Talk about women in real power. In brightness, intelligence and extremely God gifted. And so many great writers and thinkers that happened to be women... Madame Staël, Susan Sontag, Anne Sexton, Silvia Plath, the Austen sisters, Elfriede Jelinek, Anne Munro, Svetlana Alexievich, Carmen Boullosa, Joyce Carol Oates, Berta Müller, María Zambrano, Morrison...etc etc etc
Interesting how she pinned down America's thirst for "leadership" over democracy back in 1992. Charlie Rose was halfway thru saying "strongman". Yeah that about sums it up. Interesting how she also mentioned the lack of connection with voters in the two parties. That's what happens when they pretty much ignore the voters while throwing them distractions and aim to keep their focus on the other party's wrongdoing. Watching this... well it was inevitable that after decades of being ignored, voters became more extreme in their views. It's not the total cause for the current problems, but it's the driving force.
...Sometimes I can't help but wonder: What ROLE The DEMOCRATS had in Setting Up the Dumpster as a Strongman? After all, it has Completely DEFLECTED ANY Scrutiny of Pelosi's Turning the Legislative Branch into HOUSE Of INSIDER TRADING!!! (Meanwhile, Pelosi's Iron FIST KEEPS SQUASHING PROGRESSIVES!!
She did not seem to mind his interruptions. They did not have the option of a long interview and he seemed to know her thoughts well enough that nothing was lost. Her verbal thoughts are not as poignant as the written ones anyway.
why was she so shy and lost with words, doesn't she talk about power and speaking your voice, she was so empty in opinions and words, what a waste of interview, if the interviewer interrupt often, you speak louder..
Lowbudget Soop any interview, if considered poor, is always the fault of the interviewer, never the interviewee. Rose either underprepared for the meaningful probing of, or could not keep pace with, (or both) Didion’s genius.

First read Joan Didion’s “Play It As It Lays” in august 2021 - and I was blown away! A brilliant writer and woman, RIP Joan Didion ❤️
I assigned this for my lit courses -- so glad you enjoyed it!

Please read "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" and "The White Album" too. You'll be doubly blown away.
@@nigelprance2540 studying English at uni - would love to have a unit based around Joan Didion’s writing!
@@MTMF.london they’re on my bookshelf just haven’t got round to reading them yet, I can’t read more than one book at a time for some reason 😅
I’ve never heard her speak before; she had a beautiful voice.
From the same town, but different times. And I’ve never heard her speak before. What a calming sound.
Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful interviews.
I’ve never read anyone who writes better than Joan didion . Her novels particularly are thrillingly put .
RIP Joan Didion

Would be nice of him to let her answer and elaborate her points. Man-splaining and impatient.
Should have let her smoke.
Such a great writer and what an interesting family she had
Joan was trying to take the time she needed to express herself and complex ideas and Charlie Rose kept interruptng her, terrible interview by him.
Rose is talking all over her and trying to show off how much he knows.
All his interviews are like this. I remember Donna Tartt’s being particularly bad
For such a brilliant writer she could barley get a thought out. CR had to move this along. She stuttered through most of it.
@@TheCBKgirlShe was well known as someone who had very little to say other than in her writings.
Respect for this writer
Man, she writes like I think! I’m in her thoughts are all zigzag like mine. Very moving writer

Elegance at its finest🖤
Ah, they don't match at all... She speaks in silence.
Remind me again - why did this guy have an interview show? Joan Didion deserves a smarter interviewer.
He seemed to connect with her pretty well
What a woman. What a complete loss.
This whole interview gives me the most severe secondhand social anxiety.
Why?
R.I.P Queen of California.
Dude let her talk. Who is this guy?
RIP J.D. 😔💗
Didion predicted the America that years after would elect Trump.
Where’s the next part?

Joan Didion and Charley Rose
Not in control of the interview is she
I dont think this is from 1992 as she looks much older than 57 here.
It is indeed from 1992.
Nice

I believe he must have wanted to become engulfed in nicotine, alcohol, and pills.
@@nomiddlenamenmn427 hum, I can't say I'd blame him. All in one package
And then Charlie asked Joan if she wanted to see his happenis 😳

No he didn't.
Quit spreading lies, ya bloody immature troll!
@@ainasaid902no, it’s just bullshit! This troll is fucking lying and making shit up.

I am here because of Olivia Rodrigo 😊
Wow, what a terrible interview.
She didn't do to well in this interview.
I Agree, she must be a better writer than speaker. I was lost during the interview it was a lack of complete thought during questioning.
She always interviews like this. Sketchy..
baba free She doesn't have a ghost writer if that's what you're thinking but drugs can make you write some amazing stuff.
Lowbudget Soop any interview, if considered poor, is always the fault of the interviewer, never the interviewee. Rose either underprepared for the meaningful probing of, or could not keep pace with, (or both) Didion’s genius.
That’s how many introverts are-better at writing than interviews.
