The difference between Roxie’s imagination of him being a humbly dressed man compared to the reality of him getting measured for a suit whilst abusing the Taylor just tells you almost everything you need to know about the character.
Director Rob Marshall's first choice to play the prison matron was Kathy Bates, but Bates already signed on to play a supporting role in "All About Schmidt". She so desperately wanted the prison matron role too, but too late, could not work around the filming schedule. I think Queen Latifah worked out rather nicely.
I love Kathy Bates, but Queen Latifah in this role was perfection. Especially When You're Good to Mama. That number almost turned me into a lesbian, and I'm a gay man.
@@catrein4687 the character is Russian. The joke is that nobody knows that and everyone thinks she's Hungarian. I don't know if this comment was sarcastic or not, but either way: that's the joke.
When I see Richard Gere in "Chicago," I see such a resemblance to Gene Kelly in face and physique. Makes me sad that Gene Kelly wasn't around for this role or any of Bob Fossey's other musicals. It would have been a blast to have seen him in a Fossey number. Damn!

Billy was FAR from a narcissist. He was just your stereotypical greedy lawyer who only cared about money and nothing else. If what YOU say is true, then 90% of lawyers would be narcissists.
I wish they still made musicals like this. It looks so Broadway with the staging and the dancers.. it’s gorgeous.
I think this film (Chicago) was lightning in a bottle.
Burlesque (2010) might scratch the itch.
Nothing will ever be the same again.
Chicago was the exception, queen. Not the rule. Stop pretending like you were there and know what you are talking about.

Well said. That's brilliant characterization 🙌
And Roxie's, TBH. She can think quickly, but my god she can also be so damn naive if that's what she's imagining this guy to be like.
Not only that, but the fact that he is both this main stage guy but also a "shoe shiner" helping out much more immediately famous people.

i don’t know about Kathy Bates, honestly. i’m glad we got Queen Latifah, i really enjoyed watching her in this role.
Latifah is a goated mama

Richard Gere can sing 😍
And dance! !🎷💣💰💲🔥
Today it would be Ryan gosling.
I was surprised that Richard Gere could sing and dance.
He sure can dance, he shows it greatly in Shall We Dance))
He also plays the cornet. He did his own playing in The Cotton Club.
And he does both really well
He’s very musical, beautiful pianist
It's Richard Here. I'd trust him to drive the bus I'm currently sat on blindfolded

Love this! Kelly was Fosse’s ideal Billy Flynn when he originally intended on making a film musical!
True.

The one, the only Billy Flinn
We want Billy, where is Billy?
B I double L Y, we're all his

I don’t care about expensive things
Cashmere coats, diamond rings
Don’t mean a thing
All I care about is love
That’s what I’m here for
I don’t care for wearin’ silk cravats
Ruby studs, satin spats
Don’t mean a thing
All I care about is love
All he cares about is love
Give me two eyes of blue
Softly saying, "I need you"
Let me see her standin’ there
And honest, mister, I’m a millionaire
I don’t care for any fine attire
Vanderbilt might admire
No, no, not me
All I care about is love
All he cares about is love
It may be sound odd
But all I care about is love
That’s what he’s here for
Honest to god
All I care about is love
Show me long, long raven hair
Flowin’ down, about to there
When I see her runnin’ free
Keep your money, that’s enough for me
I don’t care for drivin’ Packard cars
Or smoking long buck cigars
No, no, not me
All I care about is
Doin’ the guy in who’s pickin on you
Twistin’ the wrist that’s turnin’ the screw
All I care about is love
The song is called "All I Care About"
Thank u for clarifying
Richard Gere ❤️❤️❤️
