1950s Nick Cage let me say this, I think that the networking, opportunities and probably teachings as well provided at some select colleges are what is needed to get ahead in some forms of art. John Legend, Alicia Keys and even the group Marian Hill all went to Yale,University of Pennsylvania,Columbia, and NYU. These are mostly Ivy League colleges and these are some big names today in music. Another example, Damien Chazelle also went to Yale, he's the film director for La La Land and Whiplash. Martin Scorcese went to NYU as well, and George R.R Martin went to Northwestern University. Northwestern is another very highly ranked university. J RR Tolkien went to Oxford,Edgar Allen Poe to UVA, and Stephenie Meyer went to BYU.Most Pixar and Cartoon Network animators and storyboard people went to Cal Arts or RCAD.etc. James Franco has gone to Columbia and Yale, Matt Damon and Natalie Portman to Harvard. These people cover animation, acting, film, music and literature. All these colleges are top tier, don't entirely rule out college if you're pursuing a career in the arts. Just keep your options in mind, guys.
BALLISTIX sylphia tbh she doesnt sound smart she said the FAFSA was for a schools bragging rights when its actually used to save thousands. look, you dont need to go to college to have a good job but consider what career you want to have and if you need to go to college or not. just because its a slip of paper does not mean its bad.
BALLISTIX sylphia nope nope nope please pay no attention to this girl. Her attitude and that train of thought is not how the world opperates. If u wanna go to college please study and practice time management and if u need to go to community college first itll save u money
College is becoming less and less important in America, really. Outside of the country, it's usually different. And if you want to move to another country, some require a 4-year degree to apply for permanent visa such as Japan. This is usually negated if you married or get sponsored for a visa ._. *tries to build connections in Japan*
I was in 4th grade and it was the first time going to "Library Class" (study hall) and I had no idea about 9/11. So the teacher (we'll call her ms.woah) was telling us about 9/11 ON 9/11, 2015. Ms. Woah asked us if we knew about 9/11, and none of us knew. She then told us that we were stupid, and that we were all going to grow up working at a McDonalds. Only because we were fresh 4th Graders that had no idea what 9/11 was. A few months later, I made joke, and I think it was something like, "When I get older I wanna work at McDonalds because I want free Chicken Nuggets." (obviously a joke) And Ms. Woah overheard, and she pulled me out into the hall and lectured me why that is the most stupid thing that anyone could do. Let me tell you, the rest of the time i was at that school was not fun with her class.
as someone who's trying to pave their way to a career in art after wasting their teenage years mostly on things that aren't art, i kinda really needed to see this
I get your point but nowadays college is becoming a necessity in today’s economy. It’s estimated that by 2030 2/3 of all jobs will require a degree. Not only that but research shows that college graduates make more money at every point of their career than people with just a high school diploma. It’s a real shame that college is so expensive even though more people need it. Where I live college is free if you have good enough grades and in some cases it would cost at most about 300 dollars per semester
how she got that name was pretty funny, she was doing what she usually does and then when she left I called her "roach" ... BRUH YOU'RE COOL AND ALL BUT THAT STORY AINT EXCITING ... I was expecting ehr to be blabbering on about it and then when she left a cockroach fell from her clothes and chased after her because she was dirty or something
I'm Stupid Stories By NEWS MOOS Teacher: (My name) what is 6 x 3? Me: Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Teacher: Do You Know The Answer? Me: No? *Whole class starts laughing at me*
I totally get what you're saying, but I think it's really good to go college! I believe that going to college (if you can afford it) is something you should really do. College isn't just about learning- it's a really great experience to make new friends and have a great time before adulthood. It's also like one final push before you become a real adult, and if you set yourself up right, it can really make you more prepared. But if you don't want to go, I support that.
I have heard that college can be very expensive, but hearing that it can be 100k is just.. WOAH. THATS INSANE. I live in sweden, and here education is free, so thinking that i would have had to worry about massive student loans if I had lived elsewhere hadn't struck me.. I have thought about school, jobs, and my future career a lot. I do it daily, and it really makes me anxious. I have no idea what to do :/ all I know is that drawing is my passion. I guess that id like to draw comics, cartoons, or animate movies, but thinking that feels unreal.. im o terrified of what would happen if I just keep going like this, finishing school without really knowing what I want to do and ending up with a shitty job that I dont like and left with regrets.. ugh now im just ranting
it's okay, most high school students don't know what they want to do until choosing university courses, and even then, lots of people change their minds. And it's even more stressful when you're paying thousands of dollars towards something you might not use or need.
I dont know why but it really helps me to know that your'e still in high school, cause your art is amazing and it makes me want to practice more so my art can get better. By the way, I think the same way as you for the 'college' subject. My idea was to practice by watching some art videos and/or learn by myself. So yeah, I just want to say, thank you. Have a great day!
College isn't nessecisary for all careers. You don't always neeed college, and many times the degree won't even get you a job. Unless you know your plan for the future, college would be a waste of money, and the debt you have after makes it somewhat pointless
college is important. Telling people false information that it isn't required is messed up. Every year life is getting harder to live and more expensive and the only way to stay alive is in college. People worry about debt but that doesn't matter because you have invested in yourself by then that will pay off your dept without stress.
It isn't "false information" just because you disagree. You realize her video was entirely opinion based, right? You are trying to tell someone their opinion is wrong because you've decided college is so fucking important. Most people are trapped in debt for a long portion of their lives, and it doesn't even guarantee a job, let alone a career.
