I really do hope that Viz does hire Dillipngoo to take the helm of Rwby. I know he tried his hardest to get the rights but unfortunately lost but still he would absolutely make Rwby into gold I'm certain
I don't trust him since he never spoke out against the politicization of RWBY that happened in later seasons by the new writers that didn't care about Monty. He also worked for Rooster Teeth after they didn't give Sheena a role in it. Likely far better than the people who were around after Season 3 since everything after 4 makes a mess of the original vision. But I'm sure VIz have far better writers anyway.
Man... Never thought I wanted to hear this essay that puts RWBY and Zenless Zone Zero together, especially in hopes of the former getting to learn from the latter. Gives such joy to someone who absolutely enjoys RWBY Vol. 1 to 3 and currently ADDICTED to ZZZ! 👍😁👍
do yalls part (yes, you too, person who stumbled on this comment) reach out to them on all the viz social medias and share this video with em. the more they see fans doing it, the more they'll not just understand how important it is for us fans, but also to see that there's much more active interest too (which they can use to gauge what to allocate money toward future projects).
The cool factor that helped draw viewers into RWBY in the first place definitely became rarer as the series went on. Hopefully, whenever it comes back, it’ll get some new animators that’ll help breathe new life into this franchise.
The cool factor could have remained if RWBY's animators were given more freedom. The storyboard artists for the show largely became people who weren't animators themselves. It's pretty telling that they had no idea how to do the gunchucks again so they just told the animator for the scene to just board it herself and it came out cool 😂. Unfortunately she only had a week to animate it, imagine if she was give more time.
What's really sad is that CRWBY actually started to _regain_ that old choreography by Volume 9, with the tea party and final fight being extremely hard-hitting both physically and emotionally.
@@frizen9328 It’s a shame they didn’t hire more animators that were capable of making great fight choreography similar to Monty’s. Did they think that because they already acquired the fanbase, they didn’t have to try as hard anymore?
@@mauriceisaac3646 No they definitely tried. Monty is just built different. A problem is that the production became bigger and more official with them hiring more people but the way things are done in America is different from anime or eastern productions. With anime most storyboard artists are also animators but in America storyboard artist and animator is much more separated and animators usually have to follow the boards more strictly. A board artist that only boards thinks differently from an animator and there's also the added problem with budget and tight deadlines. The show had several amazing animators, they were just often limited due to production. Of course that's not to say there wasn't plenty of great fights post Monty. This isn't an all encompassing thing either, there are plenty of American storyboard artist's that are absolutely cracked and productions that give animators a bit more freedom, RWBY's production just wasn't one of them especially with their smaller budget and deadlines. Some really good RWBY animators are Matt Drury, Kim Newman, Melanie Stern, Joel Mann, Austin Hardwicke and Joel Vick.
@@frizen9328 Still a darn shame. I wonder what would’ve happened if production expanded while Monty lived. Would he not have been allowed to go as all-out as he did? I did hear rumors of him considering leaving RT and taking RWBY with him prior to his death, due to the way things were changing at the company.
Let’s be honest, the heart and soul of RWBY was Monty. Even at his peak, writing wasn’t his strong suit, it was the action. While Dillongoo is doing well to carry on his legacy. It doesn’t feel like there’s much left to salvage from RWBY. The plot is messy to say the least. It needs so much work, you’d probably be better off just starting a new series.
@josefkedron9558 Even volume 1 would need to be rewritten at least base level. As much as Monty was a insane animator, he was an animator only. I did hear once that he would disappear for days only to come back with entirely new fight scenes and the story writers would need to connect them It's a shame that the story as a base was really bad bc a lot of the characters had really good pulls and arcs that was rushed too fast (ruby and Weiss with Weiss being unsatisfied with the youngest as the leader whole ruby was suddenly thrust into the role and jaune being pressured by his family legacy as him being a failure and pyrra being pressured in the opposite sense as she was massively successful but that now brought massive pressure from everyone else)
Oh man, I really love that you explained why exactly the cool factor in RWBY just isn't there anymore. Monty is a hardcore otaku and whenever he references something he likes in the show, it's going to be a deep cut into a very niche product. You can't tell me that Yang's weapons weren't inspired by Bullet from BlazBlue. Heck, that's not the only BlazBlue reference in the show. Just look at Penny's floating blades. They're obviously inspired by Nu-13 from the same game series.
Yeah, this is a topic I can dig into all day really. Keep in mind Monty was doing a lot of super anime tropes in RWBY before they became super popular - like Raven and Adam were made before DMCV, and would be endlessly compared to Vergil today. Meanwhile the best RT could manage is a side character using a giant mech drill going "Gurren Lagann! You guys like that, right, fellow geeks?" Not only that, but I have little doubt Monty would have been continually inspired by all the new stuff today, instead of referencing 20-year old anime. I can only imagine what he would have done with inspirations like Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy 7 Remake/15/16, DMCV's motorbike-swords or Guilty Gear Strive today. It's not a Monty-exclusive thing necessarily, it's just a matter of having someone with a genuine love for this media at the heart of RWBY's creative direction, constantly finding new media to be inspired by.
@@SwitchbackCh Honestly, I think it's a good idea to have a video dedicated to talking about this topic a lot more. Explore why this sort of thing was what hooked a lot of anime fans into RWBY in the first place and why many see it as a genuine anime compared to the likes of other anime-inspired shows.
the faunus could be better designed to show the audience why some humans could be afraid of some of the more animal-like Faunus for a Example take Ben from ZZZ and some people in ZZZ react to him when first meeting him, now imagine that but in Orginal RWBY's cannon.
