I disagree, because we do know the dynamic, and we still choose to look beyond that… Because people hate Dianne for some reason. (Maybe watch the other video about that?)
@@justjoshua5759if you can hate diane but not the rest of the characters, you 1. missed the point of the show 2. are probably an incel. dianes only downfalls are routed in her anger at the patriarchy and deep dark feminine. if you can hate that but not the very real and true patterns of bad behavior that constantly get people hurt, you're missing the ENTIRE point of the show. so stop pretending you have a good reason when in reality you just want to complain and sound different while also perpetuating exactly what the show dunks on almost every episode lol. "can't believe this country hates women more than it loves guns." "really diane? you can't?"
Leonardo DiCaprio is nearly 50 dating women in their early 20s and the only pushback he gets from that is the occasional gag about 24 being his cutoff point for dating, so no one finding Mr Peanutbutter creepy is pretty realistic. He's also a good case study of toxic positivity, as his inability to acknowledge Diane's negative thoughts and feelings was a large part of why the didn't work out. Also probably why she was attracted to him in the first place.
for every dicaprio dating 30 years younger there is at least 50 30/40 year old single mothers that have been ran through by entire football teams looking for "real man" stop spreading this propaganda bullshit either find something bad he did or shut the fuck up already
@@Clown_the_Clown age gaps are fine except for when there's a clear trend of dating people that are at an age where they're brain hasn't fully developed, not to mention the added power dynamic of being a popular celebrity
I...never thought about how he's roughly the same age as Bojack. It does feel weird thinking of him as mid-50s. He's so stuck in that 20s-30s mindset just like Bojack, but he has no physical aging signs like Bojack has so it's easier to forget about
I never thought Bojack was around 50. I for some reason thought he was maximum 27 in the show. It is blowing my mind that I've been watching a cartoon series about my parent's generation!
It'd be impossible to play an adult sitcom character for a decade in the 90s and then be 27 at the start of the show in 2014. But yes he does act like a 20 year old alot of the time.
It's a very interesting choice that Bojack's foil is a dog -- who are already known for generally aging gracefully and it's Mr Peanutbutter with all of his Mr Peanutbutter-ness.
I feel like PB has a lot going on internally that he doesn’t let on about. Especially with the way he yelled at Diane in the Labrador Peninsula. But I like near the end of the show when he says he learned how to be himself without jumping into a relationship.
Yeah, like, I really think there’s more. He’s been so intentionally sheltered his entire life, it’s no wonder he’s emotionally stunted; his brother didn’t fucking tell him their parents died, or that LABS EVEN DO DIE, for 50 years! And his ignoring things is obviously a coping mechanism to deal with how fucked up the world is and I kinda relate. But he tries to be a good person and I think that’s what matters with him.
Yea I knew the guy got demons when he went on that mini rant to Diane about how the meaning of life is to distract yourself with bullshit till you die. And the fact that he was able to pretend he didn't know Bojack kissing Diane even though he knew the whole time!! He was still his same old self, no sign of outward anger till bojack pushed his buttons!
@@chelliebear4right? Ppl act like hes evil, but the dude was nothing but kind to BJ for 20 years while BJ has insulted him, his career, his lifestyle, etc, and BJ tried to fuck his wife. And PB STILL was nothing but nice to BJ, and at the end was the only person still by BJs side in life consistently.
I love how the show HAD to point out to the viewer in later episodes that he's actually not a "good dog" and he is a complex character with flaws (like never listening to Diane)
@@ryszakowyNot really. Whenever she pointed out that she didn’t like big gestures and wanted privacy he never listened. He was also pretty shitty in his past and future relationships with his other partners
@@ryszakowyMr. Peanut butter was a terrible listener. Diane had her issues, but it didn't change the fact that Mr. Peanut butter was a terrible listener. Stop giving that dog so many bones.
That's because people can be morons. Just like in show and real life people miss the point of Mr peanut butter. And because people don't like using their brains
I never had a ton of trust or respect for Mr. Peanutbutter, probably because I've known people like him, and I'm very aware of the pitfalls that lay beneath their positive, fun-loving demeanor. Mr. Peanutbutter is a path-of-least-resistance guy. He's easy-going and generous--as long as he's basically having a good time and doing what he wants to be doing. But there's a selfishness that underlies it. As soon as doing the right thing or being emotionally considerate requires him to face up to any real, serious unpleasantness, he becomes dismissive, avoidant, and insensitive. He behaves like a good person most of the time because he wants to, because it yields more enjoyment and satisfaction for him than not being a good person...but when that stops being true, he very abruptly can no longer be counted on. He's also difficult to be in a close relationship with because his desire to not be effected by negativity results in him ignoring or being dismissive of other people's criticism and concerns, and on the rare occasion when he _can't_ dismiss, deflect, make light of, or avoid criticism, he becomes hostile, petty, and unkind. I'm not saying he's worse than Bojack. Bojack does a lot more direct irreparable harm, and is much quicker to default to cruelty and destructiveness. If I HAD to pick one of them to trust, it would definitely be Mr. Peantubutter. But I really wouldn't want to have to pick either of them to count on for anything genuinely important.