Dude, there are College grads in deep debt and making no money. College is not a magic successful person factory and with today's job market many aren't working in their major but in retail. For many it's just a way to get deep in debt and still live with their moms. College is good for some but everyone should not be in it.
Don't talk bad of other people for their choices. They choose to do something you might not want or think that choice is good or not. Besides, sometimes you might not get a job just because you went to collage.
So, I'm trying to understand here.... Are you a teacher at a university or involved in some kind of educational thing? She is stating her opinion, I can see your counter to the argument however there wasn't really one to begin with. Thank you for expressing your opinion, though, now I can see from two points of view. One with intent to express thoughts and emotion, the other with a similar objective but seeking a bit more attention. Moving onto another topic you brought to my attention, you claimed that she is stating "false information", can you please explain to me how the things that she has stated are incorrect? To me they seem like valid facts. Also, you said that the information that she talked about "isn't required" and while you may not see it as that, she is stating true facts and unlike you, some people might value her opinion and use it in fututre occurances. Another thing, even though you invested yourself into collage, you still can't pay off that easy (that I know of) from what I know, after collage you still have to be taken in by an employer (unless you're self-employed). Even if you are employed, you still have to make your way up in the ranks, you can't just start out as a CEO unless you have some serious connections. Not to mention, work can be the main cause of stress in most cases. (One extra thing I do realize that this was commented a year after the original comment.) Now with all that being said, I wanted to point out your first sentence needs to have a capatalized letter at the beginning. Thank you for letting me waste five minutes typing this out, I hope you can understand what I'm saying, now good day/night to you sir/ma'am.
I'm also an artist who only considered going to art school, my first thought was the same as yours where you don't need somebody to tell you how to draw, but I have to disagree with that now that I'm 7 months into school. Art colleges give you connections to the growing art world, helps you build a studio and portfolio, meet similar minded people you can network with, and teach you a multitude of skills you didn't even know about at first. Even if you don't think you will fit in at college, I'd still recommend it.
Its not about who can do it better its about quality. You think construction work shouldn't take so long? Why don't you show the construction workers how its done? Oh you cant? Exactly you can criticize shit without having first hand experience with it. That may sound pissy but come on, Odd1sout, Domics, even fuckin SWOOZIE. He doesn't always do funny slide show animation shit but when he does they look bad and still come out better than this
I went to art school to basically figure myself out, and learn from pros. The paper I got means nothing. It's the experience that I paid for. Worked out well. I learned how to take criticism well, made a lot of friends who got me jobs later, and they made me really push myself to get better. I thought for sure I was going to be an animation student when I went in, but as I got older, I started realizing that I wanted to design and make games. So I do that now.
There are a hecking lot of things wrong with school and this is just a tiny portion but I'm really happy I'm seeing more people like you acknowledging these flaws,, like when teachers say u need to go to college
As someone who went to community college, university, AND an art school- all of it is what you expect but also not what you expect. I suggest people try college! If you like what you’re doing, continue on! It’s great mingling with like minded students. Community college is great for not having to pay a lot and still learning a lot, university is like a giant community (and not just frats and sororities) and art school is amazing because you get so many resources and opportunities to improve yourself and the teachers are so knowledgeable. It’s also amazing when you make a well-receipted piece! I did traditional studio and graphic design classes. I just dislike it when people tell others to do one thing or another, I would like to say if you can, people should try a semester or two. If you don’t like it, of course don’t feel the need to go in debt for it. But even the classes I didn’t care about I learned from. If you love to learn and are not pessimistic, you should try it
In my experience of art school, I have never encountered people who are outright offended by you giving them constructive criticism, mainly because if they are they don't last long if they can't take it. Each quarter is like a pressure cooker that really speeds up your process of improvement with great leaps, even if you are already pretty good. Art schools also have connections to the different jobs you may want to get that won't consider you without a name school backing you.
It's actually kind of risky not going to college, you seem like my mom when she was in high school. Btw she's a cleaning lady living in a town house earning 25k per year. Good Luck
I love your videos! It actually inspired me to make my own video as I really do have a similar mindset. Thanks for being an inspiration and haha, I do agree on your point
I agree with most of this, just finished my first semester in economics. I never had a passion that didn't involve academia, but since yours is art- I think you're making a smart decision. Plus you're young, if you decide to go back to school in your 20's that is a viable option.
once I was in a car with my family, and I randomly say,"I don't wanna go to COLLEG!!!" and my mom just slowly says "....what...?" I quickly said "NOTHING!!!" and shut up.
I think as long as you have planned out your future carefully, you don't need college. It seems as though you are getting a rapidly growing following and you're already working with some big named UA-camrs, though! Good work!
My suggestion take an Art class at Community College, back when I thought I was going to be an animator I took a class and got an awesome professor learned so much from him I ended up retaking the Art II class again.
everyone says that everyone says you have to go to college to not work at McDonald's, but I have literally never heard anyone say anything to that effect to me. ever.
I wish I had more of a choice in whether I had gone to college or not. My parents basically guilted me into going with the whole 'you won't get a good job if you don't go' thing, and I didn't really feel like it was right for me. But I ended up learning a lot more about history in college than I did in high school, so that was a plus. It just felt like I was guilted into it.