From what some animators said it was hell adding more then one faunas trait because they would have to add physics on it and it was like 2012 when animations were barely starting out and were running on low gear or well by our standards now which is low
I suppose if I thought about it, if they wanted to, Viz would need to rework the world of RWBY in order to make sticking to Beacon and Vale work or not make the audience wonder about other civilizations outside those confines. So turning each kingdom into its own faction within a theoretical Reboot Vale I think would work. Atlas could obviously just be the military of Vale. Defending borders, doing patrols, conquering new territory for expansion, etc. and apart of the nonexistent government Vale had in the show. Mistral could be aristocrats, Vacuo could be like the Outer Rim in ZZZ, border towns on the edge of Vale where it can get all rough and tumble, being one big kingdom divided into different sections of society.
As someone who writes a fanstory of rwby itself and ocs, the wording 'restraints' is fascinating and eye opening in a way. Thank you for this video and the insight you provided for ZZZ. It makes me want to dive into the game itself.
The four-man student team structures and naming scheme is a much bigger restraint than faunus features. I think they should have gone with two-man partner teams, with the four main characters sticking together because Ruby and Yang are sisters.
Weird how this past week I’ve been thinking about a possible RWBY x ZZZ crossover idea, and now I’ve come across a video talking about both as the main topic.
@@alejandromendozaprieto7108 facts,I recently played far cry 4 and de ided to look up content for speedruns on it so I can practice and turned out far cry 4 has been resurfacing a good bit past month or two.
If Rooster Teeth wrote for ZZZ they'd turn Caesar into an utter mess after the mission with Kasa's betrayal and Pompey's arrival. They'd make it so that her pride's so broken from the overwhelming responsibility of becoming an Overlord that she'd actually drop out from the Tour De Inferno all because they feel it's much more relatable that way
Then probably put her in some kind of romantic relationship with zero build up simply because two actresses and a vocal minority of fans were frothing for it. Even if it didn't make sense and went against the character to begin with.
Caesar has major Volume 1 Yang's energy, even moreso because she ALSO has a prosthetic arm and still kept all of that positive, big sis energy regardless lol
@@Starcraftgamer97 Yep, shipping is fine but shippers can't write romance. Monty never wanted them together and we all know that. They'd likely insert some immersion breaking modern political stuff too. Like if Jaune had a sister they'd 100% give her some cringe super out there family situation and no character would question it or would think anything is a little uncommon about them. At least with Arcane the writers aren't trying to shove their hand down my throat.
@@Starcraftgamer97finally found someone who has been able to put my feelings to words. I always felt that whole thing was some bad fanfic getting ahold of the show.
@@darken2417 "No character would question it or would think anything is a little uncommon about them." Why do you assume the world of RWBY is inherently homophobic and that the characters should question the "normality" of Jaune's sister's family? Why do you think it's inherently "cringe" for there to be a family of two moms and a son? Think deeply for a moment and self-reflect. Also the Yang x Blake slander is insane when they've been built up since the early volumes, but I guess that's what you get when you watch the show with your eyes closed and have a homophobic bias.
I have to admit, I went in to this video being very skeptical, as I do with most things to do with what RWBY could 'change' or 'learn from', but I have to say you made some excellent points about what many of RWBY's core flaws are, while still keeping it all in good faith. Very well done. Also this convinced me to try ZZZ
Viz seems to take a hands-off approach if their studios have some level of veteran status to them, RoosterTeeth has that status, but the longstanding Staff from them do not have the skill where it counts that comes from it. I hope they take potential hires for future RWBY endeavors through a fine-toothed comb. RoosterTeeth's animation and asset branches have historically been under two-year contract workers ever since Monty's passing, with a fundamentally absent renewal rate. Not even Monty's closest aides remained. This is financially efficient, and likely a conscious decision of the other departments to maintain their clique and standing in the company(this part is speculative), but a tradeoff to Contract Work spanning An Entire Department is that the workers therein have no incentive to foster the longevity of the IP, hence the constant renewal of character design, and the giant time-consuming assets that only get used for that Season of airing. RoosterTeeth's only Veteran-status departments are their Voice Actors, who are overall generally consistent in their line delivery for their Roles, and the Writing Leads. The Writing Team is the big problem that RWBY had, I have no idea what was going through their heads when they were writing anything, and getting into it is a dead horse that's been beaten down into compost by now; their story and lore was Mid at best, and cringe most of the time.
It does trickle down from the top. RT's scandals nonwithstanding, it started as essentially a group of frat bros making things together, centering content around juvenile edgy humour, then hardlining into sanitised writing when bro culture became too controversial. Hoyoverse when it was a small game studio started as a group of otaku, which is why anime references and visuals were always a part of the company's DNA, and why all their funds have gone into basically making their dream anime OC scenarios come to life.
Honestly, Rwby could learn from any of the hoyoverse games, but ZZZ is probably the best one. If they still wanted to continue in the direction that show did go, then genshin or Star Rail (probably this one) would be the best inspirations.
@elstrangeenemy887 I find that hard to believe. I don't dismiss any of the actual flaws with how Genshin's story is presented, but to call it "some of the worst" sounds like an exaggeration. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by Genshin's storytelling especially if it leads to you improving on its mistakes in your own work like what's happened with Star Rail (at least people claim that it does).
