Been a massive Jon Anderson fan from the moment I heard Yours Is No Disgrace some 50 years ago, loved everything he did solo and with Vangelis. Ive also loved everything from the Corrs from day one and felt the pureness of Andrea's voice often remids me of the incredible Karen Carpenter. This is simply a wonderful version of the terrific song which does justice to the original version.
This is a wonderful rendition. The fact that these musicians are aware of Jon Anderson's brilliant catalog and willing to put the time and effort into performing it gives high marks alone, not to mention doing it well. Some of the comments below are too rough.
I’ve carried this song with me my entire adult life, since I first heard it on the dance floor in 1981. This song is completely fluid and timeless, allowing for broad emotional interpretation, and artistic orchestrations.
The only version up to tonight of this song that I have known of was the Donna Summer version in which was a favorite of mine. After hearing only the first line Andrea sang, her version quickly replaced the Donna Summer version as my now favorite. This version is so hauntingly beautiful.
Impresioannte!...qué banda!...geniales!...Andrea termina con una enorme emoción incontenible ante semejante canción!...el baterista, la violinista y la bajista se comen la canción!...una maravilla de interpretación!
In my humble opinion I believe she did a wonderful job. Donna Summer set a high standard. But Andrea brought something unique to her rendition. And I'm sure this is no easy tune to tackle...live no less. Bravo Andrea.
Well said, and I agree! I love the Donna Summer version the best, but Andrea Corr brings her own lovely, fluid voice to it and infuses it with the exalted emotion that Jon Anderson and Vangelis intended for their song.
Wow! It's rare to hear such a great cover of a Yes or Jon Anderson song. Nailed it. I like that they didn't try to just copy it, they changed it and made it their own. And most Jon Anderson cover singers just don't cut it cause he's so unique, but Andrea sounded so cool. Never heard of her but will check out more.
when you have a white angel ,singing a black angels song ,just ones wish they could have sang it together........andrea you are an angel ,beautiful xxxxxx
This is not a black angel’s song, it was written by white males Jon Anderson and Vangelis, their original is many times better than this or the Donna Summer rip off
This song was written by Jon Anderson and Vangelis...check out the UA-cam video of Jon Anderson with Todmobile performing this with an orchestra and choir. Outstanding!
i really like this song, originally from Jon Anderson, and with a different motion of the original, it brings a whole new life to the song. My respect to this woman that i just met, Andrea Corr, it's not easy to see so many quality in a cover like this one :)
There is a reason at this point in the song, but not only does is captivate you, but sound and vibration is the answer-- the truth to many ancient secrets of the world. Love is another component and along with time are the other answers to enlightenment. The answers are all here. This song by Jon and Vangleis connects with many people on another level. It should be no wonder why so many musicians and producers can feel the power to this song. The "sound" draws them (and us) to the the answers. This is why it is so spiritual.
LIEVE ANDREA WAT FIJN OM SOLO WERK TE HOREN EN WEL BEKEND VOOR MIJ JIJ WEET DAT JE OP EEN 2DF PLAATS STAAT IK BLIJF JULLIE MUZIEK SCHITEREND VINDE DANK JE WEL ANDREA VEEL LIEFDE WOUTER JOANNES
@RenassainceLizard The original was actually written by Jon Anderson and Vangelis. They recorded the song for their 'Friends of Mr. Cairo' album and it was covered by Donna Summer, Chrissie Hynde, Jon Anderson (with orchestra) and now - quite brilliantly - by Andrea Corr.
Big yes fan ...but moodswings ..spiritual high various versions with Annie Lenox or Chrissie hynde. Some with martin Luther king speech takes the song to another level
Just listened to Jon Anderson ( original and then with todmobile), Donna Summer and Chrissy Hind and now Andrea sing this number. Still no wiser as to which is my favourite.

