- This is our guide on things to do in Southampton. We visited a number of attractions across the city and we are sharing these with you so that you can make the most of your time in Southampton. We visited the Seacity Museum where we got to experience Southampton's Titanic History. Next we took a look in the Southampton Art Gallery which has many exhibitions displaying renaissance to modern day art. We visited God's House Tower where we uncovered a hidden cruise view point! One of the highlights was a trip to the Tudor House and Garden where we learnt about lives of Southampton residences from days gone by. We finally got to experience Stakks Pancake house in the Marland Shopping Centre. We also walked the Southampton walls and took a look around Holyrood Church. During our Pre-cruise visit to Southampton we stayed in the historic White Star Tavern and dined there in the evening. This is open to non guest for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Southampton, located on England’s south coast, is a vibrant city with a rich maritime heritage. Dating back to the Roman era, the city has played a pivotal role in British history. During the Middle Ages, Southampton thrived as a trading port, exporting wool and importing wine. Its importance grew further in the 19th and 20th centuries as it became a hub for shipbuilding and transatlantic travel, famously being the departure point of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
Today, Southampton seamlessly blends its historic charm with modern attractions. Visitors can explore the city’s past at the SeaCity Museum, which delves into Southampton’s Titanic connections, or stroll along the medieval city walls, some of the best-preserved in England. The Tudor House and Garden offers a glimpse into Tudor life, while the Bargate, a medieval gatehouse, stands as a striking symbol of the city.
For those seeking culture, the Mayflower Theatre hosts a variety of performances, and art enthusiasts will enjoy the Southampton City Art Gallery. Nature lovers can relax in Southampton Common, a vast green space, or take a short ferry ride to the Isle of Wight. Whether exploring history or enjoying waterfront dining, Southampton offers something for everyone.

Those pancakes 😍😍. I was in Southampton 2 years ago before a cruise and had no idea there was so much to do. If I'm ever there again, I'll definitely come back to this video for some ideas.

@TomandDomTravel Thanks for the reassurance. Very helpful. This is my first visit to the UK and I gave lots of thought to staying in London, but I got such a good rate at Southampton Travelodge that I figured I'm far better off there and taking the train in to London for day trips. And I do want to see some smaller towns too, there are real advantages to being right by the port, and real advantages to having one hotel stay rather than two were I to divide my time. But I can't not make it to the British Museum and at least see some of the iconic London sites!
@abrahamclott5604 the British museum is one of our favourite places to visit. Look out for their free guided exhibition tours
Definitely want to try these gone to the sea city museum but never heard of these others! Going to try some next time and also Cobwebs (an ocean liner/ship memorabilia shop!)
