is no longer with us (or the group), its now just Justin and John, of course Mike is still around, but hasn't been with the group for many many years.
I totally agree! I LOVE it; one of my very, VERY favorite songs of all time! 🤗❤️ (I remember one time listening to this parked by a lake at night over the car radio - an AM station, with a little static - but it kind of added to its feeling of the surreal.)
It was a time of poets, musicians. Everyone knew someone who was a song writer, poet, and/or composed music. At least most did, we were the baby boomers. We thought for ourselves, fought for our country, protested the war, lived through the tragedies of those times and got the 18 year old vote. (If you're old enough to fight, your old enough to vote was our motto). Only after parents joined in the protests did we see the end of the war. Every step of the way marked by music.
Part of getting older is watching the musicians that were such a huge part of your life leave this world. This song definitely makes it onto the soundtrack to my life RIP Ray Thomas...Thanks for the music.
Haunting and timeless... It's good to be able to go back in time with a song like this and escape the madness of today's world... for a little while anyways. John Cali
Dimitris Katris I'm 67 as well Dimitris . They dont make music like this anymore . I was married in 1965 to the love of my life and lost him 6 years ago . Some how this makes the memories very special .

The spoken piece at the end of this extended version is so rare to hear on radio. I haven’t heard this version in years. I don’t know what made me think of this when I woke up this morning the spoken words at the end of this song was in my head. I had to come to hear it. Listening with my husband whose 4 years my elder and, he’d never heard it before. He said it was a little creepy and it is, I remember hearing it as a kid bcuz my father was a huge music lover and musician so I was brought up on the classics, thanks to my Daddy. (I guess I dream in music.) Good morning world
In my opinion the best band of all time! I, anyway, love her more than all the bands. The band has accompanied my life since I was a child and my love for it does not diminish, on the contrary, and in the midst of it all I have infected quite a few friends with love for it. Uzi - Israel

You have an old soul, a love and appreciation for beautiful music. Everyone who does not like this music is truly missing out. You keep listening to what you enjoy!!
My only brother would listen to this when he returned from Vietnam and he said it sounded just like Angel's singing. He only lived to be 30 yrs old and I miss him so much. Rest In Peace little brother! ❤🙏🕊
Nights in White Satin,A whiter shade of pale,Strawberry fields,A day in the life,Light my fire,San Francisco and many, many more...what a year 1967 was in music..flower power emerging.
I agree I too cannot stop listening to this song. The melody, the signing it gets right into your soul and it makes you want to listen to it more and more. This is one of my all time favorite songs from the past.
Without a doubt, this is the song of my life. October of 1967, I was just eighteen...I´m not a native english speaker, and this song helped me a lot to practice my english! I have no words to describe it, just a masterpiece, wonderful, magic song. Greetings from Argentina.
I used to put this on in my room to fall asleep by. When I inherited my step sisters flute I used the solo to teach myself to play it. Will ALWAYS love this.
There are no words how to best describe the haunting beauty of this song. The first time I heard it, many years ago when it was first released, I knew this was a masterpiece of the heart soul and mind. Thank you Moody Blues for the songs and memories.
I first heard this song when I was living in Melbourne Australia in 1995 as a college freshman... This song made me feel like an old man yearning for the years and decades passed and I was only 18 😂😂😂. After these years, this song makes me feel that poignant longing even more😊
Ray Thomas - the GREATEST musician of all time - his flute is breath taking! So beautiful - soothing - inspiring - I just melt when I hear it! I am so glad I got to see Moody in concert!
I saw them at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Colaseum with my childhood best girlfriend. Was our last concert together. Wherever you are Linley, you are always so beautiful! RIP Linley!😍❤️🥰❤️
I remember being with my Japanese girlfriend on Okinawa smoking pot, making love in our waterbed, playing under the black lights with posters on the wall listening to the Moody Blues. Nothing compares. I'll be 70 this year and the memories....

