Blizzard spring instantly to mind watching this vid. Not so much for their micro transactions (yet) but for the carrot on a stick tactics they universally employ.
Why do people enslave themselves like this? Just ask yourself "am I having fun, or is this an addiction", and then walk away if necessary. "Sunken cost" is such a stupid concept... we can't turn back time, we cannot get any younger, and each day could be our last... but if we let the past drag us down, we will waste precious time. If you have done some shit in your past, the worst thing you can do is let that shit stick to your shoes for the rest of your life and go deeper into the swamp.
In my humble opinion. If you look at any digital purchase as a "investment" you loose. You do it because you love the game. Choose to play it over hundreds of other choices. Its up to you to say no. I spent hundreds on mw wz in skins, but the moment I saw people under the map, I uninstalled. Told my teammate that was the final straw and haven't played cod since. SC is unfortunately to that point for me. Main issue is game crashing when I QT with cargo. Full cat of stuff I personally mined from the halo. Just poof. Gone. My shirt was red and I felt like I was missing a toe. It hurts my will to continue playing. Definitely not paying for any ships. So far I've only spent 175 total, and I won't be spending anymore. Not until I see physical hangers or whatever. If I can get that. I'd be content for I'd say a year before i started questioning the slow progression again. Im simple. All i want is to load up a cargo ship. in peace, with nothing but salvage and mined resources. Go sell without my game crashing. It's soul crushing. I won't touch fps pvp untill the invisible player thing is fixed. That was a issue for three months in tarkov recently so I feel for the people that put up with that crap. I wouldn't. The moment I got dropped by someone invisible. I stopped playing for said three months
Mike talking about Ultima Online... Remember the relationship between Ultima Online and Star Citizen. Origin Games, Chris Roberts started there with Wing Commander.
The UO example made no sense for the context of the conversation. The BOD system existed solely as a lottery bonus to provide additional systems outside of pure peddling of wares to other players and was not influenced by in-game microtransactions at all. Your impatience led you to RMT, instead of setting up crafting guilds to exchange BODs with each other or simply playing the market to find the specific ones you needed while selling the ones you didn't. You personally chose to go outside of the system itself to lower the integrity of the game by choosing to RMT in that scenario due to impatience, to "win", then subsequently complain about paying to win.
You buy it. You use it in an attempt to improve special payed for gear. It breaks. Special gear gone. Improvement item gone. Spend more. Wash, rinse, repeat. SHIA!!!
use to play a mobile p2w game called wartune for like 7 years. I knew some whales in the game and they would get mad when the game didnt release new shit(gear, mounts etc) on a regular schedule. to them they had the money so for them the fun was being maxed out and fighting the other whales from the other servers in special events that ran once a month.
21:40 This reminds me a bit of what BSG said about Tarkov and cheating, it isn't that they don't want to address the issue of cheating but doing so for them mean taking a conscious decision to lose a lot of profit.
Reminds of so many games it's disgusting. Then I look at my bank account and how much I've falling for some of it. Dragon Prohpet (my worst experience with P2W), Wow, Swtor, SC and others.. /shrug.
@15:22 didn't Tony Z work on Ultima? I think it was VII and not Online, though. Maybe. All this said, the point of F2P is that if you have more time than money, you grind. If you have more money than time, you spend. And of course the company will try to entice and bludgeon the first into becoming the second whether they can afford it or not (kind of like churches...)
I'm so disappointed. No Mans Sky doesn't have any micro-transactions. I feel really cheated. 20 upgrades and I can't spend any additional money on the game. Good thing SC makes up the difference.
Not really Star Citizen model. There model is not pay to when, it's pay to wait. But at least they never say the game is free. You do have to pay to start unlike many of the mobile games that say free to pay, but your plagued with popup ads, and the need to purchase items to enable you to win, thus "Pay to Win".
SC players have a habbit of getting used to the game as it is now, much like the fast moment BS in video. as we advance the game twards the vision CR wanted to begin, people freak out that they are making the game worse to force you into buying a larger ship. I just dont feel that its intentional, just a side effect of the process. im very content flying my pisces and earning everything in game.
Unfortunately, Mike's logic in trying to fit this to suit SC mechanics doesn't really work; for an Aurora to go across the system, that would mean all ships would need to be the exact same specs and never do anything different from each other. These type of games don't have the ability to buy certain necessities using in-game credits, one can only buy certain things with cash, including all the stuff that gives you buffs for XP and luck.
Star Citizen is not pay to win, it's pay to dream about winning 😂 To be honest, SC is a one time expensive purchase, there are only so many ships you can buy, in other MMO you just keep spending and it's never enough
we have no idea what CIGs "post launch" monetization plans will be aside from skins and still selling ingame money and if they are really going by their word (whatever that is worth these days) and stop selling ships after launch, which is ironic considering according to CIG themselves the game is already "released" whenever someone demands a refund.
pay to imagine - this had me in hysterics
Chris Roberts bank balance says pay to win is the best model
one more missing pay2win idea is to give you a cute and cuddly pet companion but their food can only be bought with real money
Star Citizen is Pay 2 be in Denial...
Blizzard spring instantly to mind watching this vid. Not so much for their micro transactions (yet) but for the carrot on a stick tactics they universally employ.
Blizzard went straight to macro transactions, a single horse armor in D4 costs as much as the entire D3 addon.
Why do people enslave themselves like this? Just ask yourself "am I having fun, or is this an addiction", and then walk away if necessary.

