I found a way to use a larger capacity SD card, so you're not limited to the 32GB maximum -- just wanted to share in case anyone has the same needs as me. I'm using a 256GB version of the card Drew recommends and getting 11.5h of available recording time on 32 channels. 1) Do not attempt to format the card in the X32 Live - it will just show up as "ERROR". 2) Use EaseUS Partition Master (or another 3rd party disk management software) to format the card as FAT32 (Windows can only format high-capacity SD cards as exFAT for some reason). Thank you to several commenters from the Sweetwater reviews for pointing this out, and thank you Drew for always making such great instructional videos, without which I would be completely lost.

Thank you for this great tutorial, I've been looking for a X-Live SD card virtual sound check tutorial for a while, but haven't found one that was so clear. This is super helpful. Will be giving this a spin soon.
Thank you! I have a card on the way and feel I know what I need to get it going quickly, as time is always the issue. Great series of videos, very helpful and straight to the point.
Hey Drew! I'd love to see a vid (vids?) going further into scenes, cues, snippets etc. WHen to use which, and using MIDI to plug them into a performance that uses a midi track!
Hi Drew. Can you tell me why my playback with the xlive card is louder than the actual performance in the room? The significant difference in volume prevents me from making good mixing decisions using this method of virtual sound check. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Drew. Thanks for the video as I am still not having success. On this video at the 3:01 mark you have two Connected Devices and I do not have any in those boxes. I am guessing this is where my challenge is. How do I get those to show? It looks as if I am able to record, as I see there is a signal in playback but nothing comes through the board..
Thanks for such great videos! Why is my Midas M32 Live creating a single wav file in my SD card? Im routing my inputs correctly and still creates a single file instead of multitrack😔
@@rufuscrowder1309 Everything there in that single file - you have to import that wav file into a DAW and separate into mono tracks and they will divide up into multitracks
I ordered the x-live card at the same time I ordered my x32 three years ago. Had big plans for it lol. Truth is, there's never enough time to use it. I do mostly one offs where I'm also setting up a pa. I saved shows for the Fab Four and acts that use the same setup every time and found that incredibly useful. But the virtual soundcheck isn't usually an option for me due to time and noise restrictions. Too bad lol. It looks SO good on paper!
Virtual sound check only really works in large venues when everything is mainly heard through the PA. In smaller venues, you lose the live sound coming from the stage from drums, guitar amps, etc. Still a great feature though.
Hi, if I already have a mix in my card, using my m32 live card, can I playback my sesión and, at the same time, record using Logic Pro in multitrack mode? Thanks for all your videos
Hi Drew....can you tell me why my playback from SD CARD is skipping from part to part. I formatted the card and fixed all settings correctly. It's sounds great , just choppy every 10secs or so
I have set up the x live and all of our real instruments sound great when played back but for some odd reason all of my multitracks play back distorted. I brought levels to the lowest point on the play audio and turned all gains down and it still distorts at a low level. I know the x live records ahead of the preamp, so I do not understand what could be happening. Help....?
I'd love a video explaining how to get this audio as multi tracks into pro tools. I know it's easy on reaper but I'm pro tools certified and I couldn't figure out.... 😐
Hey Drew. I use an M32. Is there any benefit to using the Klark Teknik DN32-LIVE in the M32 over the Behringer X-Live card? I'm pretty sure the latter works with the M32 and the PreAmp are what makes the difference, not the record chip (as far as I'm aware). DN32-Live is only $90 more but if no diff, I'll save my $$ Your thoughts Please Thanks for your great videos too ... been following you for quite some time and can't thank you enough! Best regards
Hi Drew... Please I noticed that the xlive card when being playback, is louder than the generic inputs More like 3-6 bd is added to almost everything 😢 Please Any explanation for this?
Hey Drew! Really appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos. I’m at a church not far from where you’re currently serving. After watching your most recent videos on virtual sound check and logic I think I just have one question. We are mixing in logic for our broadcast mix and sending it back through X32 to an Aux send and back out XLR into an audio interface that connects to our video stream computer. You mentioned this card could record using the USB and SD card function simultaneously. With how we’re running things, does that sound like we would be able to still mix and record multi track at the same time?
Hi Drew. I recently downloaded some multitrack recordings from telefunken-elektroakustik to practice on my m32r live console; in wav format 41-24. My console is set to 41 too. I copied the files to my class 10 sd card but m32r live does not display the files. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Maybe I'm not setting the card correctly? The routing in REC and PLAY is as you explain in the video. What am I missing?
Our church has a X32 for Livestream & M32 for FOH, and one X-Live card. If we record on the X32 then pull the card and install it in the M32, will the X32 recording work for a virtual sound check or no? The two mixers are basically the same built in software. Thanks for all your videos! God Bless
My group plays with backing tracks coming from the USB plugged into the X32. We can record all our instruments on the XLive but not the backing tracks. Anyway to do that?
Hello thanks for the video. I’m struggling to find a virtual Soundcheck playback solution for my specific scenario. I’m using the Wing, sending 48 i/o to Logic through WDante. Up until there it’s good, I can monitor the recorded audio through the headphone jack or internal speaker in the Mac mini. But Now I’m struggling trying to send the raw audio back to wing via Dante, to everything individual channel it was recorded from, so that I can run virtual sound checks. If possible can you or anyone in the comments help clarify this, or lead me to another good video? Thank you.
Is it possible to remix a DAW channel? I would like to run e.g. the keys of the DAW through my 201 Tapeecho (Return of the Tapeecho is on a channel of the X32 - so I can record it without problems). So play a DAW channel to the X32, ad analog FX withe the Tape Echo on Aux and record it again on the DAW... that would make me very happy 🙂 thank you 🙏🏼
Can I record both the multritrack as well as the mix out LRC to the SD card ? Also, is it possible to be recording both on the SD card at the back AND on the USB stick in the front ?
I had a problem that may be an issue for other users who purchase the X-Live: I have been using the user defined input feature on my X32, so that was the state of my routing configuration when I installed the card. The new card was clearly trying to record when I tested it, BUT either nothing was going in or nothing was coming out: I had no play-back. I started trouble-shooting and found that when I changed to block routing the card functioned normally. I then switched back to my user defined inputs and it worked fine. It appears the X-Live card does not "see" the user defined inputs unless they are chosen with the card already installed. Weird, but if anyone else has this issue that maneuver will get you up and running.
Thanks Drew! When recording 32 channels to the SD card, are you forced to also output all 32 on the USB, or can you still choose from the other options (2, 8, 16…)?
the X-Live card can also handle bigger SD-card than 32 GB. But you can´t format SD cards with more than 32 GB within the card (x32 / m32 mixer) You have to insert larger SD cards into your computer and format them to fat32 if you want to erase recordings on them an reuse the cards with the X-Live card. Please always test the cards before use. That is also useful for 32 GB cards. The card have to be fast enough (Class 10).
Imho the X-Live is the most useful add-on you can get. Loving it and using it all the time. Even 128 or 256GB cards work without a problem - just format them with FAT32 on a pc. I use UserIns on the board and the card setup - that way I only have to configure them on one spot and they‘re always the same. Remember to save a scene with your settings for each input configuration, otherwise you might get a nice chaos playing back some old recordings…

Thanks for this video but my question is different from this video. What is the format type (Fat32, XFat or NTFS) your usb should be in before you can use it to record on MxAir 16? Thanks...
Thanks for your question, Shedrach. The MR16 uses a USB cable to connect to your computer for recording to a DAW, so there is no need to format a usb for recording. If you are referring to the USB ports on the other models of the X-Air I know that Behringer recommends FAT32 the usb thumb drives.