This sounds like it was recorded from vinyl and has all the rich warmth I remember when I was playing the album. Such great memories are associated with this. What a fantastic song. I almost forgot about it until I heard it in the background of a TV show I was watching. I am thrilled to rediscover what was, and is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. A classic!
I first heard this in 68 when my buddies and I was in our barracks in Germany puffing on a hash laced Mary Jane stick. man, this song brings back good times and tears of my pals that were like Brothers to me.
I love you mom. Thinking of you even after your passing a year ago. Thank you for all the music you introduced to me when I was young. I will see you again soon. 💜
Stan Stan we were happy because/despite we didnt have the internet ; instead of listening to music on YT all alone with our computer or smart phone, we met and talked and danced and played like kids
I live I Northern Minnesota, WEVE use to play this late at night every night. I would lay in bed waiting for this song to play, no matter how late back in the 70s, love this song.
Let me name the year...1978....I recorded onto a tape, the greatest hits from the Moody Blues. I would listen to this music as a studied in middle school and high school, the classics of the 20th century, resulted in an incredible memory, excellent grades and test scores. I would use the cassette to fall asleep. And then later, I would put the tape on, with others during the later hours of the house parties we attended, or the golf team's private party, my junior / senior year in HS. I'm going back to youth, and downloading every MoodyBlues song I had great life experiences to. xoxo
vaibhavi bora yes indeed....overwhelming brings you down on your knees at the same time lifting your spirit .....awe struck. ....hell I never come to speak what I want to ...such is the impact. .....beautiful. ...it brings colours and emotions to a new dimension which I always fear to probe...goosebumps. ..yes...awestruck. ...yes...FEELING BLESSED. ....HELL. .....A BIG YES

Rest in peace thomas You leave your music on our hearts that Will sound for centuries until the end of The days thank You guys for Every single notes of your music i hope My kids jacky .kat and Mike listen this iconic song someday i love You guys always ❤️❤️❤️🙏
During the middle of the song when it's just music I see myself dancing with a faceless man set Somewhere in Time hundreds of years ago... I believe it's my twin flame the other half of my soul I wonder if he's here in this world now I'd like to believe he is but I'm getting older I hope someday did our souls recognize each other before it's too late.
I remember hanging in the evenings spent at home with my hunny, just chilling, listening to their albums! A great way to spend an evening after working all day! Absolutely, love their music! ♥️
Most times I get tears in my eyes because this was so beautifully done and I have to listen to the extended version of this song because the radio stations never played it and I had to buy the album just so I can listen to do length of the words that they play in it is absolutely stunning I'm proud to be born in 66 were love was filled with music music and lift you up I can put you down live breathe and feel life through music that's what freedom is all about
Nights in white satan has always been my favorite song . I first heard it at the age of 8 . I listened to the song on a album that was my dad's. Unfortunately I left it on the turn table and the sun melted it . My dad would always remind me I had to buy him a new one . So at that age you just put it in the back of your mind.. It remained my favorite song to this day . Unfortunately i didn't find the album until I 11 and my dad had just passed away, and i bought the album and have treasured it since , I'm now 53 and I still play it over and over.( MEMORIES)
I truly believe you will be what you want to be in the end 💞The Moody Blues became what they wanted to be in the end.Amazing talented group music I never get tired of listening to ❤❤
Breathe deep, the gathering gloom Watch lights fade, from every room Bedsitter people, look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent Impassioed lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior Citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night, removes the colours from out sight Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an Illusion?
In the 60s I collected the Moody Blues - on vinyl of course - and still have a couple of their original albums. I was thought a bit strange in my tastes at the time, and still am. I thought they were the best of the day, and I haven't heard any group in the 5 decades since who I enjoy more or rate as surpassing them, but of course that assessment will engender a lot of disagreement. They were so innovative and so out of the mainstream when most bands were all about sound volume, but not necessarily about harmonious sound. The way in which they used an orchestra set them apart. I'm 73 and still can get lost in the sound of "The Blues" even today. So glad they are available on you-tube. Thanks
This song elicits so many wonderful emotions and memories of 1972 when it was reissued. I was graduating from HS, in love and ready to face the world and discover that "Just what you want to be, you'll really be in the end" ❤☮🎼
This is one of those mind traveling songs that will take you away to the depths of life without drugs, close your eyes and travel......where will you go? , how long will you be away? RockinRonny
When I first heard this I was 15, and it evoked a full vision of a faraway world, which I can still see today. Such hauntingly powerful emotions, every time. What magicians.
Música psicodelicamente demais, romântica bem final anos 60, início anos 70, conta uma linda história interior num Mundo enlouquecido ... Maravilhosa ... !!
A ballad that stirs many emotions with a poetic finish. "Late Lament". Drummer Graeme Edge wrote the verses, which were recited by keyboardist Mike Pinder. Many deep thoughts arise, life's struggles, Vincent Price, Edgar Allen Poe, the Raven. Bravo, Bravo !!!
Brings back great childhood memories, of the family, and friends that are no longer here, and days that seemed to never end, I'm glad I was there to witness great music 🎶❤
Quite possibly the most classic of all songs ever written. Haunting and timeless. I would like to think that in 500 years people will still be listening to and enjoying this masterpiece.
I love music. I don't want to die. We are older now and our music was the best, ever!

