His poor mother. Seeing her crying and asking for no trouble, no rioting that night, yet no one listened to her. A mothers pain must be agony, people of my generation are so lucky we missed all this. Thanks for the upload of this again, what a treasure trove of a channel. School kids of both sides should be directed to it and encouraged to learn from it. The younger generation of today dont have the same baggage we did and so are less interested in going back to those awful times. I think science is a force for good, and its slowly knocking down divisions between Catholic and Protestants and all religions in every country over time. No child at birth can possibly choose which deity if any is the right one. In the past and still in many countries today, kids are told who they believe in from birth. This leads to continuing division and the idea that 'we' are right the rest are 'wrong'. Peace and Love is all we need!
Sands did not die for a deity or a religion… how can you be so ignorant to what the cause of the conflict you appear to have lived through was actually about
@LuckyRufey Im referring to how its roots started hundreds odd years ago. If the British just invaded Ireland and took over then it's political. But they went there with the belief that the god of the bible was the true god and behind them. The Irish people were Roman Catholics. Catholics were murdered if they practiced their faith,(Religion) or spoke their native language (Political)That's the start of the division. Then over hundreds of years of battles and uprisings, it became more political. Unionists aren't Catholic. Nationalists aren't protestant. Therefore division, that manifested itself into politics. Bobby sands died for a United Ireland and for the Irish people to govern their own country. He died for Irish people to be treated as first class citizens not 2nd class and allowed to speak Irish without persecution. Bobby sands didn't die for a god. His death was for political reasons. BTW Paisley preached that Roman Catholics are going to hell and their leader , the pope, was the anti-christ. He used religion to fearmonger Protestants that Catholics were behind the IRA and the conflict was for god AND Ulster.

Great documentary but the absolute fool around 1:07:10 is full of it there. The idea that volunteers weren't courageous so self sacrifice was a rebranding is nuts. Whatever you think about the provos - handling explosives and expecting an ambush each time out is nerve wracking stuff. Objectively.