I've been saying that about that dog for years. And I honestly wouldn't trust that dog either. Mr. Peanut butter is a foil to Bojack for a reason. And it's frustrating that most people can't see that. There's a reason that toxic positivity is a bad thing.
That's what I have been saying. That's the point. Mr. Peapanut butter & Bojack are foils of each other so, it wouldn't be difficult to figure that they are similar at their core What frustrates me is that everyone gives that dog too much of a bone to chew. And it frustrates me that people in actual life, give people who are like Mr. Peanut butter a lot of leeway, and don't recognize a lot of red flags. Some of these people encourage this kind of behavior. And it makes me wonder how much do people have their heads up their ass ?
yeah it took me a while to start to like him just because he reminded me of so many super fake people that would pretend to be your bestie but then if you actually need support? nothing. buuut he's a funny character and not a real person, so eventually i came around mostly.
I genuinely thought for the first half or so of the show that he was gonna turn out to be like a psychopath or something who's been putting on an act to charm people and accumulate power in a very calculated way. The direction his story actually went was really good, but I just always got slimy vibes from him
Agreed! There are many moments where his level of selfishness and pettiness are so appallingly blatant that you just have to wonder if maybe he's more self-aware than he lets on.
@@FoxMoon89Exactly. He is more self-aware then he looks because he actually admitted it. Yet, the audience seems to buy that he's just a poor sweet dumb dog... It's frustrating
some toxic people project themselves onto bojack but I catch myself doing that with pb. Like, yes, if I am funny and personable and charming no one will want to hold me accountable for my inability to meaningfully connect with those who matter most to me!
See I think dating Pickles is what really made me dislike Mr. PeanutButter. It was a really sleazy thing to go for a younger and clearly more vulnerable and immature girl and then break her heart like he did just because he was looking to distract himself emotionally from his bad feelings.
She was 25 so she was hardly a girl. She was basically a female version of him. But cheating on her was terrible. And eventually you realise that he needed to change
@seeleunit2000 she was significantly younger and more inexperienced than him. He is 40. And he used her as a distraction then played with her emotions.
@@lukelyon1781 But she's not a baby. She's 25. Yeah there's a age and experience gap. But to infantize her like she herself isn't a grown woman capable of her own choices is crazy.
@bronxishomenomatterwhereig3149 That honestly couldn't matter less. There's years of experience and maturity differences between people within the same decade of life. There's even more between Pickles & Mr. Peanutbutter. And clearly you can tell despite her age Pickles is very sheltered and immature. It's really predatory for Mr. Peanutbutter to go after her. There's a very clear power dynamic that is especially tipped in his favor-even if he doesn't or refuses to realize it(just like Bojack. Bojack is just more self-aware). Especially since he didn't even really intend to pursue a serious relationship with her.
the only episode that really made me question PB was Let’s Find Out, the fact that he could be so callous to Bojack while putting on his host facade was kinda surreal. hella dope video tho ‼️🤝
I actually thought the EXACT same thing and had the same criticism of Mr PB while commenting on a ShadyDoorags video years ago. Since then, I have rationalized this as Mr PB actually being so detached from reality that he felt that his host schtick was endearing and did not even realize how callous he was coming off, which is completely in-character for someone as blissfully ignorant as he is.
I honestly loved that episode. Felt like it highlighted that PB is a real person and his happiness isn't a facade, it's a choice. Bojack has moments where he embraces happiness and focuses on the now, he just can't sustain. PB obviously has bad things in his life, but we see he handles most of them by taking some time to feel bad and then being excited for the next thing. And to be clear, he WAS nice to BJ, for like 20 years, while BJ crapped on him every chance he got. And BJ basically took PBs lack of aggression and sadness and an indication that PB didn't understand the digs and ridicule. That episode highlights he absolutely did, PB knew BJ was crapping on him to his face for 20 years and he still chose to greet him happily 100% of the time, still chose to invite him closer to his life, still made the choice to be positive towards BJ. Pb has probably shown more consistent happiness kindness towards BJ than literally any other person in BJs life. Ever. More than his parents, more than PC (who helps BJ, but she's not nice to him lolol she calls him fat and stuff all the time), more than his gfs, PB is the nicest person BJ has ever had in his life and he hates him for it.
