Great question! The Percheron horse mainly comes in black. But mutations in the color gene allow for graying from black to white over time, dapple gray (gray background with beautiful white “stars” aka… dapples). Other colors are flea bitten gray (lightest gray aka, white, background with black ticking through the coat), bay (brown body, black legs, mane and tail.), Sorrel (which makes it confused with the Suffolk Punch at times), and Roan (a black base with lighter tops of the hairs in reds or gray giving the coat a salt and pepper type of effect) There are even some fanciers breeding for “blue” (a deep silver gray).
