      There's a problem with that scene though. The donuts is what draws attention and makes people compliment Knight, while in reality anyone can make donuts like that, especially the plain ones without countersteering. The real skillful driving was the Gymkhana between tanks, and it was some really decent driving. It would have been better if Michael started from making donuts, the people from Armourbuilt comment that he's an idiot, and then he goes to Gymkhana between tanks for which he would be complimented.

    Thank you so so much for playing that music Joe, like many here I’ve always loved it too and it was really great to hear it intact.
    I’ve always been very fond of Buy Out, it has some of the best stunt driving and action set pieces of the entire series.
    Plus when I first saw this in February 1998 on Channel 5, I had finally gotten my hands on my own vhs recorder for my bedroom. The added bonus was that my remote aerial picked up Channel 5 a lot lot better than the main tv house aerial did, so I was able to finally watch Knight Rider with a crystal clear picture and record it too. So yeah this episode got watched a lot back then 🙂📼

    Another great commentary on another great episode,Joe,really like this one....so lets see....the poor RHBD car,it certainly was in the wars in Junkyard Dog,glad they repaired him and yes i always noticed the bumper was never upgraded...whoever wore the orange jacket in the RHBD car didnt learn from his mistake as we see it again in The Scent of Roses when KITT pics Micheal up at the hospital,and he sits down in the seat and you see the orange arm..again,someone watching the dailies must have seen the orange arms and thought, we cant use that footage,but they did...oh and that piece of music is my phone ringtone....looking forward to the next one...

    The California sunshine plate started being issued in 1983 as series number 2AAA. It was overlapped with the blue-yellow plate series 1AAA from 1980. The sunshine plate was by special order only until the last blue plates was issued by the end of 1985. Sunshine plates went to a plain reflective white-blue plate with a red centered California script around 2FZZ by 1987. Just started issuing 9AAA plates this year.

    • @hillstones
      @hillstones 2 роки тому

      The white Sunshine plate also coincided with the special order white 1984 Olympic plate since the Olympics were in Los Angeles that year. I’ve seen some 8Zxx plates and waiting to catch a glimpse of a 9Axx plate. It takes about 5 years to go through each numbered cycle. I wonder what new sequence will be used after 9ZZZ999.

    • @LAmonk76
      @LAmonk76 2 роки тому

      @@hillstones The 84 Olympic plate was for that year only with the L.A. Olympic logo on the left side? of the plate and did not have the sunshine band on top. The next series will prob flip the number to AAA1. That was done in the spring of 1980 when the last 6 digit OOOZZZ blue-plates from 1970-80 flipped back to the 63-69 AAA OO1 black-plate as 1AAA. Takes about 4-5 years for a series to complete with a few details in some series past.

    as soon as you mentioned something about a song so many asked about, i immediately thought "now dont tell me this song will come up now that i myself spent years asking several musicians who are more into "guitar music" than myself if they could identify it"
    and sure enough, it was exactly that piece. so nice!
    as maybe many others i was always sure it was just another popular 80s rock song their cover band used and i was just unable to find it. some of the people i asked suggested "blue öyster cult - don't fear the reaper" comes close and ideed it does, but close dont count.
    now that an expert on knight rider finally confirmed its not a cover but made for this episode, i can mentally put the issue to rest ^^ and live with the excellent "full lenght" version provided here :-P

    Hello there... I am currently watching all my Knight Rider DVDs again. I have spotted a couple of things, the more I watch. In one episode, KITT has to come to Michael's rescue and you see the gear shift moving into Reverse, but KITT moves forward and vice versa. You also see KITT having to Turbo Boost, but you see a human's hand pressing the button. I have also noticed some scenes of the Semi trailer where it is normally a gold knight insignia with gold striping towards the middle of the trailer and some scenes where the insignia is silver/white in colour and further back on the trailer. I am seeing more things as I go along... 😊

    The Corvette prop plate (1DXI536) has the wrong style letter I on it. When CA switched to the narrower dies for 7 character plates, the I changed from a single line to one with serifs (horizontal bars at top and bottom). On 1ABC234 format plates, I O and Q are only ever used for the middle letter. Prop CA plates often have I or Q as the 3rd letter, like the Corvette's, so as not to coincide with a real plate.

    I watched this episode on Netflix recently and it looked to me that the stunt driver shorted the landing ramp (maybe hitting the turret on the ferret slowed it down). Reminded me of Gator landing the LTD half on/half off a barge in White Lightning.

      Which was Hal Needham and not supposed to happen, and Burt was on the shore and dove in to check on his friend, as the barge captain left too early, hence why it was such a terrific slam there that basically broke the back of the car

    The instrumental piece feels a lot like a rights-free clone of Don't Fear the Reaper mashed up with Sultans of Swing to me... (NOTE: I know it was an original, but it feels like Peake was going for the same general sound as those two songs.)

    The tank may not make into the "Top Ten Bad Guy vehicles" list, but I think it deserves an honourable mention, plus Michael's fear of being cooked alive from "Ring of Fire" seems to have been justified, there was another character named Gene Hanson mentioned in"Ten Wheel Trouble" I think they were named after the "Junk Yard Dog" writer as an apology, plus I think Dr Von Voorman would be happy at KITT's performance, he got his mojo back!

    You know its funny with you bringing up the air conditioning, I was looking at the dash wondering how you could modernize if they ever did another series or tv show and cant remember seeing air conditioning vents in the dash at all, so the knight rider dash must have covered them up pretty well, which caused abit of an issue there,
    wonder why they didnt retrofit or redesign them around the vents, as that wouldnt just be an issue for hasslehoff, that would also be the stunt people too.
    also with the music at the start of the episode, season 3 would be about the same time Vice was starting, IE 1984 and 1985, which came on sometimes before knight rider, and with what people said of glen larson where he liked to take things from other shows
    I guess having don was his way of doing that without paying for the songs, as I remember seeing people in the comments about these videos watching both shows back to back on fridays
    '
    so some bleed over would be natural, hell I think the episode they had where michael lost his memory and was being chased by kitt was straight using the same music they used in the hit list of miami vices first season
    granted I might be getting the clip wrong as its been 20 years since I've seen the show in reruns, but its the one where he turbo boosts through the glass.

    That's a surprise. A Soviet era military armooured vehicle being used in the show. I surprised they would still export this kind of hardware to the West (this 1985 still being the Cold War) and it could have also been bugged by the KGB who could get vital intelligence on the USA's famous talking indistructable self driving black Trans Am!

    I have said it before and I'll say it again - there's no way those front wheels stayed on that car.
    Your freeze frames do make me doubt that statement a little. But only a tiny bit. I didn't realise there was a film camera buried in the landing ramp when the Boost through a tank is performed. It does seem to be obvious that the camera survived enough to retrieve the film footage from it.
    Also your mention of the call sheets not detailing any damage to the stunt car gives me a little more doubt. I really want you to be able to tell me that the stunt car is never seen again through the rest of S3 and S4, because I really want to stand by that statement i made.

      That's the roll caged jump car, which does make it until the end of the series, HOWEVER, we do know the car was replaced at least once during the show's run. There are usually 2 sets of call sheets - a set for 1st Unit, and a set for 2nd unit. This jump would have been 2nd Unit, and we actually don't have the 2nd unit call sheets for this episode. So, it is possible the car suffered severe damage! We should ask Jack Gill.