@@christianandjesse7370... That dog could feel that way because he had ridiculously supernaturally good luck. Not to mention, he always tried to force himself into bojack's life and never respected his boundaries. That dog could be insensitive and thoughtless. He's demonstrated that time and again. His so-called happiness is something that seems like an addiction that he forces on other people and expect them to just be as happy as himself.
for the majority of the show, i couldn't stand mr. pb, something felt kinda off i didn't start to appreciate him until his storyline with pickles.. made him an actual growing person
I feel like Mr. Peanutbutter is definitely more appealing for all the things you mentioned, but I also want to say this. Compared to almost ANYONE else in the cast, PB displays the least negative emotions. And I don't say that to say he isn't experiencing them; arguably PB is up there with the most depressed characters in the cast for most of the show. He just hides it well, and when he does display his emotions openly (and tbh I think his issue is more not being honest with himself/pushing stuff down more than hiding it on purpose) it is in the most subtle and/or friendly way possible. His pain is more easy to handle than the other casts', and it's often hidden away so you don't have to look at it. I think this is especially true when compared to Diane, someone whose sadness and anger is more obviously on display; and in a more uncomfortable or 'unattatractive' way. I've kinda experienced this sort of situation before.. where you being (visibly) more upset, even if you are still maintaining good, assertive communication, will make you look like the problem, the aggressor, the one who is too sensitive or expects too much. I don't think PB is a bad person, ofc. And he absolutely changes a lot, like everyone else does, and for the better I think. He gets a lot more thoughtful; his cellphone convo with Diane towards the end of the show is one of my favorite conversations in the show. I just think you might not see the problems he has to work through (or why his behavior could be hurting others) because of his affect, and his 'good intentions' always being at the forefront (as opposed to someone like Bojack, whose selfish and avoidant intentions are nearly always at the forefront for example). He is, like the rest of the cast, a brilliantly done character, and an excellent example of what maturity really means, especially in relationships, and what it isn't. Particularly on the idea that "I didn't mean to hurt you, I was trying to do X" doesn't matter as much as or excuse the harm actually done.
Maturity ? The man who eventually make us the life mission never to actually deal with negative emotions. He has no ability to really emphasized with another person's pain, especially if it doesn't benefit him and he goes out of his way to insert himself into other people's lives without even considering what they want... And that's supposed to be a sign of maturity ?
I would love it if other animated adult shows took some teaching from what Bo Jack Horseman. Every character in the show are very unique in their personality and struggles. It just a very fascinating show to watch when it comes to many topics like trauma, depression, being a single parent and other issues.
Omgor I luved this video essay so much, I luvd how you wrote it very silly, I luv your voice, I luv how it was about bojack horseman >< such a good job
I've despised Mr. Peanutbutter from the moment he first spoke a WORD. It's been some years since I watched the show so I can't remember everything bad he did, but I just knew the creators knew what they were doing making him a dog. A cute yellow funny dog with an obnoxious, borderline toxic, positive attitude! All his ignorance and selfishness is forgiven and forgotten because he's a dog!
What makes Peanutbutter likable is his surface level Charisma charm and looks. He's someone you can always have a good time with. But when the party is over and you really get to know him? As we saw with his ex's. He's so caught up having a good time. He's oblivious to those who aren't. But unlike BoJack. When he was shown how he is the reason for his relationships failing? He actually did the work to reflect, and do better. And stuck with it.
despite whatever they say about mr peanutbutter, the worst thing he ever done was cheating on pickles and let her get that one back on him by sleeping with other guys, unlike bojack who literally ruined people's lives, mr pb despite his toxic positivity, he's trying to make everything good, he's a good person at heart, but bojack is a rotten person who despite trying to be better, still wrecks other people's lives constantly And ironically at the end, everyone that bojack has considred friends has left him while the one he insults nd berates all the time is the only one who stays on his side So i still can't believe people hate him but love bojack, or when people say mr PB might be as bad as bojack Idc what everyone says, i love you mr peanutbutter
I saw through the niceness right from the start, but that's mainly because I fell foul to a manipulate-with-kindness person like him. It really bothered me how many people turned against Diane over the Belle room at the time, but I guess sometimes it's difficult to understand the position she was in if you've not been in anything like it yourself. He did seem to grow through the series and got more likeable, but I hated him at the beginning.
Tell me about it. Diane was upset because the Bell room was something in her mind for herself and Mr. Peanut butter goes and builds a fake library. With fake books for God sakes. Which cost a ton of money. Had he built an actual library for his wife, then she'd be happy. But nope, he goes, wastes time and money on a fake library, then expects his wife to be happy ? Seriously, it blows my mind.
Yeah, I can sort of understand people thinking that she could have been kinder ("Thanks, but this isn't really what I wanted,") in that instance, but that's because we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg at that point. In the Halloween party flashback episode, we see that he's been a bad listener from the beginning, and at some point "I was trying to be nice" ceases to be a good excuse for not knowing basic things about your partner.
@hughcaldwell1034 Not listening to or understanding your partner is certainly part of it and is a bad thing, but there's something a little bit more subtle and nefarious to that sort of behaviour than just that, and as much as the reaction to the Belle room incident bothered me, it did perfectly demonstrate the issue. There are people that will deliberately do things for you, after you've told them you don't want it, with the entire purpose of putting you in the impossible position of having to either be grateful for that thing you didn't want, or look bad in front of other people, which then turns them against you for being an ungrateful arsehole after that great thing the other person did for you. It's a manipulation tactic that within relationships usually goes hand-in-hand with gaslighting, and it's evil behaviour. Like I said, I've been on the receiving end of it before now, so I could immediately see it for what it was, and I can understand why people who haven't been there might not recognise it, but I think it disappointed me that so many fans of the show didn't see that that's what it was going for.
