Kerry I had a stroke almost , maybe two years ago while I was at work , my speach ok but I noticed my left arm went limp and I tried to get the feeling back I got it back. Then a week later on my way home I was singing along with familiar songs on the radio and noticed I was slurring my words and my left arm went limp again! So I stayed calm because I another few minutes to get home here in LA. I woke my my wife up and told her what was going on and she knew my speech was not right and gotten me to hospital my wife was really scared how ever I wasnt! I knew I hadnt been living right but I also knew as well to start praying and asking God too forgive me! Come too find out I had clogged arteries on both sides of my throat ! I am a guitar player as well but you are absolutely right the music does not matter! What matters is where your heart and soul is at! I just want you to know you where one of those guys that hand an influence on my guitar playing and song writing! Always and forever! God bless you my friend and distant brother!
Glad to hear Kerry recovered. What a blessing his music has been over the years. I met the guy who helped Kerry find Christ when they toured together - his band opened for Kansas and Jeff was witnessing to Kansas backstage & Kerry especially. When we live out our Faith in Jesus look what miracles & adventures happen ! That was Louusiana based Jeff Polard btw.
This is such an amazing testimony. Well done God's good and faithful servant was the first thing to come to me as I watched this. The Lord will bless you and keep you Kerry Livgren. I pray that you would know that your work as a musician will stand on its own for years to come and that God has far greater things planned for you.
God Bless you Mr Livgren. Another fine example of how the Lord will never leave nor forsake! As a teen of course I enjoyed your musical talent. I am so glad that you are still among us.
This great man has been in my life forever. I am a musician today because of him... I owe him a ton.. All Respect My friend . ..... I pray for you everyday. Dave . Dave .
WOW! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! It's SO AMAZING to finally see Kerry back on his feet and talking again! What an incredible, inspirational, and irreplaceable guy! 5 stars! ♫ ToM ♫
I've loved Kerry's music for years, and I always wanted (as a keyboardist) to have a similarly successful career and ministry. Now I have something else in common with him, thanks to the two strokes I had in June 2011 and February 2012 respectively. I walk with a cane, with great difficulty. No matter how talented one might be, health problems plague us all, and probably will until we meet Jesus in glory. I do not know how much longer I have on this earth, but I hope to jam one day with Kerry.
As a long time Kansas fan and an even bigger Kerry fan, it is great to see him up and about as he continues to recover from the stroke. May God finish the healing that He has begun.
Glad you are being healed Kerry, I've always loved your songs and your "guitaristry"... your music has been a real inspiration so many times in my life. I'm praying for that hand.
Did not know this was on You Tube!...Thanks, TheFront1984. Love the "shed/studio" remark! HA! What an example of how Christ can put thankfulness is a heart that could easily be defeated through an experience like this. Wow to his music...and double Wow to his testimony! God bless Kerry , Vicci and family!
Wow, over 3 years ago, and I didn't realize Kerry had had a stroke. My sincere best wishes to him. He is a man of strong faith and that will see him through. Thanks for posting...
I met his daughter at The American Red Cross Kansas Capital Area Chapter in 1996 and had the pleasure of telling her how much I love The Wall. Which Kerry wrote. I was in Topeka for 11 years from my home in Miami. I was a patient at Menningers . I know because of people like Kerry that Jesus is all I need. Psychistry is bad . Causes chronicity of distress . Sparks of the Tempest tells about all that. The Wall is to me about when I marry Michael at 59. After years of struggle with so called mental illness which was really only misunderstood scary metaphor I now am breaking through the Travesty of the mental health psychiatry and police fascist system and helping others do the same. I even worked at creepy Tooeka State Hospital in like 96 or 97. As creepy then as it was in 1897. I'm free at last. I tore down that wall Mr. Livgren and your song helped . God bless you and thanks. I also love Coloring Song you may have written that too.
Thanks so much for posting this! I really appreciate the update. I've long admired Kerry's phenomenal talent and was devastated to learn of his trial. But with God's awesome power may Kerry fully recover! :)
Kerry has such a positive outlook on life that it's practically contagious! It really shouldn't come as a surprise since It's been reflected in his art since day 1. I hope the rest of his life is full of joyous positivity!