This video is hurting me emotionally because of how right it is, every character feels like it was made because it's cool and they're overflowing with style, just like how Monty intended, meanwhile newer RWBY characters are just wearing generic clothes and boring gray weapons (looking at you, Ace Ops and Happy Huntresses) Also, the thing about ZZZ feeling like "what could've been" is exactly why I pray every day that we get a ZZZ modder that likes RWBY: Pyrrha as Caesar, Jaune as Seth, Coco as Nicole, Mercury as Lycaon, Weiss as Ellen, Yang as Lighter, Cinder as Evelyn or Harumasa, Velvet as Jane, Salem as Rina, Illia as Anby, Ironwood as Billy, Raven as Miyabi or Yanagi, Nora as Koleda... so many mods that could scratch that itch for good RWBY content
I lived and breathed RWBY from the Red trailer through to the end of like season 5. I have Monty's signature among members of the cast on postera that adorn my walls. I wrote fanfics. I cosplayed, roleplayed and even travelled to RTX Austin 2017 because of my love of the show. I've been loving Zenless since it came out. It had the vibes that made me fall in love with the world of RWBY, but with the focus in the right place - worldbuilding and character growth are hand in hand. With RWBY, after volume 2, I had a seed of frustration because the majority of the writers weren't good writers of this kind of media full stop. I wanted to work for them as someone with a degree in psychology and writing because the characters, not the world, should have been king; or the two should have worked hand in hand the way ZZZ does. You've hit the nail on the head absolutely beautifully on just what I think.
Tbh. It isn’t a bad Idea. I felt like Rwby will just fit right in. We already have a Range + Melee characters like Harumasa where he can convert his bow into a dual swords. Rwby will fit just right in. Wiss is Ice, Blake is Ether, Yang is Fire and Ruby is Physical.
@@tsuaririndoku I could see Blake and/or Ruby as Ether Stunner or Attack units, Wiess as an Ice (with sub attributes of fire and physical) Anomaly or Support unit, and Yang as a Fire or Physical Stunner (Similar to Lighter) or Anomaly (Similar to Yanagi) unit.
@@liladoodle (If we're adding Pyrra?) Juan would be a Physical Defense or Support Unit, Nora an Electric Stunner or Offense Unit, Ren either a Physical or Ether Stunner Unit, and Pyrra either an Ether Defense or Attack unit... (Any other teams you want me to try?)
Thanks a lot for the inclusion of subtitles! I usually have subtitles on for videos to better understand (not a native english speaker), so I was confused at first why there were double subtitles lol. This was a very enjoyable and concise video. You explained things very clearly with extra flair, to boot. Maybe weird to say but it has heart. I loved it. Very nice music choices too, elevated the experience!
I have stuck with it this whole time, and while I can appreciate what it became and don’t want to lose the wider scope story, I do admit that RWBY lost the electric appeal of the start.
Yeah I keep thinking about what RWBY could’ve been too. I am one of those creators it inspired and have characters in my comic inspired by RWBY characters while at the same time, doing my own rewrite project, just seeing if I could make what I think RWBY was trying to do work.
yeah me too!. heck, the reason i now like to make fighting animation is because or RWBY's red trailer! and also my second ever character i created is literally blake but modified.
@@wildenboy_ sweet, one of my characters can basically be considered the OC kid of Roman and Raven cause he has his normal form that looks a tad like Roman with a bowler hat and cane and another that looks a lot like a genderswapped Raven but with a scythe sooo yeah aha
And I’m quite confident that ZZZ is at least partially a love letter to RWBY and a “what could have been”. In eastern media people with animal traits are rarely victims of racism, the animations, the way the characters move and the design of many of the monsters just screams RWBY-coded to me. The way the characters behave and how they fight is also a part of that feeling, it’s just… ZZZ is so good and it hits all the right RWBY spots, even if my only way of interacting with the series is reading the myriad fanfiction that expand on the universe better than the show ever could…
You know what'd be funny? If at some point in the future, RWBY gets a crossover with zzz, whether one to the other exclusively or both just entering each other's universe...unlikely, but who knows?
At first, I thought Genshin would be great for RWBY, but now that I think about it, ZZZ is the better choice, If I had to choose for Genshin, Frieren would be my best choice
RWBY needs a total reboot and rework with a better writing team to create greater emphasis on Character Depth and growth, as well as Narrative Development.
As a Hoyo game player myself, every time something cool happens in any of the games, I think to myself, "Man, RWBY would be so cool like this. I hope KRWBY's taking notes."
I've said this to one of my friends but Honkai Impact 3rd did RWBY's storyline better. It's got the high school that teaches it's students to fight monsters, the high school falling, the main cast splitting up and having to grow in their own separate paths until coming back together to beat the big bad. It also has the sense of identity and direction RWBY severely lacks
@silverhawkscape2677 at least it makes it more believable that they can overcome the final boss rather than collecting 4 relics that might work against the unkillable immortal villain
RWBY failed because for some ungodly reason Rooster Teeth was obsessed about using their properties as some PSA about mental health. For Christ's sake, no, I do not want Qrow getting neutered because he has depression, it doesn't add depth to his character now that he's a shriveling mess even though he's survived way worse both physically and emotionally. Handing over RWBY to western writers was the nail that sealed its coffin because westerners are always grounded in realism and RWBY was the farthest thing from that. Zenless forgoes realism and went all in on the fantastical. The writers aren't afraid to be cringe, stereotypical, goofy, and just over-the-top with their storytelling because that's the type of writing that best fits their world and its characters
Overall yeah, Western creators tend to want their creations to be treated as legitimate or taken seriously, further cemented by the darker tone post Volume 3. Something like RWBY needed to go all-in on being just plain fun and unafraid of embarrassing itself - this is why the early Volumes, while having janky voice acting and animation all around, still communicated a sense of earnest effort and bouncing around with its own ideas that's hard to dislike for someone already willing to give it a chance.
8:54 damn "come alive kicks in" but seriously though having a mellee weapon that turns into guns was very cool stuff for me at that time ,I stopped watching RWBY at volume 3/4 that was the one of the coolest combat I've ever see on anime
I'm glad I'm not the only one playing ZZZ and thinking how much of a spiritual successor it is to RWBY. Here's hoping Viz Media does RWBY good however they do it!