I dont hate PB, hes not evil, and by hollywood standards hes one of the normal, healthy kinds. I also think people underestimate how he is genuinely the nicest person Bojack has ever had in his life, and that PB has shown more consistent joy and happiness towards seeing Bojack than anybody else ever has in Bojacks life. He goes to therapy with his wife, a lot of dudes woukd reject that but he accepts the responsibility. His first wife was his age, his second wife was around his age, and diane is younger but im pretty sure she was about 25 when they met. The biggest red flag in dating is Pickles, who is inexcusably young and ignorant and he absolutely takes advantage of that. He frequently drops what hes doing to help others, like rushing to the coast with semis of strainers to save the ocean ppl. Ppl hate on him for him and dianes issues, but they both do it, they both fail to listen, fail to respect boundaries and expextations, etc. They were a bad match, realistically. I think a lot of ppl are kinda like bojack in that they want PB to be kind of miserable. They want to see its all a farce and the silver linings thing is all a gimmick that he puts on. But its not. PB knows the world sucks and chooses to smile and enjoy things and celebrate life and i think a lot of ppl like and need that perspective sometimes, because if you never celebrate youll just be diane at best or bojack at worse. Theres no way to perfectly live life and when you look at the characters and their lives, lets be real: most trap themselves in misery every day, and its a choice to keep doing the same thing that made them miserable yesterday. Dianes constant moralizing, Bojacks deflecting, PC, working herself to an early grave. And theyre not trapped by poverty or anything, they choose it everyday Worse thing he really did was shove diane against the wall, which is obviously bad, but not worse than what we see most other charactera do. I think people underestimate how he is genuinely the nicest person Bojack has ever had in his life, and that PB has shown more consistent joy and happiness towards seeing Bojack than anybody else ever has in Bojacks life. In 20 years of insults and ridicule, which PB likely understood 100% of those slings, PB still embraces Bojack kindly every time and expresses genuine interest and pleasure in being around him. And its not desperation to be liked, he does genuinely love Bojack. Todd is the only true innocent, and he made a SAing robot.
Normal ? The dog makes an admission to habitually avoid negative emotions, he refuses to ever stop inserting himself in other people's lives and never really takes their feelings into consideration, he's a terrible listener...ect. Todd is the same as Mr peanut butter, but on a lesser scale. His head is up his butt, and he does one dumb stunt after another, where he should have been locked up long ago, and for a time he was when he used bojack's house for a scheme and got busted, yet he broke out of prison after the riot. He never thinks anything through and the dude is a mooch who never can't stop and think...
I hated Mr. Peanutbutter in the beginning, he felt fake-nice and toxically positive to me. He had to take time to grow on me, and even then, there's moments I remember why I didn't like him to start. But there's legitimately no major character in Bojack Horseman that I actually hate.
I feel like PB is loved for a similar reason Todd is loved: He's sorta stupid. Yeah, I get he has his moments of self-awareness, but her 100x more moments where he says something insenisble or ridiculous as a gag or something. So when he ever does anything awful or is involved in something bad (politics, being in relationships where he's 20+ years older), it's easy to dismiss it because, well, he's dumb, and if he was smarter and knew better, he would also consequently do better, probably. Plus, unlike someone like Diane and Bojack, since he is very noticably dumb and also doesn't come off like he thinks he's smarter than everyone else, he doesn't really challenge the viewer or anyone else in his universe. It's easy to dislike those characters because they can seem judgey, whereas PB has a very open mind in a similar vein Todd does, because they're sorta just not that smart and naive.
That's not an excuse. He's demonstrated plenty of self-awareness. So him being insensitive but dumb is not an excuse to excuse his behavior. You don't give dumb people passes
Just wanted to come in here and say i always hated mr peanut butter.. id warm up to him for a bit, but then he’d do something so stupid (not like the charming naïveté of him) or selfish or manipulative towards Diane and i’d just GAAAHHH. At first i tried to keep an open mind about him cause, idk, maybe me getting a bad impression of PB was just because Bojack didn’t really get along with him, but the more i watched him the worse he got. Plus PB is anti-union, so like, bro’s despicable. Great friend, terrible partner and probably a terrible person
Another note: I think PB might be ADHD-coded and that would affect some of his social behaviours, including what seems to be Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. It doesnt excuse his behavior, but it makes it make more sense
i was so annoyed by him at the beginning o the show for obv reasons and then all of the sudden, without warning, i got excited when showed up. i loved him and FOR WHAT
Hes supposed to be 52 at the end of the series, which would have put him at around 46-47 when he dated diane, who i think was 34. Big age gap relationships are sketch, and i think that his relationship with pickles is kinda gross, but 46 to 34 doesnt seem necessarily unhealthy to me.