Brother Kerry, I was searhing the I-net to find your Seeds of Change CD and learned of your stroke. That was not good news, but I am happy that you are recovering well and am in agreement with The Word of God and Jesus's promises for healing to manifest in your body. You and the music and talents the Lord has given to you have blessed me so much since my youth. I was so elated when you became a Christian and brother in Christ. I almost met you at an AD concert in a school in IL. We shall meet!:)
Great clip displaying amazing acceptance and character on the part of Kerry Livgren. He looks quite well following a pretty severe left brain stroke. God bless him.
I'm not an overly religious person, but I belive in God and the power of prayer....God really came through for Kerry, if it wasnt for Him, Kerry wouldnt be around today let alone still making music.
What a powerful and amazing testimony! As always, Kerry continues to lead by example; specifically, 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19 comes to mind: "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." I pray that God will richly bless Kerry, his wife, and their family for their faithfulness.
God, this is one of your exceptional souls !!!! Your will be done, of course, but we ask that you find a beautiful reason to find whatever this soldier of yours needs or wants.
Kerry knows and accepts that it is all part of His plan. I know how he feels. I lost the ability to play guitar because of a hand injury. My life changed after that accident. I am so very grateful for what I Do have now that I can't believe I took all the other things in my life for granted. For all you naysayers out there that say religion is sad; you have yet to experience His overwhelming power to transform your life. Peace and love...
I know a herbal products that can help stroke patients. it's from Canada and already been in the market for 28 yrs. lots of people already benefited on this product. God bless
Wow!!! Now I know why 'Dust In The Wind always spaoke to me so strongly my whole life....though it was the sentiements of a lost soul it always seemed to be the sentiments of someone that God was getting through to and pricking the heart of. And that is why I always thought that in another place and time, I might havr wrote the song myself. I could so relate to it.Guess kerry was is one of God's elect and therefore always was. This was something to see and the other video testimonies of his also.
Why do people have to be so mean? Honestly! Kerry you have been an inspiration to me my whole life! Love your music and I am so thrilled that you are ok and my brother! You say there is no God, how do you know? What if your wrong?
It's great to see Kerry back, recovering from his stroke, but like Natalia I'm also a bit concerned about him thanking god for taking his ability to play. I know how spiritual he is and that he always accepts what he thinks to be meant to happen, but that such an amazing musician really thanks god for it seems kinda weird to me... However, great to see him back :-) Michael.
Sounds like the book of Job. This man suffers an incredible loss, as many have, but what does he do about it? The mockers would answer with Job 2:9. This man, however, praises an unseen GOD despite his horrible trial. His incredible musical gift was on hold indefinitely, but a greater gift remained - faith. And genuine faith is always tested by fire to see if it is true. For mockers, if your god doesn't serve you, he isn't worth serving. For Christians, if your god serves you rather than you serve Him, then He isn't GOD. Google lyrics to "Gotta Serve Somebody" by Bob Dylan. Kerry Livgren answered this issue for himself. How about you, who are you serving? Read the book of Job. Kerry is playing again, but his faith is speaking louder than his music for some of us.
I've never believed in Kerry's various religious obsessions over the years (whether it's the deified Jesus of Nazareth or Hinduism) but we are all human beings first, and I wish him well.
@temdatli That's really a good point. Either Jesus was a liar, lord or lunatic. Historically his existence is irrefutable unless you want to be intellectually dishonest. If you don't then you owe it to yourself to find out if the bible is true and what Jesus said and meant. If the bible is true then you would be be delusional in thinking that the promises of life eternal or hell eternal didn't include yourself. If you can't even describe the message of the bible then you are fooling your self.
I have to admit, even as one who identifies with Kerry -we both have the same first name, same spelling :-) and as one who follows Jesus (more like stumbles in my case! Grace most aptly describes my "religion" now- that your point here is hard to argue with. I really struggle with the same honest questions. Is God selectively good to some and mean to others? Or is God, just as life, unfair? There are no simple answers to these questions. Please Christians, don't patronize us with pat answers!
Hmmm.... I don't know what to say about this. I'm neither completely happy or sad. Of course it's great that Kerry's OK after all, but I'm still concerned about other things too. I also find it very weird of him to have as much faith in God as to thank him for "giving" him the stroke, and how this faith replaced his desire to play music again - something that he can't do anymore.
