Did you just show us how the amp sounds through the unfiltered line out that is meant to be used with a cab sim, without a cab sim? Every amp will sound terrible in that situation.
I have the Spirit of Vintage (this video helped me decide on purchasing). Nowhere near the noise of the Spirit of Rock, and more than enough gain for me.
How are you liking it so far? I wanna get one of these Spirits for rock/metal, but I wanna set it mostly on clean/low gain and use a distortion pedal (Boss MT-2) to effectively give me two channels; clean and dirt. Think that's a viable idea with the Vintage?
I've been on the fence about the spirit of amps from hughes and kettner, but I've been looking at them seriously since I got my Stompman. Love that thing, perfect pedal platform. I'm thinking the spirit of vintage is calling my name. As always, your playing was beautiful.
I turned off your review. To much noise. I also don't het why all YT influencers (like you) always use stompboxes or other effects to demonstrate sn amp?!?
I've been playing lately with my friend's Spirit of Rock model at jams with drums etc through 2 X 12" speakers , 4 ohms. I was really impressed to the responsive touch qualities and sound. However, no footswitching option, no effect loops, no output besides the headphone, a very loud hiss noise floor, and cheap plastic construction. What a shame because it did sound good. Looks like Hughes & Kettner learned from their mistakes and user reviews. Soon after they released the same as a floor model with 2 channels , boost and solo options , effect loop ,all footswitchable plus a Redbox DI XLR output. And to compensate for the remaining hiss noise, they added a noise gate knob that does'nt choke your sound too much and instead of a cheap plastic housing, they designed this floor model in a rugged metal housing. "Hughes & Kettner Ampman" model. I'm really impressed with it and happy they added all the features the mini heads were missing.
Dude, I have been eyeballing these bad boys for a while. After hearing it I'm going to grab one for sure. Funny how things that I always avoid in my guitar playing journey always ends up being the best sounds in the end, LOL
Imagine an amp which has seen only a few hours’ use, by someone who casually plays guitar on only a hobbyist’s basis. Who has never taken the amp anywhere, has only used it at home, who has not abused it remotely in any way; I have always used the same 8-ohm guitar cab with it. Now imagine, a solid state amp, which has really seen next to no use at all, suddenly cutting out its sound the next time I powered it up to record tracks with friends, and the panel dims and begins emitting a very loud hum, and hitting the guitar strings has no effect on it. A low, ragged hum which is sufficiently loud to literally pain my head until I power it off. Welcome to the Hughes & Ketter Spirit Of Vintage amp head. …This is where I break out the popcorn, looking forward to reading the hilarious responses from the weirdly bitter trolls who always plague anything music gear-related. 🤣
Would you recommend Spirit of Vintage for 1st amp? Tnx. I'm thinking about buying it with Joyo Bantcab ( Celestion Eight 15 speaker). Tnx for your thoughts. Price of those 2 is around 280$ so. :D
These come in at just under $400.00 Australian and they do sound good for the price. Well they just sound good anyway. I can't afford to spend another $400.00 on what would be my seventh amplifier so I'll have to contend myself with this review. You made that thing sing, Elmo. Right out of the park mate.
Orange MicroDark and Joyo Bantamp series have this part of the market covered with better products and lower prices (preamp tubes and fx loop) .... in these days there is no way you can win a market segment without bringing something better, innovative or simply cheaper
@@MrPolevaulter they have a 2 channel option now on the joys too but the loop did it for me. I picked up a used Zombie and the matching 1 8in cab (meh?) but into my 4 12 cab it’s a beast. Totally worth the 150 USD I paid.
A certain store is blowing out the Spirit of Vintage for 99 quid so it had me interested, but having heard this demo I'm not sure I could live with the background hiss ---although it's nowhere near as bad as the Rock version.
I buy all the equipment I review. I have a day job that helps fund this UA-cam thing. The gear in the background isn't all mine, so no, I'm not a millionaire :D
Mä shoppailin ton Spirit of Metelin mökille.
Took "Yngwie wannabe" to level YngVai MalmSteve 😆👍 Wonder how the "keyboard whino's" are going to type behind their armour of screens. 🤟😂 Is the sag feature any good? Like say, if i wanted to record in my apartment without cranking my tube amps.... 🤔
Mr EytschPi42 suspects that H&K is going to make these in pedal-shape in future. For me that would be better. I love the sound of spirit of vintage but as an amp? No effects loop (I can't play without reverb, sometimes delay), THE NOISE, solid state. It's not that I hate solid state, but for me this kind of amps are toys (in a good meaning), they have to have "sth" - joyo bantamps have tubes, two channels and effects loops, vox mv50 have kind of tubes and sounds of a legend, and these? Maybe I'm biased by having watched Eitsch-sth review, but for me they are pumped pedals.
Man, I must not be getting all of your stuff in my yt feed. I didn't see this. I've been wanting to try one of these. Very interesting. I don't think I'll be buying one. 😂 🤘♥️🤘 Hope all is well sir. ♥️🤘♥️
I keep a Spirit of Vintage in my gig kit in case either my or the other guitarist's amp fails, and I've used it for jazz gigs and practices. It's ~$200 very well spent, it sounds super ok and is loud enough for real world use.

a lot of hissy snakes in that amplifier.
the line out needs to pass through an IR otherwise you're just getting the raw signal, it actually sounds pretty decent over a few mesa boogie IRs
Did you just show us how the amp sounds through the unfiltered line out that is meant to be used with a cab sim, without a cab sim?

I don't remember. Ages since I did this.
Got the spirit of rock. As you mentionned to much ´parasit’ noise. Can’t stand this. If that would not be of that the sounds we can get is good.
That noise is this sound of the spirit

Lots of guitarists use pedals, and they need to know that the amp's preamp isn't going to collapse when hit with an overdrive or something else

Sounded good. Having no effects loop is a downer though. Like you, I can't stand delays in front of gain stages.
Yeah. Bummer.
@@MrPolevaulter no four cable method on this one

Solid
There is no loop to play, where I could plug delay, line out sounds crap today, there is no chance I'll pay.
Hi Elmo, thanks for this review: what's about a comparative test between your favorite budget guitar amps?
Just edited one on the best practice amps today. Not quite the same, but close. I'll probably make one on budget amps as well.
I always enjoy your videos! Thank You Elmo🤟🏻🎸🎶😎👍🏻👍🏻☮️
Thanks man :) Glad you like them!

As a reference to Wayne’s World : Elmo likes to play 🤣🤣🤣
😂
Nothing is $0.00 so technically next to nothing is $0.01. :)
Pay less and get an FX Loop with a Quilter Labs Interblock 45 or an Orange Terror Stamp 20....
Yeah, the loop thing is a bummer.
Dear Elmo...Could you recommend me a good Delay & Reverb pedal, please? Maybe one pedal with both in it? Thanks a lot...!!!
Depends on your budget I guess.

Thank you for all reviews you’ve done!
But what about Marshal guv’nor mk1?
Did you ever tried?
May be we can get your opinion on it!
Please!
Thanks! Sorry, I've never tried it.

Just add 10% to the euro price, and you're in the dollar ballpark.

is it possible to run the Line Out straight to a PA ?
With a cab sim, yeah.
I sent it back and now waiting for the H&K Stompman pedal. Hoping that will work straight to the mixer.