Age Gap relationships don't have to be sketchy, yet he himself was an immature jackass. He never listened to, he never took his head from his butt, he was willfully oblivious and could never try to truly change. That's the bigger issue
The more I re-watch the show, the more I'm convinced that Mr. Peanutbutter might have undiagnosed ADHD. He's very social, energetic, is excited about everything new and is extremely passionate about it, yet fails every time to finish his projects. How often does he do random stuff because he thinks that it might be a great idea, but quickly forgets about it? There's such a striking pattern here. While he definitely cares about his friends and partners and wants to do everything to make them feel loved, he fails to get certain cues or completely misunderstands his partners because he can't focus enough on what they actually want to express (like the ball room or the fake library). There's never any malicious intent, he just doesn't know any better. Mr. Peanutbutter not being able to pay enough attention to what people say is a big focus on his plots and cause many conflicts throughout the show. He jumps from one thought to another without looking back because he gets lost in his own thoughts because his mind seems just as chaotic as an M.C. Escher painting. I couldn't find any confirmation, but as someone who's autistic and had some aquaintances with ADHD, he definitely seems like he's neurodivergent. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the writer's intention, since Judah is heavily implied to be on the autism spectrum.
The reality of his forgiving bojack for the kiss is muddied by the fact the show needed a resolution more than he wanted to really forgive bojack at the time. It’s just a really interesting moment because it almost totally makes you believe his whole personality is just cope right from the beginning for a sec lol
i feel as tho pb and todd are both the most “sitcom character”, but pb is generally less complex than todd (because todd has a closer relationship to the main character) since the show is a sitcom largely about sitcoms, these characters need to exist. of course they’re still 3-dimensional but it’s hard to take pb as seriously as the other characters because he so often is written to do things for laughs. he is necessary for the show to work and i do like him
Me and my ex friend were like PB and BJ. Besides some differences in copy mechanisms I'm the type like BJ and she was splitting image of PB. Whenever I wanted to tell her that her fake positivity and stupid ways to fullfil everybody are toxic she always responded "but im doing a good thing, not like you". And the problem is that people like BJ are known for acting certain way, being rude sometimes and not care about the others, but when a person like PB does something wrong, hurt anyone's feelings it's so easy to forgive them, because they're doing it for greater good. I'll be honest, I hate PB for his narcissitic traits wrapped in fake kindness, he annoyed me for the most of the show, only at the end I got the fade glimmer that he's gonna understand that the way he acts actually hurt people around him, not help
All his actions are leaded by pleasing people around him, to avoid fights or bad feelings. I think that he's afraid of people dislike him and everything he does, whether he likes it or not is leaded by that fear. On the other hand I couldn't find the time when it's explained more complexed why he is who he is, I kinda miss it for the whole show
... If you couldn't figure out the point of that dog, then you really have your head buried up your own butt... Seriously, that dog has never been anything but Bojack with a ability to be able to have supernatural good luck and no ability to self reflect
It’s not as much about listening so much as not understanding. It’s a significant difference in the way you fix it. He hears that she wants a Belle room that has books like Beauty and the Beast. He doesn’t understand what Diane valued about that. He could’ve by asking questions and confirming with her. He’s an extrovert. He doesn’t get why anyone would not like a party.
I kind of always thought that everyone (Bojack, Mr. Peanut butter, Diane, Princess Carolyn, Todd) was in their late 20's (max 32). I even thought Mr. Peanut butter was the youngest. Like barely 20. They did have a cupple of skits going back a cupple of decades, but I seriously didn't get it at all! I might have thought that it was litteral skits, like "what if they were in these years" 🤔
@@seeleunit2000 idk what to say man. Age really just is a construct in my brain when it comes to cartoon characters. It probably is like that in live action film as well. Can't say I've found "fellow kids" type of characters to be anything other than what they act like as well. Like... Idk... 21 jump street maybe??? I'm very easily fooled like that.
During the first episodes he gave the vibe that he was kinda fake in his demeanor, but the twist that he was just like that and he genuinely admires Bojack as an actor made him an entertaining himbo. He had his flaws, he was immature, attention seeker and not a good listener when he's excited (which is most of the time), but deep down he means well. Him dating younger women made sense considering his immaturity, also he never went for underage women like Bojack did. His biggest sin was cheating Pickles but tried to make up for it and let her go when she met someone that made her happier. Most of the conflict between PB and Dianne happened because they wanted opposite things in life so they were doomed to fail, but he never had ill feelings towards her when the relationship didn't work out, making him a healthy ex. His development of being in peace outside a relationship was an important step towards being more mature.
