NGAD vs F-22: A New Champion in the Skies?

  • When the F-22 Raptor entered service in 2005, it was almost alien. It featured capabilities that had never been seen on any fighter before it, nor on any fighter after it. It brought the United States unrivaled air dominance. It was in a league of its own, it was the world’s first fifth-generation fighter. And despite three fifth-generation fighters entering service since then, the Raptor remains the indomitable fighter of the skies. Yet, the US Air Force wants to retire it. Why? Why retire the most lethal fighter in the world? The answer is not so simple. The Raptor does make a good argument but so too does the fighter that longs to replace it. This is a video of the two fighters; you decide which should fly in the skies of tomorrow.

The NGAD looks sleek, the weaponry is cutting edge. The only question I have pertaining to the NGAD at this time is: Precisely when, will NGAD be deployed? As for the F-22 Raptor: Why retire a fighter plane feared by the world simply because we have a new fighter? The F-22's should not be retired! Billions of dollars worth of highly capable fighters, sent to rust, makes little strategic sense at all. Why not station the F-22's in Finland, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Australia? Spread them out at our adversaries' doorsteps. Think chess. The more Queens on the board, the better. In chess, as in war, position is critical. Dominance is always the impetus. Retire such a dominant weapon? IMHO, it's utter madness or, politics. Choose one. Taking the F-22 off of the board is, certainly not, sound military judgement. Is our goal domination? If, so, why consider retiring such a weapon? Look at the
A-10. Once we own the airspace, send in the A-10's. They are fantastic yet, they want to retire the A-10 , one of the most effective weapons we have. Politics/idiocy, share the same symptoms.

Not giving away nothing, the got no idea what the new plane looks like or what it can do!!! One thing is correct a 5 gen can't touch a gen 6 not close!!!! Money is the bid thing the F22 costs alot so if the new one costs close to the old one. Same happened to the F14 Tomcat, old navy pilots preferred the 14 over the F18 that replaced it!!!!

Until they have lasers that really work they need to keep the F-22 flying and protecting our country

    • @shaeharris7961

They will keep some of them not for air force but army special forces in Alaska airborne units will keep over 200 F22 aircraft with 5 & 6 generation technology upgrades with lazers installed. We are trying not to brag about this… Alaska is one of the key state that provides imminent protection against Russia attacks… Russia knows it as well how strong and powerful our special forces operate and provide high level protection against our enemies.!!!
Air Force is letting F22 and all F18 s to retire with in next 10 years. Replacing roughly 500 of 6 generations of NGAD. We have over dozens of them fully operational now and few of them are quietly being in Navy Super Carriers Now and already have been tested successfully against Mediterranean hummus,/Iran war missions completed ✔️ Some of this narrative is about 18 months of old news from our citizens. Let just hope that Chinese government don’t rob the six generation technology get stolen, like they did on F 35 first generation technology parts.. Lucky Martin, ever since then completely upgraded and first generation, technology is no longer in use or obsolete.!!!
Only thing China did is made something similar to generation fighter jet because of stolen items …

I saw the F35 and F22 demo teams and the F35 looked like a bloated pale copy of the Raptor. Until the Raptor is out done in capability and numbers it belongs at the tip of the spear

USAF talks about retiring everything in their toolbox like the A-10, F-22, F-117, F-15, F-16, and it's all BS. They spend billions of dollars on upgrades and then talk about retiring thereafter.

well considering Robert Gates and Obama killed the F-22, you dont really have a choice why its getting retired. Its either rebuild the entire fighter assembly (which has been converted to building F-35s now) or build a new aircraft from scratch...it will cost more to do than building a new designed aircraft thats current technology now. To modernize one single F-22 to todays standard would cost over 1 billion per unit at the moment....and yes, we have 1 updated modernized raptor that costs just that much. Would be nice to have an F22 fighter assembly line again, but not going to happen.

The US doesn't promote military equipment. The equipment itself does all the talking. What jet would compete with an F22?

  • @josephdanielsjr7517

I believe, that NGAD combat jet will allow the U.S., to compete in the race for air space dominance. The raptor can be decommissioned and put in the EAA.

hey guy's that new jet, it's not NGAD !!!! that is the ''DARK STAR'' !!!! right !!! OMG, com'n guy's let's get it right !!! HA,HA, and no way can we take anything out of our toolbox !!! President Trump made sure of that the F-22, F-15-A's, F-16, A-10, and the BOOMER'S B-1-B, B-2-SPIRIT, B-52, the new B-2, and what ever F and B i forgot, is to stay in service until the until early 2030's on some and 2050's on other's !!! so i really don't believe we need to worry about them date's but we will see !!! but for what i no is coming to this planet !! ya we will see !!!! just say'n !!!!

F-16s are being sent to Ukraine One thing the yanks do is build good jets Starting with the F4 Phantom F15, F16 F22 and F35 The RAF bought Phantoms and the F35 oh and the Boeing E3D and Poseidon Don’t retire them for the sake of it they played a big part in the Gulf Wars and still perform well Don’t often have a good word to say about the yanks I just have 🇺🇸