Donna Summer's cover gave nothing special to the original version of Jon and Vangelis. It is more or less a 1 to 1 copy. But this cover is an inventive version.
i guess she's got balls. It's pretty brave to cover a song which was performed by so many talented singers like Dionne Warwick, MJ or Lionel Richie. I'm not impressed - i dont like the song in this "Corr version". But i respect her courage.
This is nothing to do with being 'white' ... this is just so poor compared to either the Jon & Vangellis original or the Donna Summer cover ... at least Donna Summer knew how to make the track work, this is just poor Karaoke
No, just no. This song is beyond Andrea Corr's vocal ability. Donna Summer(RIP) gave us a powerful version, Chrissie Hynde gave us an artists version. Andrea Corr gives us a whiny version. The line "This state of independence shall be" should hold punch and emphasis, Donna and Chrissie managed it, Andrea sounds like she strained something.
This is a Jon Anderson/Vangelis song, not a Donna Summer song, although she covered it. I'm pretty impressed with this cover. Yeah, Andrea is a little too up-tempo here and needs a little help with her breathing between lines, but the musicianship is damn good, especially the bass line.
Been a massive Jon Anderson fan from the moment I heard Yours Is No Disgrace some 50 years ago, loved everything he did solo and with Vangelis. Love this song, especially the Jon and Vangelis original. This version is brilliant too.
This is a wonderful rendition. The fact that these musicians are aware of Jon Anderson's brilliant catalog and willing to put the time and effort into performing it gives high marks alone, not to mention doing it well. Some of the comments below are too rough.
Had zero idea the Corrs did a version of this amazing song. Knocked it out of the park. Now I'm gonna have to explore more of what they've done. 😁😁
I’ve carried this song with me my entire adult life, since I first heard it on the dance floor in 1981. This song is completely fluid and timeless, allowing for broad emotional interpretation, and artistic orchestrations.
Listen to the bass behind the vocalist - it is wonderful.
wonderful rendition of a wonderful song
RIP DONNA SUMMER... Andrea Corr 's version of State of Independence is truly amazing and powerful just like Donna S.
its a Jon And Vangelis song btw.
This wonderful song fits her like a glove
Very, very nice. Talent and so glad this song will always live. These ladies and this band has super talent.
hell yes.....you would have to go a long way to find a more solid bass
All are great versions! My personal favorite is Jon Anderson with todmobile!
Brilliant...raw edge sound..Andrea IS the real deal!
I love Yes, but this is the best version of this song, even the Donna Summer version!
Well done! Really great version. Andrea is wonderful. I loved the Corrs
The only version up to tonight of this song that I have known of was the Donna Summer version in which was a favorite of mine. After hearing only the first line Andrea sang, her version quickly replaced the Donna Summer version as my now favorite. This version is so hauntingly beautiful.
You need to hear the original Jon Anderson version
Also, the Chrissie Hynde version is the equal of any.
I thought the same until a comment lead me to Chrissy hynde. Brilliant version to.
boring dribble compared to donna summer , watch her live version singing with her daughter, uplifting amazing effortless talent
hear the original by Jon and Vangelis.
Great how she builds into the song soft then getting more powerful spot on
well done with the bass
Slow-building and excellent ! A fine interpretation.
Wonderful! This was on Ascension Day 2011 in a Chapel, and I can really feel the spirit in this one!
How is it possible that there is only 108K views (~0.5K is mine) and only 533 like?
This song and this version never gets old.
Impresioannte!...qué banda!...geniales!...Andrea termina con una enorme emoción incontenible ante semejante canción!...el baterista, la violinista y la bajista se comen la canción!...una maravilla de interpretación!

Bravo Andrea.
yep.... it annoys me too.... Jon and Vangelis: They did this First !.... but it is high praise that others cover it :O)
Donna's version is much better than the original.
Well said, and I agree! I love the Donna Summer version the best, but Andrea Corr brings her own lovely, fluid voice to it and infuses it with the exalted emotion that Jon Anderson and Vangelis intended for their song.
JON FUCKING ANDERSON.
The Motown Bass lines are the real X factor to this verion
Nice, nice, nice. Happy New Year for all !!! From Brazil.
Wonderful. JA would be happy with this.
I can only think that Jon Anderson would be more that pleased to see his song being given this magnificent treatment.
Great rockin’ version of this Jon & Vangelis classic!
That bass player just makes this version
The bass riff becomes the heartbeat for the whole song! Brilliant performance by all of the musicians.
Who is the bass player, she’s brilliant
AWESOME PERFORMANCE....
wobderfull flow my tears Andrea is marvellous

All true.
Been a fan of this song since I heard Donna Summer's version, Like Chrissie Hynde's version and now the Corrs...it's a great song.
This is fucking incredible.
Wow.
Great tribute to the phenomenal Donna Summer.

Excelente composicion de Jon Anderson ,un verdadero genio.-
This is sooooo good its silly!
Just listened to Jon Anderson ( original and then with todmobile), Donna Summer and Chrissy Hind and now Andrea sing this number. Still no wiser as to which is my favourite.
Umm, this would not be my usual fare, but have to admit this is very good.
This is not your parents Corrs. Andrea proves she can do so much more.
RIP Donna
beautiful song by Jon and Vangelis
muito bom
Existe algo que ainda não foi dito de Andrea Corr??? FANTASTIC!!!
You should coma across the pond and be on Austin City Limits!
Had to watch this twice,,,
A very nice cover of Jon Anderson's song he wrote with Vangelis. Checkout the Todmobile's version with Jon himself singing.

Wie zegt u? Donna Summer? Nooit van gehoord.

Why can't she hit the same notes as jon anderson. Just doesn't soar the same way as his version does.
State of independence song fit to andrea than donna summer
I love the song anyway and this version not to shabby ❤
Donna Summer blows her out of the water on this song. Christie Hynde also.
Oh Mann ist die version schei. . . . ! Es lebe Donna Summer !
The highest Standard was setted be Jon Anderson ....nevertheless a good Interpretation 👍
Jon Anderson is the king of this song with a orchestra in all it's glory. His version is like flowing water. Serene & majestic. Nice try.
i guess she's got balls. It's pretty brave to cover a song which was performed by so many talented singers like Dionne Warwick, MJ or Lionel Richie. I'm not impressed - i dont like the song in this "Corr version". But i respect her courage.
MJ covered this song ??
well she's pretty...
Reasonable effort to change the song up but Donna and Jon's versions are far superior.
This is nothing to do with being 'white' ... this is just so poor compared to either the Jon & Vangellis original or the Donna Summer cover ... at least Donna Summer knew how to make the track work, this is just poor Karaoke
Rubbish Rick
chrissie hyndes is the best! this stinks!!
Ewww...
No comparison. Sorry ...her voice isn't strong to carry this song. And I cant stand all the silly jigging about and arm waving she does. Its false.
No, just no.

Dude, try some decaf!