Hey PosiTVty great video man Mr Peanut Butter wasn’t so much my cup of tea but he was funny for sure, I see why people like him. And I see why people dislike him too. Anyway can you make a video about the best celebrity cameos in Bojack Horseman. Those are really funny
I liken Mr. Peanut Butter with Leonardo Di Caprio for some reason. From my perception everyone really loved Leonardo for a really long time and it isn’t until recently that people have been raising an eyebrow at his behaviour, specifically the dating of very young girls.
He's kind of like JJ on The Venture Bros. The main character hates him because he's more successful and he seems to do no wrong and feel no pain, but there is a real person in there who can fail and hurt just like everyone else.
Now that's insulting. Seriously, would people stop saying a character on the spectrum when they don't even display any of the signs. It's getting pretty ableist.
As someone on the spectrum, he really doesn't seem to be at all. He just has the characteristics of a dog so his feelings are like that of a dog. Like, that's all that it is. Him having some form of depression or attachment issues would be more believable
I personally always hated Mr. Peanutbutter for his toxic positivity and almost pathological inability to get along and think that everything is simple. After a while I started to like him, but it's annoying to see everything working out for him, supporting this toxic positivity personality.
I don't understand why so many people hate Ms. PeanutButter to be honest, I don't know if it's because for me sometimes it's nice to have a character that helps the show seem more lighthearted when everything is too heavy and depressing or because I really see him with the humanized look that the series gives to the characters, he made a lot of mistakes and was far from being a really good dog, but I think Diane marked his development by helping him evolve as a person without always depending on new relationships (and I think that also has to do with Ms.PenautButter making the series finale sound less lonely )
I see him getting involved with younger women because he's an immature guy to deal with women who would be more serious about life, but I'm glad that changed in the end and he took it off a time to improve as a person (And I will admit that when I started the series I thought Ms. PeanutButter was in his 24s while Bojack was in his 40s/50s, I was hella surprised after seeing that they were the same age)
A little off with the ages, PB is 45 at the start, not mid 50's. Bojack was born Jan 2, 1964 and is 50 at the start of the series (54 in season 5 as stated in Free Churro) Mr. PB is 5 years younger than him, PC is 10 years younger, Diane is 15-16 years younger (turns 35 in season 2), and Todd is around 25 years younger i believe (his age is the most difficult to pin down, the others have reliable references)
Same omg!! Like sometimes he’s funny but a lot of the time he’s annoying and doesn’t listen. He also doesn’t have any original ideas when it comes to shows
@Emoinahoodie he was written as the anti-bojack, which does not equal a likeable person. It equals an unlikable person who _thinks_ they're likeable, which is arguably more enraging than the alternative
@@qiskoy3537 the whole point of his character to me was to go to the audience and say "even if bojack *was* as happy as you think he should be, you still wouldn't like him because he'd still be a self-centered asshole. Only this time, he'd be a happy self-centered asshole rather than a miserable one" And so many managed to miss that.
Mr. Peanutbutter hurts others without meaning too even if he should know better,. Diane hurts people intentionally because it makes her feel moral or justifies her shitty attitude. That's why people hate her but not him.
And that's still an issue. Even if he doesn't mean to hurt people he still does hurt people. And he never suffers a backlash for his idiocy or not for very long. And that's the frustrating part. Most characters suffer for their actions in the show, except for Mr. Peanut butter if you're not counting his failed marriages.
Thing is, BoJack also intentionally hurts people to justify his shitty attitude, and a lot of the same people who excoriate Diane for her behaviour will give BoJack a pass.
Diane and Mr pb are actually only 11 years apart (pb born in 1969 and Diane born 1980), meaning he was 38 and Diane 27 when they first met so I feel like the point abt that being weird isn’t as strong, but the one with pickles is still pretty bad
It's funny because I never knew that people irl actually liked him, I found him very shallow and annoyingly obnoxious save for a couple emotional moments later on. Like it didn't read as positivity to me when he was literally ignoring other people and what was going on around him. Loudness =\= kindness. I've only warmed up to him upon my 2nd or 3rd rewatch of some episodes. And I actually had no idea he was supposed to be the same age as Bojack. I thought he was good 10 years younger at least. Knowing that now actually makes me loose some of the respect I had for the way he handled his relationships. Like it's great he's grown as a character already but there's a lot of bad thing he's done that people just let pass just coz of extraverted he is despite him not being kind or >doing positive things if that makes sense. That being said later in the series he does do a lot of kind things so it's nice seeing him change and become more attentive to his loved one's needs.
Mr Peanutbutter always kinda pissed me off. It could be the fact that I'm a bit of a Diane in that it really bothers me that this absent-minded, privileged, unchanging guy can stumble upwards through life just by being a kind person, when being kind is never usually enough. I don't dislike HIM, but just the idea that he can always just be kind and funny and have that be enough to get him happily through life without really growing or changing for most of the show.
I feel like Mr. Peanutbutter wouldnt be as liked if this show's main character was Diane and not Bojack.
I disagree, because we do know the dynamic, and we still choose to look beyond that…
Because people hate Dianne for some reason. (Maybe watch the other video about that?)

