In defense of Aubrey, I THINK the breadsticks used to be seasoned better cause i recently had a similar WTF moment after not having gone to olive garden for years thinking they used to be WAY better.
I think I remember the wings place SungWon tried being WAY spicier too. Some were too hot personally from what I recall, and I have a pretty high spice tolerance. Now, it barely has any spiciness.
Yes, the breadsticks ABSOLUTELY used to be better and delicious. Now, every great once in a while, if you eat one right you get it (in the restaurant), it will be decent (at best). Most times, even fresh, they're nothing. Hardly any butter or seasoning, often over-baked. And delivery? Forget it.
I was a line cook there for a bit and literally never dined there the entire time, but we would hide a bowl of the little fried stuffed ziti behind the counter and sneak bites when the managers weren’t looking

You're allowed to taste the thing your cooking but it must be a clean spoon, Olive Garden probably isn't tasting before it leaves kitchen either. I would imagine a major corp would be very strict with obvious food health code violations. I eat on the loading dock, because I can smoke at the same time. (I don't work in a corp kitchen tho)
@@Lachy314 It's all stupid food health code stuff. If you get sick you can sue the company. A trick is say that you'll throw it out for them, then put it in plastic wrap and take it home. I bring food home all the time for my chickens, also chill management. We also cook banquets, and at the end of those we call a "code 10" over the radios. Which means take a 10 minute break and eat what ever food comes back from banquet. People from maintenance will come by and get a plate.

in all honesty, Olive Garden used to be actually good back in the day, their quality control went down a metric ton and they are mid at best to really bad at worst today. And in all fairness to the breadsticks, they are good when they are soft and warm.
It's like most everything corporate in the last 10-15 years, the quality of everything has plummeted to rock bottom to cut costs while also charging more. Food really hasn't been an exception to this trend. Pretty much every chain restaurant is considerably worse than they used to be.

Robber Barons via the top shareholders forcing the company to sell the restaurant real estate to themselves and forcing them to rent it back at an exorbitant rates was the major blow, but the more ridiculous one was other investors forcing them to buy only shrimp from their shrimp company and then basically give it away in all you can eat 24/7 shrimp specials. So it's not just line go up.

Also, quality between different locations definitely varies. Really, if you NEED to eat Olive Garden food, you CANNOT get delivery/take-away. It is terrible. It does NOT travel/keep well. If you go to a decent Olive Garden and eat there, it's okay. And the salad is good.
Yeah the Cappelini was my go-to back in the day. It was so good and so simple, I don't know why they ditched it. The salad is the only reason I think about going now.

i find olive garden food is significantly better at the restaurant than delivered in the plastic containers. but with that said yeah olive garden might as well be italian fast food with its quality (and honestly the idea of italian fast food isn't terrible, but not at the absurd prices olive garden has). certainly a lot more muted and bland than actual italian food. but based on your impression of these foods i'm not sure if you'd like real italian food that much anyway, lol.

My husband and I go to OG for the soup and salad lunch special once every few months and I'm not gonna lie, I LOVE the chicken anf gnocchi soup. ❤ I'll down like 3 bowls of that each visit. That said, I bet getting it to go doesnt do it any favors. Definitely much better warm and more or less fresh!
I'm glad you can turn a dire situation like having to eat everything at olive garden into a friend feast. That being said, I like their salad, minestrone and our local OG makes good calamari. YMMV.
I grew up in a Sicilian-American family--I was related to people who knew how to make decent Italian food--and we still got Olive Garden once in a while. I didn't understand why, as nothing on the menu was better than "edible." Even the chicken parm was so meh. Hell, I've made better fettuccine alfredo than Olive Garden, and I don't cook with dairy. "Dogshit spaghetti dishwasher fuck" is the quote of the year.
The food seems to have gotten so much worse at American fast casual and casual chain restaurants. Less flavor, worse taste, cheap fake microwaved look and feel, far less spicy, etc. And the water often tastes like dirty tap water.
Well, it is definitely one of our diseases as a country. In various ways, you can see its victims all over the country. I don't mind some of it on occasion, but it is definitely full on "guilty pleasure" territory. It really is like doing a drug.
Watching so many of these "trying different chain restaurant / etc. foods" videos really makes me realize how much of a pleb palate I have hah, so many things I think are perfectly fine or enjoy
I watched the first 10 minutes. Made some shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta, salad, and garlic bread. Now I'm going to feel bad watching the other 30 minutes of bland food torture.
I travel like 4 days out of the week and every once in a while I'll just go to Olive Garden if I need something fast. I don't go too crazy with my orders and the food is relatively "just okay". But honestly, if they provide a dip with an item, you're probably best utilizing that dip, otherwise that item is probably pretty tasteless lol.
I love the group and banter, but these mass deliveries are...not great. Like you can't prepare all of that at the same time, deliver it, have it sit there for 20 minutes and expect it to be as amazing as it would be an hour ago fresh.
I think to have any sort of good Olive Garden experience you cannot be eating it as take out. The breadsticks warm and fresh are great with the salad. I do think the pastas are bland and overcooked; salmon is ok or that chicken with the capers and lemon. A whole pile of it as leftovers sounds like a nightmare.

Agreed I miss the Chianti braised short ribs and the Braised Beef Bolognese with Pappardelle; now the menu is 50% Pasta Alfredo with a topping.

I didn't understand why, as nothing on the menu was better than "edible." Even the chicken parm was so meh. Hell, I've made better fettuccine alfredo than Olive Garden, and I don't cook with dairy.

Eating everthing from an american chain restaurant seems like you may overdose.
The food seems to have gotten so much worse at American fast casual and casual chain restaurants. Less flavor, worse taste, cheap fake microwaved look and feel, far less spicy, etc. And the water often tastes like dirty tap water.
Well, it is definitely one of our diseases as a country. In various ways, you can see its victims all over the country.
I don't mind some of it on occasion, but it is definitely full on "guilty pleasure" territory. It really is like doing a drug.

Watching so many of these "trying different chain restaurant / etc. foods" videos really makes me realize how much of a pleb palate I have hah, so many things I think are perfectly fine or enjoy
I watched the first 10 minutes. Made some shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta, salad, and garlic bread.
Now I'm going to feel bad watching the other 30 minutes of bland food torture.

I travel like 4 days out of the week and every once in a while I'll just go to Olive Garden if I need something fast. I don't go too crazy with my orders and the food is relatively "just okay". But honestly, if they provide a dip with an item, you're probably best utilizing that dip, otherwise that item is probably pretty tasteless lol.

Food from Olive Garden ages faster than milk sitting next to a radiator. Not surprised by some of the scores because of that.
I love the group and banter, but these mass deliveries are...not great. Like you can't prepare all of that at the same time, deliver it, have it sit there for 20 minutes and expect it to be as amazing as it would be an hour ago fresh.
I think to have any sort of good Olive Garden experience you cannot be eating it as take out. The breadsticks warm and fresh are great with the salad. I do think the pastas are bland and overcooked; salmon is ok or that chicken with the capers and lemon. A whole pile of it as leftovers sounds like a nightmare.