Just keep your options in mind, guys.
my dream job is living in my mom's basement & eating all her food ;))

Nerd Jenna Kimmie K?
You sound smarter than me and you don't want to go to college unlike me... I feel ashamed
BALLISTIX sylphia Why?
BALLISTIX sylphia tbh she doesnt sound smart she said the FAFSA was for a schools bragging rights when its actually used to save thousands. look, you dont need to go to college to have a good job but consider what career you want to have and if you need to go to college or not. just because its a slip of paper does not mean its bad.
BALLISTIX sylphia nope nope nope please pay no attention to this girl. Her attitude and that train of thought is not how the world opperates. If u wanna go to college please study and practice time management and if u need to go to community college first itll save u money
Great video .made some good points :P
Yo Invader!
hi ed
Damn you're hitting just the right amount of sarcasm that I like! Nice animating too!

Hey :)
as someone who's trying to pave their way to a career in art after wasting their teenage years mostly on things that aren't art, i kinda really needed to see this
Am I hallucinating or did her friend’s tee say ‘BTS’?

FUN FACT!! Student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt this past year in the US.
Who saw 'the friend ' wearing a BTS shirt at 0:45
I was wondering if I saw that right! Nice username btw
yessss
who tf is "BTS"?

how she got that name was pretty funny, she was doing what she usually does and then when she left I called her "roach" ... BRUH YOU'RE COOL AND ALL BUT THAT STORY AINT EXCITING ... I was expecting ehr to be blabbering on about it and then when she left a cockroach fell from her clothes and chased after her because she was dirty or something

YandereChance oh xD
And it's even more stressful when you're paying thousands of dollars towards something you might not use or need.
no its not actually 100k but its somewhere close to 20k and if its a popular school 30k
Am i early enough to be noticed by an amazing youtuber?
iiJaySwoop Art I think you might be too late 😢
Darn ;-;
She never replies on UA-cam.
You'll have luck getting a reply on Twitter tho.
Jackalope Wrangler she replies on UA-cam
She specifically stated in a video she does not reply on UA-cam, and to go to her Twitter.
Don't spread mis-information thanks.
Yeah that funny story was just . . . hilarious.
..... you'll understand why u need college soon.....
are you talking to Spechie or the viewers ? ? ?
College isn't nessecisary for all careers. You don't always neeed college, and many times the degree won't even get you a job. Unless you know your plan for the future, college would be a waste of money, and the debt you have after makes it somewhat pointless
You cant even spell or use proper punctuation. What do you know about college?
Sinful Rose Dumbass not everyone needs college
The part of the you don't choose where to go is kinda inspirational
college is important.
VisualPlays You are so stupid if you think anyone who doesn't go to college is screwed in life
Don't talk bad of other people for their choices.
(One extra thing I do realize that this was commented a year after the original comment.)
Now with all that being said, I wanted to point out your first sentence needs to have a capatalized letter at the beginning.
Thank you for letting me waste five minutes typing this out, I hope you can understand what I'm saying, now good day/night to you sir/ma'am.
Hearing about student debts shocks me everytime tbh. I'm so happy that where I live college is free
COLEG
I'm also an artist who only considered going to art school, my first thought was the same as yours where you don't need somebody to tell you how to draw, but I have to disagree with that now that I'm 7 months into school. Art colleges give you connections to the growing art world, helps you build a studio and portfolio, meet similar minded people you can network with, and teach you a multitude of skills you didn't even know about at first. Even if you don't think you will fit in at college, I'd still recommend it.
well said, I actually had a similar experience
This is definitely the laziest-made video out of all the other videos I have seen from this genre.
Same
// starfish // to be fair it's just still images
***** It's not if I could do better, it's that you can tell she didn't put effort into this video
He doesn't always do funny slide show animation shit but when he does they look bad and still come out better than this
It's not hard to do better, this can hardly be called an animation.
I've been with you since 600+ subs now you have 100k subs that's absolutely amazing.
College isn't a necessity. HOWEVER. It opens more doors to future paths.
At the end of the day, you have the ultimate say.

