When are you going to build a power cat?! Looked at the Leopard 53 but too many horror stories floating around on UA-cam for e to commit to the brand

Michael, at this time we are focused on performance sailing cats. It's what we know and love.

Balance safety record stand. I dont think any balance catamaran out there have been on the rocks or sunk. Now that is Quility

Thank you. 95% of our catamarans depart Cape Town on their own bottoms and commence on a very long Shake Down cruise. Most of them head to Grenada, but we have had others sail non-stop to Gibraltar and now a few that have sailed East toward Asia. I'm very proud of our build teams. We're not perfect yet, nor ever will be, but we sure strive to build the finest boats we can.

Building in South Africa is no guarantee of quality, just look at Robertson & Caine

      What happened @ R&C?

Thank you for sharing your perspective! Building in a place with existing infrastructure and talented people is no guarantee of success, but what truly matters is how we work with those people and the systems we put in place to ensure quality. In our video, we aim to highlight that building in resource-rich locations makes it easier and more reliable for us to address challenges and course-correct when needed, giving consumers confidence in the brand's commitment to excellence.

@@Salsabeans Many quality problems. It's what happens if you don't have boat builders but employ factory or process workers instead and then have inadequate training and oversight together with a focus on cost cutting rather than quality. Many or in fact most production boat builders have these problems. To be clear I have never seen or heard of any issues with Balance at all.

Boat building is not about a country, certainly, but always about the people and leaders who build them. I was simply pointing out that South Africa and Europe have many advantages over other locations due to a long standing marine infrastructure. I have been involved in boat building in Asia and Brazil in the past and the additional challenges were significant over building in South Africa, or Europe. Robertson and Caine are one of the largest production catamaran builders in the world and all of us in Cape Town benefit from their presence. I am sure they contend with quality issues as all builders do from time to time, but I am not familiar with their issues or process for resolution.

One has to look at the volume R&C produces, you will get the odd lemon, from boats, to cars to motorcycles. As much as I hate to admit it, the SA boat building has several challenges, mainly power disruption and labour issues. I deliver leopards and have for 2 decades and have never not made a crossing in 250k miles of sailing them. The Balance boats are really stunning and have some innovative features, they are gaining popularity and I hope they continue to grow and prosper.