I absolutely loved Rwby when I was little but stopped taking track of the series because I didn’t know English and the Fandubs I was watching were running out, kinda sad to see it turned out like this. I however hope they learn a lot from Zzz since it’s become one of my favorite games exactly because if this cool factor that was lost on rwby. Unrelated but, does anybody know what song was used at 5:48?
In all honesty RWBY needs to have a rewrite, because with all the false hope of this franchise has been giving its fans, I would say the story needs new writers.
I'm fairly certain that it probably won't be much different than vol 9 given they'll probably bring back at least the head animators from previous seasons. Kerry is also still on board so the writing and pacing will be a similar production quality, unless VIZ decides to rework the whole concept (which may or may not be a horrible decision to make) which considering it's not as popular as it was 2013 I don't see any reason for them to meddle.
I think that is the keyword that RWBY lost during/after volume 3 “Focus” ! I agree that RWBY has a lot of potential to be better than it is currently and going bigger then Vale and Beacon was not the best choice…especially introducing newer characters but at the expense of the established characters, like I don’t care about Oscar or the Happy Huntress because they aren’t Monty’s characters. Viz needs to really to figure out what RWBY needs to be if they want it to survive, if rebooting the series and going back to basics will help it then go for it. I wonder… ZzZ could have a RWBY collab…I can see Ruby Rose be a physical/anomaly agent.
I mean I don’t think going outside the kingdoms was necessarily a bad choice it’s just it was executed wrong. Most of the volumes the characters do nothing to explore the environment and we don’t know much about the kingdoms as a result aside from World of Remnant which was killed off because they didn’t wanna follow their own lore.
As someone who has been a fan of RWBY since 12 years old, ZZZ gives me the sort of excitement that I've been searching for when looking for a RWBY-esque game since the official RWBY games don't appeal to me. Like, I have been living off RWBY content for 7 years and the only other game that can give me the same RWBY energy is Astral Chain in terms of combat. If you haven't played either games PLEASE do they are so fun.
Its gonna be so sad when the New RWBY releases and it's still down right terrible after, that will just feel like a waste of time if they never learned anything about there literal studio getting shut down, and if that's the case then we might get another situation like this, unless they do actually step up and actually make good show moving forward
Funny enough i listen to rwby bgm while playing zzz and one of the reasons why i got intrigue by the game is cuz belle kinda looked like ruby for me hahah and also the actions. I really love the combat of this game
What Viz's RWBY actually needs to learn is how to create an actual artstyle (or style in general) outside of "generic 3D anime" Also i think i can go without seeing characters like the bear and wolf guy from zenless in rwby
It's kinda wild how little M&K knew of anime before taking on RWBY, it took over so many aspects of pop culture, yet they had to take homework just to get some of of aspects of it... which they failed btw.
As a newer fan of RWBY (Came to know of it around Volune 7 and I have the anthology manga's & After the Fall), I would love for a ZZZ collab with RWBY.
All I want is for the current story to be completed. On another note, I happen to feel like a full reboot or reset might not work too well as I feel as though a lot of people would be too attached to the characters histories and developments to go right back to the beginning. A great way to circumvent this could be to finish the current story and start on a new plot that's separate from Ozpin and Salem and set a few years in the future, and perhaps even have the Brothers resurrect Pyrrha as a reward for ending Salem and uniting humanity; the original status quo would be reinstated without removing or undoing the last decade of character development, the advancements of the characters' skill would remain and allow for more varied and interesting movesets, and the show would be able to move forward instead of being pigeonholed back into Beacon.
this is nitpicky, but at 0:50 ZZZ has fallen in the trappings of Hoyoverse games ever since the beginning which involved continuing to use their type of gacha, which is the "Character, Weapon, Artifact" gacha. Considering they were the ones that started it, every Hoyoverse game is going to fall in that trap.
I watched this to see if there was anything RWBY could learn from ZZZ like it said, but I admit it's made me more interested in ZZZ as a game instead. Not enough to play it, but I admit it's a very cool game. More than I thought it was from a distance. And honestly? The talent for making RWBY anywhere as good as ZZZ just isn't there.
It's also funny how Seth's weapon is basically what Jaune's should've been. I don't know who had the idea to use his scabbard to make a bigger sword, but the person who executed it didn't quite got the assignment. Something I like that ZZZ does, which I've seen in other games, mostly from Japan, is having humanity on the brink, New Eridu is the last city on the planet, in Black Rock Shooter: The Game, there are only 12 humans left, etc. I think RWBY should've done that. We are told that Salem is a huge threat, bu are also shown that there are 4 countries, with one main city, but there are also small settlements, but there's also small towns, and other schools here and there, and what the fuck is it RT? If Viz reboots RWBY, the 4 cities should be the main locations and the rest should be a wasteland where only bandits and huntsmen dare walk. Farms should be guarded by small armies, travelling should be done in well armed convoys. Show us that the moment the characters step into that world, danger awaits. It almost makes me want to see RWBY come back as a game and not a series...