You wouldn't know purple if it hit YOU IN THE FACE , TRISHA.

Spechie, congrats on almost getting almost 50K. hope you get 100K also in the future ☆☆☆☆(we already know you can cuz you're awsome)
“you wouldn’t know purple if it hit you in the face, Trisha.”
**GASP**
Thank you UA-cam recommendations. You have lead me to yet another great channel.
Awesome work btw ^^
There are a hecking lot of things wrong with school and this is just a tiny portion but I'm really happy I'm seeing more people like you acknowledging these flaws,, like when teachers say u need to go to college
Omg I LOVE the BTS reference shirt!!!!:)
50k!!!!! Omg you're almost at 300k!!!! WELL DONE
Timmy says i want to be a firefighter. Bobby says I want to go to space. I WANT TO WORK AT MCDONALD'S FOR FREE FOOD says me.
I love spechie's art style
I love your art style!
Wow this is amazing
I know this sounds weird but I’m petrified of animations and this is the first channel I found that I’m not terrified of this
Staff doesn't get yachts. The money pays for professors' salary, class materials, building maintenance, education programs, etc.
If you love to learn and are not pessimistic, you should try it
Someone who is honest I respect that it’s good to see it
Quite possibly the most relate able person in existence.
I wish you'd do more animation speeches, I love them! :D
Just found you but●△● love your personality already, keep up the good work!
My teacher always say, "If you choose to go to college, you have to consider how much debt you want to have"
“You wouldn’t know purple if it hit you in the face,Trisha!!”
Trisha: *le gasp*
It's funny because I want to be a lawyer and/or politician so I will need to learn how to sit in a office quietly.
"You wouldn't know purple if it hit you in the face.
Trisha
*Gasp"'
I LOVE THIS
Congrats on 50k :D
I've been watching you since u had 2K WOW UR GROWINGG!!!
Got an ad for Westminster College when I clicked on this
You're funny, UA-cam.
I just found your channel yesterday and let me say you have a new subscriber.
Good Luck
Shout Villarreal I know grads making less.
I love your videos! It actually inspired me to make my own video as I really do have a similar mindset. Thanks for being an inspiration and haha, I do agree on your point
"you wouldn't know purple if it hit you in the face T R I S HA"
I agree with most of this, just finished my first semester in economics. I never had a passion that didn't involve academia, but since yours is art- I think you're making a smart decision. Plus you're young, if you decide to go back to school in your 20's that is a viable option.
Dude, I love you and your channel
I will go to art therapy, because I like drawing and making feelin better
Your amusing, and I like your illustrations...
once I was in a car with my family, and I randomly say,"I don't wanna go to COLLEG!!!" and my mom just slowly says "....what...?" I quickly said "NOTHING!!!" and shut up.
I think as long as you have planned out your future carefully, you don't need college. It seems as though you are getting a rapidly growing following and you're already working with some big named UA-camrs, though! Good work!
That piece of paper means everything
You wouldn't know purple if it hit you in the face....TRISHA! *Gasp* XD you are the best at those voices
My suggestion take an Art class at Community College, back when I thought I was going to be an animator I took a class and got an awesome professor learned so much from him I ended up retaking the Art II class again.
In Australia, you're actually encouraged to take a gap year and travel, then go to uni
everyone says that everyone says you have to go to college to not work at McDonald's, but I have literally never heard anyone say anything to that effect to me.
I've watched like 5 of ur vids and I already look up to u :)
College is cool and you learn a lot. But the people... Well, delicate topic.
I literally just set an alarm for the livestream cause I'm subscribed to Jaidan and James and now Spechie
Can't wait!
For me I have so many baskets that I have to cut some eggs in half so that each basket can have an egg.