"really diane?

I never thought Bojack was around 50. I for some reason thought he was maximum 27 in the show. It is blowing my mind that I've been watching a cartoon series about my parent's generation!

@@ZaneexistsExactly. I was saying that about that dog for the longest time.
Mr. Peapanut butter & Bojack are foils of each other so, it wouldn't be difficult to figure that they are similar at their core
What frustrates me is that everyone gives that dog too much of a bone to chew.
And it frustrates me that people in actual life, give people who are like Mr. Peanut butter a lot of leeway, and don't recognize a lot of red flags.
Some of these people encourage this kind of behavior. And it makes me wonder how much do people have their heads up their ass ?

See I think dating Pickles is what really made me dislike Mr. PeanutButter. It was a really sleazy thing to go for a younger and clearly more vulnerable and immature girl and then break her heart like he did just because he was looking to distract himself emotionally from his bad feelings.
He learned from that though. And actually did the work to improve and be better.
@bronxishomenomatterwhereig3149
That honestly couldn't matter less.
Ever. More than his parents, more than PC (who helps BJ, but she's not nice to him lolol she calls him fat and stuff all the time), more than his gfs, PB is the nicest person BJ has ever had in his life and he hates him for it.

for the majority of the show, i couldn't stand mr. pb, something felt kinda off
i didn't start to appreciate him until his storyline with pickles.. made him an actual growing person
I like Mr.Peanutbutter cause I see a bit of myself in him and I want to like myself.
He is actually in his late 40s when he starts dating Diane, and 52 at the end of the series.
And stuck with it.
despite whatever they say about mr peanutbutter, the worst thing he ever done was cheating on pickles and let her get that one back on him by sleeping with other guys, unlike bojack who literally ruined people's lives, mr pb despite his toxic positivity, he's trying to make everything good, he's a good person at heart, but bojack is a rotten person who despite trying to be better, still wrecks other people's lives constantly
And ironically at the end, everyone that bojack has considred friends has left him while the one he insults nd berates all the time is the only one who stays on his side
So i still can't believe people hate him but love bojack, or when people say mr PB might be as bad as bojack
Idc what everyone says, i love you mr peanutbutter
@@hughcaldwell1034Exactly
And theyre not trapped by poverty or anything, they choose it everyday
Worse thing he really did was shove diane against the wall, which is obviously bad, but not worse than what we see most other charactera do.
He is toxically positive and he was fake nice.
I remember my boyfriend bot liking his character, but he grows to enjoy his character cuz he is also a complex one.
All of the main characters are complex. I don't dislike any of them. Bojack is my second family ❤.
Just wanted to come in here and say i always hated mr peanut butter.. id warm up to him for a bit, but then he’d do something so stupid (not like the charming naïveté of him) or selfish or manipulative towards Diane and i’d just GAAAHHH.
I didn’t like PB until after I got a dog. I didn’t fully understand what is annoying about him until my bf got a lab.

I actually don't like Mr.PeanutButter 😅 but this video helped me grow on him a bit
MR is the best boy 😂
I like him Frr, he’s a happy lil guy!!
He’s my Bojack crush 🥰
It’s… Birthday Dad.
This video is insanely well made and a fun watch
The reality of his forgiving bojack for the kiss is muddied by the fact the show needed a resolution more than he wanted to really forgive bojack at the time. It’s just a really interesting moment because it almost totally makes you believe his whole personality is just cope right from the beginning for a sec lol
have did you not say "old dog cant learn new tricks" once in this video
i feel as tho pb and todd are both the most “sitcom character”, but pb is generally less complex than todd (because todd has a closer relationship to the main character) since the show is a sitcom largely about sitcoms, these characters need to exist. of course they’re still 3-dimensional but it’s hard to take pb as seriously as the other characters because he so often is written to do things for laughs. he is necessary for the show to work and i do like him
Me and my ex friend were like PB and BJ.
On the other hand I couldn't find the time when it's explained more complexed why he is who he is, I kinda miss it for the whole show
Ohh I hated him, I mean fantastic character, but I always saw through his bullshit, I was always on Bojack's side on this 😂
this made me wanna rewatch bojack horseman
Anyone who hates him is just miserable imo, he’s chill asf
... If you couldn't figure out the point of that dog, then you really have your head buried up your own butt... Seriously, that dog has never been anything but Bojack with a ability to be able to have supernatural good luck and no ability to self reflect
Late fifties? I was sure he was mid forties! Anyways great video, Mr. Peanutbutter is my fav
Puppy!! I love that he's a puppy. I love that he's a dog 🥰🥰🐶 so adorable. I dont know how she can sleep with him though lol. Nice video!!
I might have thought that it was litteral skits, like "what if they were in these years" 🤔
How could you think that ?
In show was demonstrated how old each character was ?
It was kind of obvious what their ages were.