it would be interesting to see you do a comparasion between RWBY and Honkai impact 3rd(Hi3), due to how similar they are. The first third of part 1 taking place in a school setting before branching out. the second being about expanding on the world and focusing on individaul stories, much like vol4-6 were. the last third of part 1 was the conclusion to several antaganist and the over arching threat itself. with 1.5 and part 2 is about exploring the solar system now that they're able, getting a crossover with it's younger sible title Honkai star rails(also takes place in the hi3 multiverse, With Welt and his Friend being from Hi3)
I never played the ZZZ game but I did hear that it so I asked does it have same energy that Monty brought to his fights always pushing the the bar higher in cool Factor I never knowing what chaos he would put into the his next fight Monty we miss you😢
And hella expansive considering how sparsely used they are across the game Still would be hella dope if they can put that kinda animation into the fights or any and all zany moments you'd typically see in an anime without tanking away their budget
I got interested with ZZZ coz it did reminded me of RWBY. Heck I even saved enough to wait and pull for Miyabi as She reminded me of Blake. Blake is my fave Character in the RWBY franchise. Thirens being the Faunus, Ethereals being the Grimms, and the Battle System reminded me of the fight scenese that Monty made. Everything in ZZZ Screams RWBY! Even if RWBY is not an inspiration of ZZZ, I take ZZZ as a spiritual successor of RWBY, albeit only in a small part. And now, coz of this video, I yearn for a Collab of RWBY and ZZZ as everything fits! In the last season of RWBY they tackled dimensions. A collab can work like Salem in dire need to escape Team RWBY, made a portal that transported them in the ZZZ World. Trapped, Salem was then able to fuse with Nineveh or another BIG Boss Ethereal looking for a way back to Remnant. Team RWBY then asked for help with a ZZZ Team that found them and pointed them to Phaeton to guide them in the Hollow where Salem and an Ethereal Boss fused.
RWBY should take Inspiration from Zenless Zone Zero and they should also use the Live Action Style Camera for the Action Sequences like what Mega Man Fully Charged did. One more thing I also want VIZ Media to do is bring in Sebastian Evans ii to help out Casey Lee Williams and Martin Rodriguez with composing the Score for V10 of RWBY causes I think that he could add some Special Flare to the Music since he's an Underrated Score Composer.
Setting- and character-wise, _Honkai Impact 3rd_ is much closer to _RWBY_ (the school, the creatures who want to destroy humanity, and shadowy figures). And it has also had its identity woes. Partly because Mihoyo didn't know what they were doing when they started, where they were going to go with the story or characters. They just sort of had a beginning of a story and some fighting loops, and that was it. It was only later, when they realized that if they continued to give players the same experience over and over and started trying to build something else, that they started to develop the characters and stories into more than just a vehicle for delivering eye candy and fast-paced combat (although it is still very much that as well). Over time, and through various trials and tribulations, _HI3_ became an intensely personal journey where we, the players, follow the main three characters, and those surrounding them, through their lowest lows and highest highs -- and this is absolutely where _HI3_ hits its best story points, thereby also generating the argument by many players that it has lost its stride and spark in Part 2. Pretty much in response, the Honkai Team has started bringing Part 1 characters back into the fold, and brought the story closer to home, while continuing to explore some large-scale mysteries. For sure, the story is at its most confusing when characters are talking about multiverses and quantum physics. At these points in the game, it's the characters we know we help to ground the story and justify why learning about the world, the setting, is important. That's a lesson any creative team can learn. Together with 'keep it simple, sweetheart.' Yeah, you lose lots of people when you complicate things. It took a few years, but the Honkai Team knows what it wants to do, the kinds of experience they want players to have, as well as their obvious love for the product they continue to support. Even with Shaoji continuing to harvest players' tears. Funny how real people can be made to care about a collection of pixels, huh? But yes, we Captains feel proud of our girls of Honkai.
I didn't touch WuWa because of general Genshin open world burnout, but I did enjoy Star Rail for quite a while! ZZZ was just the right game for my needs so I made it my only Hoyoverse game soon after lol
@@SwitchbackCh I don’t know, I mean Wuwa has more complex combat than Genshin and don’t get me started with PGR, that game’s combat is intense and you can also parry, if you have a skill for it.
@@nishchayjain1121 I think the point is not everyone is into complex combat you know. Being complex could be a plus for some and a minus for others. ZZZ is clearly made with a huge focus on casual players with some features designed for those more hardcore. But anyway, I’m kinda curious why so many people think wuwa conbat is more complex than zzz. Every character has a certain way to build and to play to optimize their kit’s strengths. After that, it’s all about team building and rotation. This is the same for both games. So how is wuwa better? Just because they have a few more move sets like plunging attack or intro/outro skills??
I see all the inspirations but they don't really have to confine themselves to a single city/country. I just hope that they definitely focus on Vale and Beacon a lot though for the first few seasons. They could mention snippets of other places here and there, a lot of media has done that and made it work. We could still understand how the general way the world works through how the city of vale works and watch it be fleshed out as much as it should have been in the original RWBY show. We know little of the culture of vale, how the people there live differently from the other kingdoms, etc. All RWBY needed, like you said in the video, is just focus. While I hope we get a RWBY reboot, I just wish that whatever next iteration of RWBY is shown, it's with a clearer vision of what it wants to be.
I pray for one more season, a movie to end it all and then for RWBY to get a reboot. I could honestly do with just a reboot but I want the people involved to at least get a chance to end it with as many of their original ideas intact.
Nah, the reboot button needs to be slammed with the force of 1000 Semi-Trucks. And hopefully it's tied to the same switch that yeets the last writing team (specifically Miles, Kerry, and Eddie) out of ever touching the show again.
Last year I watched the entirety of RWBY for the first time. I thought it was pretty good! But based on the comments and videos I've seen on social media it seems that I hold the unpopular opinion lol.
Thank you. I took extra care to make sure that my English comment is perfect so that you can understand better. This is the best RWBY video I have ever seen. You explained everything about why RWBY failed to reach even a small sliver of the potential that it promised. To me, RWBY died with Monty. As a long time Mihoyo fan, I often feel repulsed by the behaviour that western people have brought to the community ever since Genshin released. These days I feel disappointed when I find out that a new Eastern IP is going to be available to westerners, because they always bring controversy and disaster with them. If it were up to me, I would let Monty's precious creation rest and not continue to be tainted. It would be nice to be able to enjoy RWBY again, especially after all of the terrible controversies and betrayals of the fans that Rooster Teeth did. But the recent decade has proven that as long as western companies are at the helm, any anime styled project will be plagued by the threat of western ideologies. Even if RWBY does return, and is good, it will still have a lot to prove before I will give it a chance but thank you for making this video and giving me some nostalgia.
