My beautiful town of Lucca!! Going back if I can in April!
I was there exactly the same time in 2017. Glad I didn't go to the Stone's concert! I hear it was just packed at the mote greens. People were having a hard time moving around and stuck there for hours!

It was a crazy time! Out flat was on the north side and it wasn’t too bad. We just used the bicycles and didn’t even try to use the car…but actually I don’t think the concert visitors ever really discovered the underground parcheggio Mazzini… or they weren’t willing to walk that far.

kind of weird to take footage of a beautifu! ita!ian town and !ink it with the death of two peop!e. the connection is very tenuous. perhaps it is a reminder how f!eeting !ife is?

It is what happened that year, and it colored everything else. The procession of lights, the entire religious ceremony was almost cancelled. The deaths sparked local debate about why the Festa was still being celebrated (Lucca is no longer a very observant Roman Catholic city). Since then, most of the festival lights on buildings are now mandated to be electric, rather than the individually-lit candles of the past.
Lucca is struggling with issues created by its becoming more and more of a tourist attraction. The traditional shops are disappearing and being replaced with dozens of gelaterias, brand outlets and mini-marts. Most of the city's churches and neighborhood chapels have been shuttered.
As the grandson of someone who was raised there, and who has been there for extended stays since 1964 (including winter months), and who has watched my older relatives grow old and die there, let me say that it is not just a place that exists to be picturesque for summer visitors. This video wasn't trying to paint a rosy picture, and I don't take that approach with my paintings of Lucca either.