which is why this type of games are compared to gambling because gambling targets the same psychological effect
Need to get with this dude to develop "Pay 2 Win Two: Monetization Rising", but do it in UE5.3 with actual classes and stuff.
That is why I quit Nova Empire.... Then I started Star Citizen and now I have access to the "CHAIRMAN'S CLUB"... I did not learn a thing 😖😭😭😅

New SC players aren't aware that they're actually purchasing a 30K simulator.
“Fuck you too the moon Arthus, fuck you too the moon” 😂 Flashbacks over here… 😂

Sc has this nailed: Pay to Imagine!! Good one Mike. Sadly, Brandon is right, we should not upset the whales, as 1 whale equals many plebs.
But do the whales even play the game?
@@HarenunHoppus Not like regular folks, they do screenshot simulator events, private ship shows, and play the game on Spectrum.
@@HarenunHoppusyou never been pirated?
@@spartamerican6758 i tend to pvp, much more fun.
@@HarenunHoppus it's all pvp? Wtf are you even saying?
RuneScape has all these schemes inside it and probably a few more.
"Whales is The reason why The game is bad"
They are also The reason why The game is still founded.
CCU means keep players dreaming about bigger ships who eventually purchase them in a game that doesn't exist.

Well, this was utterly depressing with how many parallels there is to Star Citizen...
P2I new business model indeed you nailed if PAY TO IMAGINE :D
This is pretty much every single game now. 😂 😭
I purchased the prospector to get a money making advantage. They nerfed it and now I need a mole. Pay 2 Win!
CIG / you can buy the ships ingame but gone in the first wipe. Reason I don't think wipes are ever going away. 😐
The day the wipes end, their house of cards will crumble.
@@mbg4681 the wipes wont be needed cause pvp and people crashing and looseing gear ships so on will balance it XD
Now I feel like I need a shower... 😰
Notice CIG refuses to implement an active player counter. There are more "alts" than active accounts. The vers is a LOT smaller than you think

Pay to imagine 😂
next we should make a game called "it's not p2w because there is no pvp" and it's impossible but you can pay 1 dollar to skip to the end screen
Not sure what Mikes ultimate argument is reg SC. Just to go full subscriber model right now?

Yeah, I haven't spent any money on SC in three years or so.
Aslong I can steal large ships like reclaimer, hammerhead and 890, star citizen is not pay to win ^^
can someone tell me where i would submit a video for reaction?
I actually think that what mike is highlighting here is that Star Citizen is just a glorified mobile game
Think about it
.....errr,,,,,is this Voidy?
Its fucking Shia!!!
Pay to imagine hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
lol, this video is a gold nugget.
Stuff like this disgusts me so much. It makes me ill.
I'm so disappointed. No Mans Sky doesn't have any micro-transactions. I feel really cheated. 20 upgrades and I can't spend any additional money on the game. Good thing SC makes up the difference.
haha....didn't we just go over this pay to win CIG thing? I'm only worried that the game will be fully pay to win upon release....
well inkow somebody that has spend 20k $ on candy Crush..

Good video but the comparisons you made to SC were a bit of a stretch at times.
SC is kinda pay to pirate...
p2i Pay2Imagine 🤣🙄😒 Yeah I am going to keep that coinage 😋

the vanity of small differences
Everyone don't play Trainstation 2 mobile hahahaha
I stopped playing raid shadow because of this... you can tell me not p2 win but it is lol 0£ spent...