It was somewhat flawed for the 1st 3 volumes but objectively speaking it was good But the narrative slightly declined after vol 4 and artstyle improved
I stook it out till end sesson 8 But 7 just it felt they took all the8r political snger and dumoed it into characters its feels like bad fandiction yang forgets her entire character growth Yangs dad in season 4 “you rely on fighting to solve all your problems “ Yang learned to be smart in season 4-6 But season 7 “your a coward for not wanting take a fight with 1% chance of victory “
Be a multimillion chibese gacha company who doesn't have public investors to answer to(except for thw thinly veiled ccp one)so they can do whatever the heck you want with your IP without worrying about "number go up" shenanigans being publicly traded brings? And have agacha game that earns your millons every month? Yeah....
Small (formerly) western indie company that made an Anime (12 years ago) on a shoestring budget vs a multi-million-dollar eastern game dev team and company.... that's like comparing FNaF (the first game) to Bulders Gate 3. I really like RWBY's world scope and world building it's actually nice to see the affects a world threatening event has on the world rather than on one City State. We hear a lot about how New Eradu is the final city on the planet (That might be Earth in the future), but we have no proper scale other than Hollow Zero being several miles wide and maybe the moon, we can guess what happened to the other cities, but since we're told explicitly New Eradu is the last there is no need to think of the ones that were lost and makes the world feel small despite its theming being Space/Stars, big grand expansive concept reduced to a single city...
Budget has nothing to do with writing? So I'm not sure why you're talking about money here. You can say that Hoyoverse is more experienced at writing, but that's still no real excuse to say that comparing the two is somehow "biased". The problem with RWBY's worldbuilding is that it's as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. Each major Kingdom is like... an aesthetic and a couple of words describing the general vibe. But you get no sense of an actual culture or history from each Kingdom. Vale is just "generic modern city". Menagerie is shown as a tropical paradise and the overcrowded dumping ground for all the Faunus that it should be. Same goes for the differences between each of the Academy's. At the very least, ZZZ's smaller scale means I get to actually understand the general culture and history behind New Eridu, and the writers get to actually flesh out a location instead of needing to jump to another continent away to progress their story.
@@Birthday888 Ask a lot of writers especially movie or show writers that same budget question, see how they answer. For high budget ones even there are often things that are cut out, changed or forgotten simply because the budget wouldn’t allow it. Compare volume one of RWBY too volume three or nine, as their budget grew they were able to do bigger more creative ideas or flesh out the world more (quite literally with the background characters). Same could literally said about ZZZ which I will get to later. But you only mention Vale (the starting area), what about Atlas, Vacuo, or Mistral? Mistral is a very eastern inspired land, that I will admit got very little depth to it because a lot of the focus was on the characters at the time not the area, Atlas is probably the most detailed since the majority is traveling to and spending time in or around its main city, Vacuo is always hinted at, this is also kinda overlooking the stuff in the distant past and the Everafter… ZZZ scale makes no sense in comparison to its ambition. A world level threat yet it’s centralized around one large city that is not the World, that is one city that has gotten split up into 4-5 quarters to add themes to each new update. New Eradu is just generic urban city, and Blazewood is a rundown town with a western/biker theme. I honestly like both RWBY and ZZZ but comparing them is like comparing old Loony Tunes cartoons too newer Disney cartoons.
@@SwitchbackCh okay, since your problem is basically “I don’t like the scope of RWBY and think RT was too ambitious” yet are saying you’re wanting them to do more? Volume one they couldn’t even give the background characters proper detail, also it a bit contradictory on your part, that RT wanted a large scale story while having a small budget but then going “they should scale it down and focus on a small portion of the world” while also saying “this big company is good at doing a small scale setting”…. See the contradiction of “budget doesn’t affect writing”? And if RT did focus on just Vale and Mountain Glen. You basically make RWBY like every other anime where the Big bad only attacks one city yet is a threat too the whole world. You know how boring and stupid those types of anime are? “Hey big bad why are you only attacking this one area? Couldn’t you just go somewhere else and… destroy us from there?” Like you’re using old 80s and 90s logic at that point. Yes the story would gain focus, but that’s isn’t the type of story they wanted to tell, a world threatening story should, you know INVOLVE THE WORLD!
The series went completely off the rails inserting their politics into it after the original author died. Overtime it felt more and more like a Western product since it lost the love for anime that the author had. The new writers were clearly the sort of people who get offended by anime. Like all of the DEI type insert characters in later seasons like Jaune's sister, they didn't even try to be subtle with that lol. The Shaft RWBY anime was half-decent but really suffered by taking a played out trope used for one or two episodes and extending it across a whole season. And Shaft was clearly not trying much, I know they could have done better, I've seen more than enough of their work to know they were being lazy here. One thing that I really disliked with the RoosterTeeth writers is when they paired up two main characters who have never looked at each other that way to make fanshippers happy. Its all fine and good to ship but shippers can't actually do romance lol. They just see characters they like together and then make them be together without caring if it makes sense. The original author clearly wasn't going for that but they didn't care, they did it anyway.
Unfortunately, after the third season, RWBY slipped into something incomprehensible. Monty Oum's departure to a better world almost put an end to the interesting development of the series. All the subsequent ones were only getting worse and worse, over and over again. Only a total restart of the series with the complete exodus of all "soy" from the team can change something. No more deep introspection and complex psychological problems - just pure action and drive, slightly diluted by the plot. And of course, you need to look at other people's successful developments and apply them at home. This is the only way the RWBY series can regain its former popularity.
