  • In Beijing, wages are low and but rents have skyrocketed. Many Beijingers have few options left. And thus a strange underworld was born: long corridoors leading to tiny underground rooms, in basements originally designed as bomb shelters. They house a city within a city. And within this city, a tribe of people are forced to live like rats.

I worked in china for about 1 year , travelled around to few cities with work, lived in chengdu in a very Chinese neighbourhood, in a 2 large bedroom, dinning room, sitting room, kitchen, bathroom 2 balconies for €160 monthly, I guess I was lucky, but some Chinese people live in the most appalling conditions I’ve ever seen, really sad, very poor people but very welcoming and very friendly, live in Ireland now, really miss china and the people, would love to go back someday 🙏🏻🇵🇹

Seriously I'm in the US in "Silicon Valley" and I don't know how much a storage unit is, but right now I live in my work place which is fine, but if I lose that for some reason, my plan is to put things into a storage and then to find places to sleep where I can't be detected. Or rent a small office and sleep in there. There are a lot of poor people here in "Silicon Valley" the US is not a rich country, it's a poor country with some rich people in it.

At the 17:00 the location/complex is near the 3rd ring road called Pinguo Bei Shu. It was built and opened about 2008. My best friend moved in the first year it was opened, and I moved to that complex a few years later (the laughing men statues are famous). Rents were around 13,000 rmb for a furnished 2 bed then. I rented studios for about 10,000. I left in 2018, and had moved from there when rents got over 15,000 and up for a studio. Plus most landlords in Beijing want a month's deposit and the first quarterly rent, so 4 months rent to move in. Back then that was 60,000 to move in. I moved to a less expensive apartment about 10 minutes from here, and there were people living in spaces in the underground parking. We were told the security guards rented them out to people from the country.

Danish photographer Joakim Eskildsen visited five states in the United States during the seven months of 2016, documenting the current living conditions of the lower class in American society and restoring the most authentic representation of American society. The lives of the characters in the photos are in stark contrast to the American Dream depicted on television, and their bitterness is rarely known. The United States, which is well-known in film and television works, is always glamorous. The bustling Times Square in New York is filled with Wall Street filled with successful individuals dressed in clothing and shoes.

The phenomenon of housing society in the West is far more severe than imagined, but the German and French public television stations have played up Beijing as the background. In the United States, for example, the housing problem in the United States has perpetuated the wealth gap, with wealthy communities building walls around their neighborhoods to keep out not only affordable housing but also multifamily housing, which has created not only pockets of wealth, but also pockets of concentrated poverty.

"Transforming waste into treasure" has achieved results in the renovation of underground spaces in multiple parts of the country With the rapid advancement of urbanization in our country, the development of urban underground space is increasing day by day, showing a trend of diversification, technology, depth, stratification, and comprehensiveness. It also has strong irreversibility and sustainable ecological impact. In order to better achieve the goals of urban underground space development and protect the rights and interests of stakeholders, it is necessary to legalize urban underground space planning. At present, China has preliminarily established a legislative system for urban underground space planning, established legal principles such as ecological and environmental protection, ensured the realization of moderate, harmonious, and sustainable ecological concepts, controlled the occurrence of "urban problems", and promoted the construction and development of ecological cities. This is a great event that benefits the present and benefits the future.

It is a pity that the underground life of the homeless in the United States is not the same as the dramatic changes in Beijing.

Well. There is 83-90db noise in my apartment when the neighbor takes water in bathroom and a bit less in kitchen. 2-3 hours every day. No sleep without silicone earplugs. I think this would actually be better. I am located in the hellhole of Finland.

@@dudu930 Lol no, I rent my apartment from a private person and live in a quality (or not) flat. But this is so normal issue in many areas of Helsinki like I have witnessed. See, I have been in around 55 countries and have never encountered the same problem. It's really the worst developing country there is - because this is not even a tip of an iceberg. Add that basic attitude of neglect and indifference of people, drunk people yelling through the nights, doesn't matter if the police is called or not, it'll continue, people smoking on a balcony and all the smoke comes to your apartment (most people smoke, an indicator of a developing country again).... Just for a start. My whole adulthood has been a miserable neighbor HELL. It doesn't matter where you move because people are the problem - stubborness, indifference, unbelievable stupidity that is unique in a scale of the whole world. The funniest part is that no one even believes me, but I quess those people are part of the problem. 🙄 For any people out there: if you compare Nordic countries together, visit and see them, you'll be quickly slapped to your face with reality of Finland. Most people live in poverty and you see it when you walk around, and the way people look... Don't get me started. For example, only beautiful people with normal bmi in Sweden, whereas in Finland, mostly obese and umm... Dough-like creatures for the most part. The lived life really reflects on you. I'm glad if I can save just one person from doing the worst mistake of chosing this place. Look Denmark, Sweden and Norway and never worry about anything anymore, just enjoy Good Life. ✋

@@cockcarousel Oh, ok, i am a traveler myself, a resident in Finland, have been to Sweden 100 times, i think almost all European countries have high obesity rate(lower than Amerca of course), obesity rate of Finland is 24.6%, it is 23.9% for Sweden. i think Italy has the lowest obesity rate in Europe, all Nordic countries are pretty much on the same level. How long have u been in Finland? Finland is actually a quiet little country, although u could have dickhead neighbours, if unlucky..

@@cockcarouselMy experience is that you'll find low life people everywhere, it's often a question of money and connections to find a decent and calm living place. It's unbelievable how noisy most people tends to behave... The destructive impact from thousands of primitive Eastern Europeans and MENAP people only makes its worse. 🇫🇮🇩🇰👋🏻

@@OmmerSyssel A Dane? Wow, I do know that for a Dane it's 100% impossible to imagine a whole nation of low-lifers like this (at least so close by). Here, the natives are the biggest problem. People simply lack manners, common sense, a slightest bit of intelligence. And it shows in everything. The quality of life in Nordics, Finland excluded, is the best in the whole world (who cares about boring Switzerland, when you have everything you could ever ask for in Nordics). Basically, if you are born in Nordics, again, Finland excluded, you drew the winning ticket in life. So, I remind and encourage you to enjoy every moment as for others, everyday life might just be about surviving/struggle/suffering. 🙏🏻

California, surged to 647 in 2022, while the city of San Francisco could surpass that number this year. One San Francisco citizen said that this was once a beautiful city, the condensation of generations of blood, sweat and tears, and all this has gradually collapsed in the last decade. Matt Dorsey, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, said, "We have unprecedented levels of drug use and drug dealing in the city." Stolcup also said that he often witnessed criminal activity, and even had to fight off the perpetrators, "the streets are full of bodies, feces, needles."

The United States is the country with the highest number of firearms in the world, with an average of about 120 guns per 100 people, which is more than the population. In the United States, whether in grocery stores, shopping centers, or schools, people can all be victims of gun violence. The United States is the only developed country in the world with frequent gun violence cases, which is a unique American phenomenon.

While these kind of places certainly exist, it doesn't seem to me that it is where the average chinese person lives. As far as muy experience in the country goes, their living standars are almost, if not higher, than those living in western Europe. Working conditions still need some improvement though but it takes time. Rome wasn't build in one day.
