  • How to Burn Defenders like MacKinnon - MacKinnon 1on1
If you've ever watched Nathan MacKinnon Highlights, you know that he is one of the most dangerous players in the NHL off of the rush. He beats defenders with speed - but also his footwork. We examine his footwork so that you can learn it and implement it in games.

Solid vid. The c-cut weight transfer is the key!

Using the toes and the head direction to force the defenders to push that way! Love the duck bunny analogy I started taking on a defensive center role and started struggling to make moves because I wasn’t really putting effort into thinking on how to move the defender was just like yeah I’m gonna burn this guy this is definitely gonna change the way I move the puck on a quick 1on1/2on2 rush. Needed this video

Train 2.0 - Jason Yee MacK is the kind of explosive player I've always tried to be. But more than just power, he's got slick stick work and a hell of a shot, all of which he can activate at speed. Only a few players in the world have that imo. McDavid being the other obvious exemplar of skill at speed. That goal MacKinnon scored last year against the Capitals where he scythed through the D before roofing a backhand is a great example.

This isn’t that special. drill drill on stickhandling then change directions really quick, keep the defenders guessing with different looks and feints

So, pretend to go one way, then go another. Why didn't I think of that?

it made a lot of sense to me. it's all about deception, and then using certain mechanics (c-cuts) to utilize that deception to create space. not that complicated.
