I always thought it was so each member of team urameshi had their own standout color and Kurans got red/pink because his primary weapon was the rose whip. Honestly, the show really doesn’t need a remake. I rewatched it last year, and I enjoyed the hell out of it, and the hand drawn art style adds so much texture and character to the show. They’d probably give it the HxH treatment and make everything smooth and overly bright.
I mean yeah it makes sense. Kuwabara’s hair in the manga is shown to be black as well. Their anime looks are iconic but what Togashi did in the manga honestly does make sense when you think about it. Kurama is supposed to just look like a normal human and while it is a manga/anime….there are no other normal humans with wild hair colors so Kurama realistically would have VERY MUCH stood out having red hair. Manga wise, it’s completely believable that Kurama could pass off as a human since he just looks like a normal japanese pretty boy.
It certainly does help him stand out and they picked a pretty nice color scheme. The reddish hair and green eyes do wonderfully with the roses he uses too.
His red hair actually makes his character design stand out so much more. I mean Kuwabara is ginger so Kurama having red instead of black hair isn't too off base😂
That’s a crazy cool fact, I read the manga a long while back, have it sitting on my shelf, & still never realized this! The side of volume 6 does make his hair look a bit reddish, but that’s the case for lots of characters- as they all have crazy color palettes on the side of the volumes! (i.e. Kuwabara with green hair on the side of volume 4.)
Why not brown? If he was my character, out of the reikai, he'd have brown hair and hazel brown eyes. Though I like the foxy red, pink, green attributes they gave him in the anime. Then again, Kuwabara is a red head looking a lot like an American. I unfortunately have never sat down and watched a lot of this show. I just know some things about it. Like Youko Kurama has white/silver/lilac hair and I love that form.
This man is almost damn 40 still acting like this smh. You know as tired as it got after a while, its easy to see why Will used to always go in on LTG every time he acts up. He NEVER learns, but always wonders why nobody effs with him.
Sir that is a purple uniform. And also his hair isn't actually black, it's black if you have no spirit awareness. So to all the main characters his hair actually is very much red. This was the actual cannon explanation. How did you appear to do research and miss this critical piece?

This was a good decision. It aligns well with his floral motif, and also makes him look even prettier to appeal to the female demographic.