@@seeleunit2000 I'm also still probably seeing the life to be over at 35. My mind is not healthy.
The main character hates him because he's more successful and he seems to do no wrong and feel no pain, but there is a real person in there who can fail and hurt just like everyone else.
the opening made me giggle
he moves on from diane
he keeps moving forward
he doesn't start abusing drugs and alcohol like bojack
obviously he's the better one
Hes better but still not good
@@hithere7080He is good. He doesn't have to be perfect to be good.
@@Nai-qk4vp he is not good, you dont have to be a monster to be a bad person
@@hithere7080he's the goat
You know, ive never seen anyone dislike Todd, I personally can’t stand him honestly. Id love to see a video from ANYONE backing me up
Why do you dislike Todd?
@@vianeydeleon2008 because he’s just generally annoying, his brand of humor isn’t one I enjoy so all the random stuff isn’t fun to watch for me.
@AnonDudeBro I can see that.
Sorry bro Todd is my spirit animal 😂
Todd is my fave 😅
What’s the song in the outro?
Because he is hot
furry moment
🤨
He looks like a dog to me.
ermmm... 🤓☝️ akshually bojack is the stealer of the "d"
Wouldn't surprise me if mr.peanutbutter were on the spectrum
Now that's insulting. Seriously, would people stop saying a character on the spectrum when they don't even display any of the signs.
It's getting pretty ableist.
As someone on the spectrum, he really doesn't seem to be at all. He just has the characteristics of a dog so his feelings are like that of a dog. Like, that's all that it is. Him having some form of depression or attachment issues would be more believable
I thought he was a golden retriever
Mr.Peanutbutter isnt a bad guy, the comments are crazy with projection.
Not me I can't stand this guy lol he's my least fave in Bojack.
Also, it does help to like him because he’s a dog.
hi, i was just wondering what program/app you use to edit your videos? :)
I personally always hated Mr. Peanutbutter for his toxic positivity and almost pathological inability to get along and think that everything is simple. After a while I started to like him, but it's annoying to see everything working out for him, supporting this toxic positivity personality.
mr peanutbutter they could never make me hate you
I don't understand why so many people hate Ms.
Bojack was born Jan 2, 1964 and is 50 at the start of the series (54 in season 5 as stated in Free Churro)
Mr. PB is 5 years younger than him, PC is 10 years younger, Diane is 15-16 years younger (turns 35 in season 2), and Todd is around 25 years younger i believe (his age is the most difficult to pin down, the others have reliable references)
I always really hated him. Like a lot
Oh my god thank you, me too! How can people like him anyway? Hes so annoying and doesn’t take anything seriously ever its not funny its just stupid
Only this time, he'd be a happy self-centered asshole rather than a miserable one"
And so many managed to miss that.
same but thats cuz i was basically diane most of my life
Yes.
Mr. Peanutbutter hurts others without meaning too even if he should know better,. Diane hurts people intentionally because it makes her feel moral or justifies her shitty attitude. That's why people hate her but not him.
finally someone connected the dots
Also shes a woman lol
And that's still an issue. Even if he doesn't mean to hurt people he still does hurt people.
And he never suffers a backlash for his idiocy or not for very long. And that's the frustrating part. Most characters suffer for their actions in the show, except for Mr. Peanut butter if you're not counting his failed marriages.
Thing is, BoJack also intentionally hurts people to justify his shitty attitude, and a lot of the same people who excoriate Diane for her behaviour will give BoJack a pass.
he is the good boi
Diane and Mr pb are actually only 11 years apart (pb born in 1969 and Diane born 1980), meaning he was 38 and Diane 27 when they first met so I feel like the point abt that being weird isn’t as strong, but the one with pickles is still pretty bad
Still feel sad for Greg, he didn't deserve it 😞
It's funny because I never knew that people irl actually liked him, I found him very shallow and annoyingly obnoxious save for a couple emotional moments later on.
I actually hated Mr Peanutbutter the whole time. He's extremely annoying. And also, I'm not a dog person
People like Mr. PeanutButter?
Cannot stand Mr. PeanutButter
Uh yer mom lol 😊
i like mr peanutbutter
I love you too PosiTVty
Good video, I love Mr Peanutbutter
Mr Peanutbutter always kinda pissed me off. It could be the fact that I'm a bit of a Diane in that it really bothers me that this absent-minded, privileged, unchanging guy can stumble upwards through life just by being a kind person, when being kind is never usually enough. I don't dislike HIM, but just the idea that he can always just be kind and funny and have that be enough to get him happily through life without really growing or changing for most of the show.
he is also the gateway to being a furry.
I’m sorry I adore mr peanut butter
Im the opposite, i dont rly like him
As hilarious as he is, I *detest* Mr. Peanutbutter. His particular brand of toxic positivity and selfishness drive me insane.
We dont love him. Youre wrong. We like him at best. We love bojack.
I never really liked PB
Does anyone else….really dislike him? Am I alone?
no but does anyone actually like him?
