Your the best Jonno ! Hold up the fort ! Love your taking charge , and supporting your misses and new bub ! Good there's new content instead of repeats! Keeping it real! Cheers to your channel!
The house is just one big adventure after another, you are a blessing Jono…steady work and measure twice …great work, a white t shirt may need a rethink 🤣🤣 and good video 😎
Thanks 👍 Also you have no idea how many white tee's Jonno has churned through!!! He keeps buying new ones declaring 'these are my good ones' only to destroy them a few months later ;)
Fully invested in this series. I’m 2 years into a reno of an old board and batten so feeling every bit of this. Wonky floors, crooked walls, dodgy 80s builders, even windows held together by gaffer tape. Keep up the good work. The rewards at the end WILL be worth it.
Life is bizarre: rent, and spend my time watching others re-stump their house! Really enjoy a bit of can-do and competence, though, and I find it quite satisfying 🙄 Well done again, and as someone who has designed a few outdoor areas for young children, I would put in a vote for a decent-sized deck that is completely surrounded by a lower level of decking that acts as the step on all sides: you don't need any railings and the step acts as a seat for a small child, and the deck as a seat for the adults. Great to landscape around too, with a few well-placed boulders and some native plants. I will shut up now and leave you to it.
It is quite satisfying watching hard manual labour, isn't it?! and 100% yes to having a lower level to double as seating. Agree it will also come down to the landscaping, if we make it til then! ;)
Wow what a huge job. Glad you are getting the foundations sorted now and know it will make a big difference in the long run. Love the larger deck. I would def want a lounge area and seperate dining area too if it was me. ❤
It's great that you have someone to help you and that you have all the equipment and you seem to know something about restumping. I have to replace about 19 wooden stumps and replace them with adjustable steel by myself, and I've never done it before. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The house already has some steel stumps. Some are adjustable, and some aren't. I'm not sure if I need to raise the parts of the house where the stumps need replacing. I'm thinking of doing 1 stump at a time instead of the whole lot or more than 1 at a time. I don't even know where to start 😢
Probably best to get in touch with someone who knows what they are doing local to you for some advice. It's going to depend on where you are, rules and regs local to you and what is already there. Good luck!
We had over 40mm difference from front to beck in our house. All the hardwood stumps had rotted out at ground level. We ended up paying $19k for new concrete stumps. We had workers using jack hammers just to dig the new holes! Took them a few weeks. So glad we paid for it to be done. Sub 400mm clearance in spots.
400mm clearance... man what a job! We would have loved to have paid someone to do it but our quote was almost double that (the joys of living in the middle of nowhere I guess!) Makes such a difference to have a solid - flat - foundation, can't wait to get the boards down
Was this project a huge surprise, or did you guys figure it was on the table when you bought the house? Been absolutely loving watching the progress you two (and dusty) are making.
Not a huge surprise, we knew it was on the cards but thought we had more time. TBH becoming parents was what changed things and sped up the timeline, we realised that we needed to fix the house properly for longevity. Thanks for watching!!
Looking to do this on a brick veneer small 2 bedroom house .not much room under the house 300mm to 400mm .looking to put concrete blocks down and use adjustable steel posts with adjustable bracket tops . Any advice cheers . Was quoted by local stump company 40k to do job ??? 😢
Depending on size, sounds about right price wise. Its hard work. More work if there is less access. Those adjustable screw up stumps are really good, but expensive compared to standard concrete stumps.
I’m always in absolute awe of the skills done for stuff like this. When some feminists are like “we don’t need men” 🤣🤣 show then this video and tell me how many women are doing these jobs 😛
I bought a home built in 1920. I have had 2 quotes, both start at $65,000!!! It seems excessive for a small home. One says we have to relocate, the other says we don't. No way I can affird that right now unfortunately.
@@Huntingforgeorge I will definitely be putting it off at that price. I have asked around and nobody has paid that much. Hopefully I will find someone.
We didn't bother with a structural survey for the cabin as it was quite clear that the house needed foundational repair, amongst other things, from the get go. Although we didn't quite know how bad it was, that was definitely a surprise when the stumps (or lack thereof) came out of the ground.

Jono OMG what a huge job as it progressed. Good luck with the remaining stumps.
Thank you! BIG job
Jonno, your skills are NEXT LEVEL. You and Lucy are definitely a dynamic duo.
Aw thank you!

The man does his best work in a white tee clearly. Let him have it. 😂😂😂

Haha oh the joys of old homes. How good is gaffer tape!?! ;) Good luck with your build!!!

Me too! So excited to have a deck to use over Summer this year... so many ideas!

Jono - "It's and old house", 1983.
Me - Mine in London is from 1907. 😂
ooooh we love old homes!! 1907 sounds delightful

Jonno my hero! now i feel like i wanna fix my house like Jonno did.
He's my hero too just quietly ;)
Jonno blink slowly three times in the next episode if you need rescuing from all these Renos 😂

@Huntingforgeorge thanks for advice might have a go myself .just got to find a reasonable company to sell me some adjustable stumps
Do you still have the renovated house in the city ?
We do, which has come in handy when renovating the cabin
Gaffer tape the window. No worries mate 👍🏼
Problem solved! ;)
@@Huntingforgeorge 😂
Are you planning underfloor insulation given you have great clearance? 😄
Don't you worry... Jonno has done down a rabbit hole and it just seems to be getting bigger. haha
Is this up to code? I hope council is ok with it

Maybe you should tell the overseas viewers that a "Bunnings run" is a trip to Bunnings hardware store for supplies.
True true... we forget that 'Bunnings run' has become part of our everyday language ;)

Sounds about right. It’s a big job to get it done right. Not something you want to do a second time if it isn’t done correctly in the first place.
@@Huntingforgeorge I will definitely be putting it off at that price. I have asked around and nobody has paid that much. Hopefully I will find someone.
Do you guys not do structural surveys before buying a house in Australia?
This is major stuff.
We didn't bother with a structural survey for the cabin as it was quite clear that the house needed foundational repair, amongst other things, from the get go. Although we didn't quite know how bad it was, that was definitely a surprise when the stumps (or lack thereof) came out of the ground.
@@Huntingforgeorge - Thank goodness Jono is so capable or it would be very costly to get others in to fix it.
