    I had a bilateral lung transplant 86 days ago. I'm doing great but life will never be the same. I just HAD to see what exactly they did. I'm surprised it didn't hurt WORSE! The scar is not pretty but I won't be in a bikini any time soon!
    Thank you doctors and nurses for all you do!!!

    This is amazing. Surgeons are amazing. I was so intrigued how you fill the lungs with blood for oxygenation on without getting air to avoid embolisms. The answer is so obvious but Im so amazed that this actually works.

    I had my double lung transplant 9/23/2016. Wow I didn’t know so much was involved in the actual surgery. I am so glad I found this. Next month I will be celebrating 4 years. Thanks to my God, my donor and all my doctors. God is good all the time.

    So very impressive! I've always wondered about the pleura and how it is repaired and able to manage a constant pressure variable while healing. The chance for a pneumothorax seems high here!

      I am now nearly 3 months post transplant. I was transplanted in Louisville, Kentucky at Jewish Hospital on 7/11/20. I spent 10 days in the hospital, and am able to do things that I haven't for years. God found a perfect set of lungs for me. I thank Him daily for the gift of life. These are a young never smoked or drugged pair of lungs. I am so humbled, and forever grateful.

    How can a body recover from this. How can heal and accept someone else’s lungs? What’s the margin of celular rejection ? What pain the patient experience afterwards?

    • @PLA69
      @PLA69 3 роки тому +9

      They receive medication which prevents the body from rejecting a donated organ. I've heard they are kept in a coma for two to five days to heal a bit before they wake up. The pain must be severe afterwards but manageable with medication. I don't know about cellular rejection but one of the issues is rehabilitating breathing muscles. The body responds well to new lungs but you lose strength being in comma and doing that kind of surgery.

    Someone I knew suffered from pulmonary fibrosis. She passed away and in the end, she was in a very bad condition. After watching this video I’m wondering if she could’ve lung transplant too. She was on trial drugs that really helped her for two years but anyway, probably the drugs stopped working for her. In this video, the girl had cystic fibrosis which I’m sure must be different condition but still it was fibrosis and her condition was related to lungs too. That’s the reason I’m thinking if transplant is a possibility in case the patient is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis.
