She got a great sense of humor. Both of you were matching it up. I like that she learns from other cooks and mix it up to make it special and different.
It’s so amazing that you speak Vietnamese with no accent! If I didn’t see your face I would have not known you are a foreigner! I would have thought you were born and raised in Hanoi!
You hit it out of the park with this one! The interaction between you and the owner was priceless, not to mention watching the creation of that scrumptious Bánh mì. Happy Trails, thanks...
I bet her daughter is beautiful. Her mother is beautiful and fun. If its mother like daughter her daughter will be stunning, she will have a sense of humour and be able to cook. Perfect woman. Also be a business woman xx
I love the lady’s expressions, lots of character and personality, good to see you back Chris, I was just thinking it’s been awhile since you posted in Vietnam ❤
Something magical happens when Chris speaks in somone's native language. It's like the whole aura of that physical space shifts from being an awkward encounter between strangers to a conversation between two long time friends who don't want to stop talking. I guess that's the power of languages. I would love to see that happen more in India (especially south Indian where I'm from). Watching those vlogs and then this right after, the difference is like night and day.
Hello Chris Lewis, I'm happy to see an American who can speak Vietnamese. I have watched many of your videos and admire your ability to learn foreign languages. Being able to speak fluently and understand Vietnamese culture is very difficult, but you did very well, I really admire that. I would love to contact you to send you a friend request and share my plans. Looking forward to hearing from you
We have lots of Vietnam restaurants in my country, and lots of Vietnamese bread shops here selling banh mi rolls...its a chili jam, we call it in Australia....You make a good ambassador for Vietnam Chris....
Amazing job again, Chris. Your subtitle translations are accurate but only the native speaking Vietnamese, and those that are fluent like yourself pick up on all the intricacies. I love the back-and-forth conversation you’re having with sandwich lady ❤
Hanoi looks so different nowadays and with cars on the street, which you'd rarely see back in the early 1990's. Also not much traffic evident on the roads compared with back then. I recall regularly getting stuck in cyclo and bicycle traffic jams, which were totally gridlocked. It was just before the authorities knocked down the Hoa Lo prison, otherwise known as the Hanoi Hilton. I was able to take a stroll inside the perimeter walls, though most of the actual building was already in the process of being flattened. I also managed to find myself inside the army barracks of Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum, which was a bit surreal. I have so many great memories of Hanoi and it's amazing people. I wonder if Mr. Chi's is still there, which was the best coffee and pastry shop in town, or the tiny student bar overlooking the West Lake, which you had to enter through a luggage shop. I was shooting video back then, too, though sadly the quality of the old Hi8 I was recording on is just so bad, compared with what was available so soon after. That said, the photographs I took during my month and a half there, which were all shot on either 35mm or medium format, were pretty amazing, and I sometimes regret not showing more of them when they were still fresh. Anyway, I've really enjoyed watching your engagement with the locals, so "Cheers from the UK!"
Hi Chris, Love your channel. My hat is off to you for what you do, I travel to Vietnam often, I love it if you would include the business name and address when you critiques their food. That way your viewers help support their businesses .
There is a large Vietnamese community in Minneapolis Minnesota USA. A new Bani mi shop just opened in my neighborhood and it’s good, almost like the ones I had in Vietnam. However, they charge $14. Love your travels,
kinda same with me, live in a not-really-diverse city and they just opened a chain banh mi restaurant, charge $13 for one and the bread is like subway :(
That is probably the best looking Banh Mi I have seen....hopefully it does taste just as good! Now I am craving a Banh Mi. I would love to make a trip to Vietnam next year!!! This video was awesome and agree the interaction with the owner was lively and fun to see.
Great video man, loved the banter with the shop owner. I'll have to travel over from Tay Ho for a visit! Plus I think the girl looking for your Facebook wants more than just to 'learn' 😂
I got a Khmer version of this sandwich in a few places in Cambodia. Really very delicious. At first when I saw them making it I was like "what is this crap" and then when I ate it... Was so good 🎉 I have to go here to this aunties spot and try the Bang mi
i had that pepper sauce in Da nang and wonded y i hadnt seen it anywhere else or seen it again since leaving. now i know y. come to think i did see it in Tuy Hỏe when i had Cơm Tam one morning. Cheers for reason y.
Bánh mì Cô Vân is also tasty, but it appeals more to the younger crowd because the bread is sweet. I will introduce you to many more delicious eateries
I just watched the first video of yours visiting Grandma. Was thinking a way to help...pay her debt. Or help. Is that excepted there? If she didn't know. Just go pay it....Your doing great things😊
We spend some Days in Hanoi early this year. Didnt find any decent Banh Mi like they sell in Da Nang or Hoi An. Unfortunately we didnt know your channel at that time. Were looking forward to visit Vietnam a third time next year. Love that country an the people.
She got a great sense of humor. Both of you were matching it up. I like that she learns from other cooks and mix it up to make it special and different.