Sorry but I have to disagree on the part of devil may cry not having a well crafted story. When that in fact is not true at all. As someone who is very immersed in the lore, while the series is certainly known for the rule of cool. It have a well made story through the game's, mangas, anime and novels. I can guarantee that much. Other than that, i agreed with the rest of the video.
For me, dmc's lore does slap hard for its complexity but the main stories on the main games where never the focus. The only dmc that I think is well crafted is 3. I was quite disappointed with 5 with how they handled the characters, mainly the non-playable once (except for Nico) and Vergil. 1 was not perfect but a great foundation to a greater story. 4 was meh and 2 was just horrible. I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy the stories but those where just not the focus of the games
Relax bro, I said that DMC MAY not be the most well-crafted story next to some of the most defining works of fiction of all time, not that DMC is trash
So, um, imma need whoever VIZ has in charge of RWBY at this point to watch this video. Also, Yang and Ruby already fight like ZZZ characters.
do yalls part (yes, you too, person who stumbled on this comment) reach out to them on all the viz social medias and share this video with em. the more they see fans doing it, the more they'll not just understand how important it is for us fans, but also to see that there's much more active interest too (which they can use to gauge what to allocate money toward future projects).
Viz just hired the current team to see it through so you just want Miles and Kerry to change they original plan
What if everything past volume 2 (or 3) is ignored and they start from there?
@josefkedron9558 Even volume 1 would need to be rewritten at least base level. As much as Monty was a insane animator, he was an animator only. I did hear once that he would disappear for days only to come back with entirely new fight scenes and the story writers would need to connect them
It's a shame that the story as a base was really bad bc a lot of the characters had really good pulls and arcs that was rushed too fast (ruby and Weiss with Weiss being unsatisfied with the youngest as the leader whole ruby was suddenly thrust into the role and jaune being pressured by his family legacy as him being a failure and pyrra being pressured in the opposite sense as she was massively successful but that now brought massive pressure from everyone else)
You guys like that, right, fellow geeks?"
Not only that, but I have little doubt Monty would have been continually inspired by all the new stuff today, instead of referencing 20-year old anime.
Yang predates BlazBlue, let alone Bullet. At the very least, the Yellow Trailer and BB released the same year, with Bullet appearing years later.
THANK YOU my right ear felt sad at being left out lmao
My old mic was on mono and I didn't change the settings when I switched lol
I just knew that if Monty was still here he would love the ever living shit out of ZZZ. I miss him…
the faunus could be better designed to show the audience why some humans could be afraid of some of the more animal-like Faunus for a Example take Ben from ZZZ and some people in ZZZ react to him when first meeting him, now imagine that but in Orginal RWBY's cannon.
There was Software limitations back then. RT Animators can't add more than one animal features to Faunus characters without crashing.
Sometimes the ideas synchronize near at one specific moment
@@Starcraftgamer97
Yep, shipping is fine but shippers can't write romance.
Kinda funny because most japan's adaptation mostly stopped at beacon academy, they didn't even bother to expand beyond that
I have to admit, I went in to this video being very skeptical, as I do with most things to do with what RWBY could 'change' or 'learn from', but I have to say you made some excellent points about what many of RWBY's core flaws are, while still keeping it all in good faith.
People who started their youtube account back in 2010 and still upload are absolute legends!
Honestly, Rwby could learn from any of the hoyoverse games, but ZZZ is probably the best one. If they still wanted to continue in the direction that show did go, then genshin or Star Rail (probably this one) would be the best inspirations.
Genshin has some of the worst writing I've ever seen in fiction, why would anyone take inspiration from it 💀💀💀
@elstrangeenemy887 I find that hard to believe.
Nah just ZZZ
Genshin Rail is just boring
@@kingknightisbestknight7398 It's all the same to me tbh
HI3rd has some peak writing, but I think that ZZZ is their best game.
Well you just sold me getting ZZZ now, awesome video 👍
This video is hurting me emotionally because of how right it is, every character feels like it was made because it's cool and they're overflowing with style, just like how Monty intended, meanwhile newer RWBY characters are just wearing generic clothes and boring gray weapons (looking at you, Ace Ops and Happy Huntresses)
Also, the thing about ZZZ feeling like "what could've been" is exactly why I pray every day that we get a ZZZ modder that likes RWBY:
Pyrrha as Caesar, Jaune as Seth, Coco as Nicole, Mercury as Lycaon, Weiss as Ellen, Yang as Lighter, Cinder as Evelyn or Harumasa, Velvet as Jane, Salem as Rina, Illia as Anby, Ironwood as Billy, Raven as Miyabi or Yanagi, Nora as Koleda... so many mods that could scratch that itch for good RWBY content
This definitely makes me hope for a RWBY collab with ZZZ one day

At first, I thought Genshin would be great for RWBY, but now that I think about it, ZZZ is the better choice,
If I had to choose for Genshin, Frieren would be my best choice

@ THANK YOU SO MUCH
Yeah that’s what we talking about hope viz Rwby finally leaves the curse being bad and finally be awesome again 🎉❤
100% support this idea.
