Haresh - The difference is ! (1) The male carries a patch of white under the beak at most times. (2) The male sings with a flute and the female sings with a low constant spread when the rain falls or a pipe is opened. (3) Check between the legs and if it has no feathers then its a hen. Thats where she sit to incubate the eggs. The male carries little feathers. and (4) Most hen calls with a low pitch keck and clicks a lot in the wild. They also carries a hair like feather at the back of their head.
Shanil, I am from the Soesdyke Highway area in Guyana but now lives in Florida. I dont have any birds so I miss the action dearly. I used to go fishing and hunting in far away places in the interior and this is how I know about birds in different places. I was into birds from High School in 1958 to 1980 when I migrated to the States. I had one of the strangest bird I caught in Mahaica Savannah. Thought it was a Pico. The beak was small then I said this must be a cross between a Fire Reds and a Pico. As a brown bird he calls and clicks as a Towa Towa then when he moult he became a Black and white (like a Ring Neck). This bird was terrible so we called him "dragon" and he caught on to the Pee Pui and whipped a lot of black birds. He was the show of the area and everybody liked him. He loved to hear the Indian songs in the Rum Shops. Would spread with his wings up and more you laff he would continue with his dancing on the sticks.

Shanil, there are two things I did in the Great America. In 1988 I and two other persons started the bird thing in Queens in a Tyre Shop owned by a guy from Skeldon. He too was a bird lover. This is # 1 and # 2 is - after covering the bird with the usual black cloth it was too dark for them in the apartments, so they sang less. I said to myself let me try a white covering and this did the trick. Now I see its all over Guyana, Trinidad and Canada too. I am proud of what I did. Now everybody in Smoky Park, Queens uses a white covering. I was visiting relatives in Miami in 1988 and saw a Pet Store. Went in and the guy was from Brazil and was breeding Towa Towa and Mountain Canary. They had funny rackle, so I picked up a spots for $150:OO and the Canary for a $100: This started it off. Guyanese and Trini on passing the Tyre Shop would stop and asked questions. I told them about the shop in Miami and from then on everybody did their own thing. The Canary was a green/ grey type the one you get from the Corentyne area. Not bragging - one Sunday am in 1996 about four guys brought their canary to the Park and wanted to see the better man. I didnt bring mine so they told me to go get him. I went home and brought him. There was a blue with white under the beak, a black back with white belly and a grey/ blue with white around the eyes. These birds were all singing when I came back. As a bird man you would not put your bird there, but I did.and whip them all. Everybody started to laugh loudly. Some holding their belly and went down on the pavement. told them to go buy breakfast for every body around , and they did. My bird just went crazy - yapping !! never stopped.
