  • In this short picture slideshow we take a look at a bike I captured back in 2010 and this is a machine that was built by "Maico Only" when they were based here in the UK and this is Calum Sangster's S1 250 Twinshocker.

Great looking bike. Maico 81-83 were my favorites.

I have one of these, got it back in 2012 from Macio Only. Never even put fuel in it. Use to sit in my man cave, now it sits in storage

    Nice bike,
    Why did the motor seize?
Did it have an air leak or was the carb jetted to lean?
I have an 83 490 Spider that I bought from a friend in 84. After he raced it for a year and worked all the bugs out, Great Bike

Don’t know the exact reason for the motor locking up but I’m sure because the conditions were heavy and muddy the carb was jetted to lean with too a small main jet for the conditions. But it was a long drawn out affair for Calum to get the bike repaired by M.O and I’m sure he sold the bike soon after.

The other thing I forgot to mention is the low end bearing.
      I don’t know about the 250 but the 490 likes a 20 to 1 pre-mix.
I tried running the bike on Bel-Ray at 50 to 1 and seized the low end bearing riding in the desert.
      Great program,
Brings back a lot of memories riding, racing and wrenching back in the 70s and 80s in So-Cal.
