I know this is basically a commercial, but actually helpful for packing a bike.

Good to be back in the workshop (and looking remarkably fresh) after a hard week in Canada.

I have used bike flights, since it started in 2009, to ship bikes I sold on eBay.
It was always a positive experience.

I've shipped bikes many times but always used ShipBikes Air Caddy box (minimal bike disassembly); all those bikes have been road bikes or gravel bikes (nothing large). This method looks very interesting as I now have a large-ish bike to deal with. Thanks!

Yeah, Bikeflights makes an XXL box that only requires removing the front when shipping a road/gravel bike. Pretty impressive!

Never have, nor do I plan to ever ship a bike, however those boxes look so nifty and convenient compared to the videos I've seen using a random box

I used bikeflights to ship a bike to an event in the Northeast - I live in the Seattle area. I dropped the bike off at a shop, who packed an shipped it via BikeFlights. Unfortunately, they swapped labels between my bike and someone elses. My bike ended up in California and the other bike went to Boston. Needless to say I missed my event (and so did the other person). I realize the mistake was on the local bike shop, but I was rather surprised that BikeFlights wouldn't even entertain the idea of helping resolve the issue including claiming no responsibility to help coordinate finding the bike and getting it returned. It took me a week to figure out what happened. I went to pick up my bike and had no idea why the guy handed me a red size small Specialized Allez (I shipped a XL black/red BMC Road Machine). The guy at the shop was just as confused as I was. I tried to call bikeflights, and they wouldn't even take my call. I finally gave up and flew home (I left the 'wrong' bike in Boston). I went to the shop when I got home and told them what happened. After a few days they finally admitted they had two bikeflights shipments that day and and they must of reversed the labels. They were apologetic, but wouldn't even consider helping me get my bike back. I got the name of the shop it was shipped to, and finally, after a couple of days got in touch with someone who knew where my bike was. I explained what happened and hired them to return my bike to me. I suspect the other party had a similar experience. After a month, I finally got my bike back. I have no idea if/when the other party
The moral of this story is, if you use bikeflights and things don't go as planned, don't expect them to be of any assistance. You are on your own to deal with whoever actually handles the bike, labels and ships it and receives it, etc.... all on your own.

That's so weird. We had an issue with UPS losing my bike on my way to race Iceman Cometh in Michigan last year and Bikeflights assigned someone to the case and coordinated with UPS to get it to me in time for my race. I wonder if they realized the importance of helping when things go wrong (like your example) and have changed the level of support they provide.

@@sydfixesbikes I thought it was strange as well. So much so that I left a couple of negative reviews. Something I rarely do. I actually got an email from an executive with the company, and was flabbergasted that he stood firm on their position. It wasn't their problem, and asked me to remove the negative reviews. Still no offer to help, and not even a half hearted apology.
I've not had the opportunity to use them since, and I'm willing to accept that this could have been an anomaly.

Hey Syd, just a quick question I’ve been seeing videos and checking out different scenarios for shipping my bike to Mexico, I’m flying on JetBlue. Have you had any experience flying on JetBlue with your bike? My scenario is I’m moving to Mexico in a few months so I’m doing a quick trip in a couple weeks and my plan was to box up my bike and bring it with me in checked baggage and I can’t get a definitive answer from anyone at JetBlue whether I can actually take the bike in a box. Not sure if you’ve encountered any issues like that. Thank you.

Looks like there will be an extra $100 fee but you can fly with your bike. Cardboard box will be fine.