How can you possibly compare today's music with this superb mind blowing stuff makes today's artist shameful money grabbers

I used to put this on in my room to fall asleep by. When I inherited my step sisters flute I used the solo to teach myself to play it. Will ALWAYS love this.
🏆Other bands need multiple hit songs to make them great. The Moody Blues only need Nights In White Satin to make them legendary 😊🏆

Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say any more
'Cause I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you
Gazing at people, some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through they can't understand
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end
And I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you
Oh how I love you
Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I've always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say any more
'Cause I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you
Oh how I love you
'Cause I love you
Yes I love you
Oh how I love you
Oh how I love you
meilleur stil de tout les temps
Elena beautiful, isn`t it?
I have the complete version with the poem at the very end:
breath deep in gathering gloom
watch lights fade from every room
bedsitting people look back and lament
another day useless in a year spent
impassionate lovers wrestlers one
lonely man cries for love and has none
new mother picks up and suckles her son
senior citizens wish they were young
cold hearted orb
that rules the night
removes the colors from our sight
red is gray and yellow is white
but we decide which is right
and which is an illusion
one mistake: cold hearted orb that rules thenight
Thank you

Stan Stan we were happy because/despite we didnt have the internet ; instead of listening to music on YT all alone with our computer or smart phone, we met and talked and danced and played like kids
Very true Elizabeth, very true.
The Globalist's are ruining music. Also look at modern art. It is also junk. We need real music again.
Stan Stan Oh yes we do
Beautiful, haunting lyrics.💝👍🏻greetings from the UK. 🇬🇧
I live I Northern Minnesota, WEVE use to play this late at night every night. I would lay in bed waiting for this song to play, no matter how late back in the 70s, love this song.
I have loved this song since I was 14. 49 year's and this song still Touches me.. RIP Dad and Mom..
I'm going back to youth, and downloading every MoodyBlues song I had great life experiences to. xoxo

I can see myself flying slowly above clouds and admiring the view from above
During the middle of the song when it's just music I see myself dancing with a faceless man set Somewhere in Time hundreds of years ago... I believe it's my twin flame the other half of my soul I wonder if he's here in this world now I'd like to believe he is but I'm getting older I hope someday did our souls recognize each other before it's too late.
Me too.

Love my Moody Blues....been to so many concerts. I never tire of listening to the best BAND EVER!
Timeless classic!!! A piece of history is embedded in this song as we live in these trying times........
And the orchestral effects are beyond perfection!
His beautiful voice especially when he sings, "just what the truth is, I can't say anymore..."
I truly believe you will be what you want to be in the end 💞The Moody Blues became what they wanted to be in the end.Amazing talented group music I never get tired of listening to ❤❤
Breathe deep, the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade, from every room
Bedsitter people, look back and lament
Another day's useless energy spent
Impassioed lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior Citizens wish they were young
Cold hearted orb that rules the night, removes the colours from out sight
Red is grey and yellow white,
But we decide which is right,
And which is an Illusion?
Brave Helios wake up your Steeds
Bring the warmth the countryside needs
Late Lament ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕
So powerful and full of emotion - a timeless classic!!
I have loved this song ever since I first heard it nearly 60 years ago.
RIP Graeme Edge. Thanks for all the memories and the infinite imagination inspired by your songs!!
Thanks
I still remember where I was every time I hear this song. Even though I was just a kid it still takes me back every time I hear it.
I remembered LS Crazy days listening to the Moody Blues.

GREETINGS FROM CANADA
Gracias a usted!. Thanks to you!
DreamingCatStudio musicians...not magicians
Shawney32123 I used the word I meant.

Never get tired of the Moody Blues. Started listening to them in Viet Nam in the late 60's and early 70's.

Whatever happened to poetry? I don't think they teach it in schools anymore.
Like tear's in rain ... ... ...
🤍
I'm a poet
You're right there brother love and peace to you xx
Lol "Rap music".