ZZZ being alternate RWBY possibly just explained to me why I ended up liking ZZZ even though all of Hoyos other games haven't kept my attention 🤣
I loved s1-3 if rwby but after that it kinda fell off after Monty passed. The RWBY Alt project by Jerry Freeman sums up how i feel about it now tbh
Miyabi’s Trailer at 1:16 literally has a Ruby lookalike
Its gonna be so sad when the New RWBY releases and it's still down right terrible after, that will just feel like a waste of time if they never learned anything about there literal studio getting shut down, and if that's the case then we might get another situation like this, unless they do actually step up and actually make good show moving forward
Funny enough i listen to rwby bgm while playing zzz and one of the reasons why i got intrigue by the game is cuz belle kinda looked like ruby for me hahah and also the actions. I really love the combat of this game
@silverhawkscape2677 so true hahaha especially in her scenes xD
What Viz's RWBY actually needs to learn is how to create an actual artstyle (or style in general) outside of "generic 3D anime"
Also i think i can go without seeing characters like the bear and wolf guy from zenless in rwby
Send this video to Viz IMMEDIATELY!!!
It's kinda wild how little M&K knew of anime before taking on RWBY, it took over so many aspects of pop culture, yet they had to take homework just to get some of of aspects of it... which they failed btw.
A lot of ZZZ animations are influenced by RWBY
You can ask Azrial Vanity about it
Music in video? 👀
I forgot the exact titles but they're all from ZZZ's soundtrack I'm certain.. the last one is the theme song, Come Alive (Stripped version)
Chat, he's gotta a point with thiis one (even if this one doesn't hit the target audience)
As a newer fan of RWBY (Came to know of it around Volune 7 and I have the anthology manga's & After the Fall), I would love for a ZZZ collab with RWBY.
ZZZ is a 2024 game
If Rwby change the animation, voice actor actress and better story, it will be a banger.
There are some minor differences between them
I watched this to see if there was anything RWBY could learn from ZZZ like it said, but I admit it's made me more interested in ZZZ as a game instead.
That would be cool for sure
I never played the ZZZ game but I did hear that it so I asked does it have same energy that Monty brought to his fights always pushing the the bar higher in cool Factor I never knowing what chaos he would put into the his next fight Monty we miss you😢
2:34 TEAM SLVR MENTIONED!!! LES GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A RWBY ZZZ Crossover would go hard...
Damn! That makes so much sence!
RWBY and Zenless is such a fucking power I love this! And love both 🤣
Tbh. Rwby can go full remake with ZZZ level of Animations. It would be a huge satisfaction to watch.
And hella expansive considering how sparsely used they are across the game
Still would be hella dope if they can put that kinda animation into the fights or any and all zany moments you'd typically see in an anime without tanking away their budget
@@LeEnquu Nah it would be cheaper if they use Japanese Animation Studios
@@tsuaririndoku much true, altho one can still dream
Zzz and rwby that’s gonna be the best collab ever 🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This would be the perfect Collab for ZZZ and Rwby Team Rwby an Giving Cunning Haresor Section 6 color pallets of Team Jnpr
Great way to start 2025
ZZZ is like RWBY explains why I couldnt get into it.
Um, ZZZ came out in 2024. Unless I'm stupid and I'm missing something.
oh man i was hopeing for a cross over lol. RWBY it had a nice start and was funny. and ZZZ is fun to play.
Wait, I already watched this.
Man it would be crazy if hoyoverse saw this... 👀👀👀. I miss RWBY
ZZZ isn't from 2022 tho. It realised in 2024
RWBY should take Inspiration from Zenless Zone Zero and they should also use the Live Action Style Camera for the Action Sequences like what Mega Man Fully Charged did.
One more thing I also want VIZ Media to do is bring in Sebastian Evans ii to help out Casey Lee Williams and Martin Rodriguez with composing the Score for V10 of RWBY causes I think that he could add some Special Flare to the Music since he's an Underrated Score Composer.
The one area of RWBY that doesn't need help is the music, the soundtracks absolutely slap.
I know but bringing in Sebastian Evans ii would be the perfect opportunity since he's a very Underrated Music Composer.
Also let us have ARKOS 🙏!!
Would this be a good excuse to ask you for some input on some creatures that I'm working on for RWBY?
Hey Syto, have you thought about making videos based on Wuthering Waves and Honkai Star Rail?
@@quangthaitruong7960wuwa is kinda for hardcore player more i guess
zzz more chill casual less open world = less tired of exploration
@@tomnguyen7807 There is Punishing Grey Raven as well.
Honestly, I think going straight to reboot might be the better play. It’s been going downhill for a long time and honestly deserves a fresh start.
I would never support a reboot
Nah, the reboot button needs to be slammed with the force of 1000 Semi-Trucks. And hopefully it's tied to the same switch that yeets the last writing team (specifically Miles, Kerry, and Eddie) out of ever touching the show again.
@@Starcraftgamer97 I will never support it
Last year I watched the entirety of RWBY for the first time. I thought it was pretty good! But based on the comments and videos I've seen on social media it seems that I hold the unpopular opinion lol.
ZZZ kinda is a 2024 game though :D
RWBY can never be like Zenless Zone Zero. It has its own identity. It only wishes it can be. They can try, but it won't hit the highs of ZZZ.
i want news on rwby
It was somewhat flawed for the 1st 3 volumes but objectively speaking it was good
But the narrative slightly declined after vol 4 and artstyle improved
I stook it out till end sesson 8
But 7 just it felt they took all the8r political snger and dumoed it into characters its feels like bad fandiction yang forgets her entire character growth
Yangs dad in season 4 “you rely on fighting to solve all your problems “
Yang learned to be smart in season 4-6
But season 7 “your a coward for not wanting take a fight with 1% chance of victory “
Yeah, it's a biased comparision.

Mistral is a very eastern inspired land, that I will admit got very little depth to it because a lot of the focus was on the characters at the time not the area, Atlas is probably the most detailed since the majority is traveling to and spending time in or around its main city, Vacuo is always hinted at, this is also kinda overlooking the stuff in the distant past and the Everafter…
ZZZ scale makes no sense in comparison to its ambition.
Hype
RWBY is still a thing? lol bless
