I always use to watch you as a kid heir, mainly when I got introduced to total war games, shogun 2 hooked me in and Iv played them ever since, I don’t know if you’ll see this but you vid got recommended to me and it’s really good to hear you are still posting and above all alive and well, I hope many blessings come to you brother, thanks for all the content and effort you’ve put in for years, you really don’t know how much you mean to the total war community!!
hey ! nice to hear you ! would have love empire/napoleon rework. hard to undestand pharaoh choice. I don't have much time now to play/watch youtube and I just hope CA will shine again with a big great historical title in the next years !
O/ Hier! I am sure you're busy with work, family, and other interests and I sincerely hope you are well! That being said, just thought I'd drop in to let you know that you're missed around these parts and I look forward to you making a comeback soon! (or whenever you feel ready).
All I can say is that I am glad that you are back. I retire in less than two weeks and I was starting to wonder whether I would have to find someone else to watch on UA-cam. Seriously I look forward to your perspective on Total War games.
It's good to see you back. Don't worry about being gone for a bit. Computer trouble happens and spending time with your family is essential. Your mocking of the auto-resolve during the battle that starts at 36:18 was quite funny. I look forward to the next episode. 🙂
You're back!! Wooo! Hope you had a great time with the fam! Glad to have you back, heir! In response to your intro discussion, I would be over the moon if they remade/expanded the Napoleon or Empire titles! And what would make me even happier if they fixed the various problems with Rome 2, just because I am partial to that time period. Those are my thoughts
100% Agreed still play those quite frequently (modded and vanilla). Fixing fatal campaign crashes for Empire and just updating the controls and reactiveness for both Empire and Napoleon should be simple and super welcome. Rome 2 is a little tougher a lot of what people complain about today is stuff buried deep in the games engine, but stuff like removing shield/hoplite wall bug (and maybe letting units charge in those formation), fixing the missile unit shuffle, and probably nerfing camels ability to impact damage the world into oblivion would be welcome changes but I don see it happening.
I think your sentiment is shared by many. Like you, my journey started with Rome 1 and while I feel the decade following that was amazing. Recent focus on wh has maybe taken the historical inspiration away from CA. I think CA believes they always need to explore a new era. When returning to an already done era but revamped or with more modern mechanics would greatly revitalise the community especially those from the historical legion.
What you were gone Heir? I joke... Retold has been very fun. What little I played so far at least very good blend of an update to the game and the old rts nostalgia. Also hope you and your boys had fun. I myself haven't been playing TW much even with a lull at work because been taking my own dad fishing a lot. Enjoy that father son(s) time! Edit: Sorry I told a lie, as @hdpotatogameplay9226 I played couples hours of a modded dark land orc campaign.
@@hdpotatogameplay9226 yeah once like a day ago at night when I couldn't sleep you stalker (doing a Greenskins campaign) haven't been on subs in a while. Been doing stuff around the house or catching walleye.
I'd say Dynasties actually *did* move the ball forward! The added campaign complexity and new succession mechanics are probably the closest to an actual empire manager the series has come yet. Those elements have been very well received, so I'd be very surprised if CA doesn't use them in future games that feature succession heavily (... is that Medieval III I hear in the distance?)
The reason why people aren't happy with the $6 old portraits is that it really should have been free but they sold it to capitalize on peoples nostalgia. You're essentially buying jpeg images. Glad your back btw even though I didn't notice until this video.
Honestly, this is the first time I've heard of the DLC, but man, does it leave a bad taste in my mouth. on the surface it's not a big thing, but it's reminding me of all the bad, customer-unfriendly business practices that the industry has internalised over the years
CA will be in trouble again depending on what the next game is. If it'd a three kingdoms game, I think the fan base will be pissed. I keep hoping for a medieval 2 remaster, but nope. They went with Empire.
An Empire 2 game would move the ball forward. Especially if they made a great naval combat system (on top of all the other improvements that need to be made)
I feel like this is the first time heir has been openly critical of what total war's management have been doing. I actually found the dynasties update of pharoh total war quite fun. I'm just bothered about why he put a lot of effort into avoiding critisizing them when pharoh just released and only did that now many many months after when they've made an update that has made pharoh a tolerable game to play.
CA just needs to learn more about their customers. Find out what we want, what we’ve historically spent money on. That should the focus. This seems more like a marketing problem that could be fixed.
According to Steam data, Rome Remastered sold 2x better than Pharaoh (at least). And they canned it right away lol. CA should support their older games more.. Medieval 2 Remastered please
I'm afraid that Total War doesn't have the resources to make the next historical titles. I'm guessing that by focusing on the warhammer titles they poured alot of time and money into creating the assets required for those games and since then the historical titles inherited the same assets with reskins to be made on the cheap. In short, i don't think they have the cashflow and manpower required to excel in both fantasy and historical genres, and since fantasy is generating more revenue they are likely to continue down that path. I expect to receive historical stinkers until they run out of fantasy ideas and reinvest into historical titles.
second conspiracy theory: i think this is why they havent done fan favorites in a while on the historical side, because they are keeping those titles in their pocket for when they are ready to shift focus to historical. I'm hoping this happens when warhammer 3 runs out of steam.
They need to remaster empire/napoleon or medieval if they are too lazy to make sequels like age of mythology. To be honest though, the managerial class that runs most if not all industries now are incapable of innovation. Hence why indie developers are mostly the ones making great games these days. And like those indies, the majority of game development was done by relatively small, passionate people in the early 2000s and before. Now it’s just a glut of incompetence sprinkled in with passionate people who can do little in the masses of the inept
I wish they’d make a historical game that was actually polished… More or less what you’re describing, actually. At the same time I’ve come to enjoy the terrible AI you play against, cheese and all, simply because I’ve become terrible at the games. But a new Empire? Medieval 3? Purely a historical setting with some throwbacks to earlier games? Yes please…!
Sorry I was missing the Discord link. It is in the description now!
Miss you Heir. Hope you are good!