Kerry is the first Christian rocker... when he does go to heaven it'll be because God needed some better music up there.. Leftoverture is the best album ever recorded..
I find it hard to believe there are so many people with such an inability to understand such simple symbolism, analogies and metaphors. We are living in such a lost and ignorant age. So enslaved to their flesh that things of the spirit are totally foreign and incomprehensible to them.
We all love Kerry... Unfortunate that he's labouring under the illusion that the God of music and that seeks true worshippers, did this to him! I thought this type of erroneous thinking had all but vanished in the light of God's amazing goodness. Thank God for life, strength, humility, mercy and continuing opportunity to serve him daily, but please don't accuse Him of these types of insidious acts.
+Ben Theredonethat Correction. What he said was, "The fact that the Lord restored my life is enough, and I praise him for that. He is good!" My grandmother suffered from several strokes, and even when she could no longer get out of bed, she thanked God for everything he did for her. The atheists most embarrassing moment: Being thankful and not having anyone to thank.
Who is more foolish, the one that is open to a true relationship with God or one who spends his few hours on Earth arguing and denigrating those who believe in someOne he doesn't understand, doesn't think exists, and will not truly seek any answers from.
I'm not trying to stir up hate, but I'm pretty sure everyone praying to Jesus had nothing to do with his recovery. Some people survive and some don't, simple as that. Love his music and guitar playing!
I sorry to tell you brother Kerry ,but GOD DIDN'T cause you to have a stroke .Satan came to kill ,still and destroy ,but Jesus came to give us LIFE and LIFE more abundantly
What are you talking about. You act like the 1970's was so long ago. You must be a wee tike of lad. There were plenty of laws then protecting songwriters. Also there were plenty of lawyers that would've loved to get some of that money. If any of this was true the slime that they are would've been all over it.
This is what happens when you let religion run your entire life. Delusional fantasies of some Grandfather-in-the-Sky who controls everything and when he does something horrible, his naive followers never blame HIM. They always have an excuse or say that it's so good that he didn't make it worse. Kansas' songs always had religious overtones - I never thought about it until I read of Kerry leaving the group - but were the musical masterpieces of their day. While I wish Kerry the very best and thank him for all the great music, I hope some day he will realize that there is nobody "up there" and that he's on his own, just like the rest of us.
+James Keyes This is truely rude, here what youve said-----but thats why you are blind(spiritualy) you keep using the word "religion"--Jesus never said He was the way-truth and the religion---you are what happens when someone lets bondage run theyre life---Please,if you dont know Christ,be quiet Especialy when you dont know what you are talking about-----I know where you live(spiritualy) I used to live there. 1 last thing---You prob. dont want to read "The case for Christ" its author,Lee Stroeble----used to be an atheist.......................
looking at this,he was extremely fortunate, damage yes,but not the devastating,crippling,hideous,24 hr care, paralyzed, removal from life while alive type of stroke. So "God " lets this happen in the first place & then next heals him, what about the majority of those who have stroked & are eating out of a tube, confined to a bed & covered in bed sores & don't have the money or proper care required & are purely suffering for years, save the God crap ! what a bunch of freaks.

James Keyes, I remember when I thought that *I* knew everything. You don't have a clue, friend.
WELL SAID - Religion is a SAD JOKE ....
***** Well said.
Wanna Know Thanks,be blessed
looking at this,he was extremely fortunate, damage yes,but not the devastating,crippling,hideous,24 hr care, paralyzed, removal from life while alive type of stroke. So "God " lets this happen in the first place & then next heals him, what about the majority of those who have stroked & are eating out of a tube, confined to a bed & covered in bed sores & don't have the money or proper care required & are purely suffering for years, save the God crap ! what a bunch of freaks.
Wow!!! Now I know why 'Dust In The Wind always spaoke to me so strongly my whole life...though it was the sentiements of a lost soul it always seemed to be the sentiments of someone that God was getting through to and pricking the heart of. And that is why I always thought that in another place and time, I might havr wrote the song myself. I could so relate to it.Guess kerry was is one of God's elect and therefore always was. This was something to see and the other video testimonies of his also.
