I consider Mr. Zukerman one of our huge violinists, maybe the greatest nowadays. Here he puts a tremendous own approach into Mozart, it's quite romantic.
Oh ! no! speechless ! how beautiful Zukerman's Mozart No.3 it is. I was moved so so so much, especially so juicy second movement and beautiful third movement tempo should be gifted from Heaven , I can't listen with out tear, and also Orchestra lyricism rhythm is veryveryvery beautiful sound that's reason because God blessed Mozart !(sorry poor English)89yrs.
This is an excellent performance. I'd like to find a shirt like Z.'s. Seriously, if anybody knows where I can get one. I think the camera man had a crush on the ladies in the horn section. There are more close-ups of them than on the soloist!
Amazing and wonderful performance. The music is without borders. Consequently, genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart life's and music. Acutely, the devoted of Mozart music, and his legacy contributed for the humanity is lasting and alive forever.
The solo is near perfection in it's phrasing and nuance; the posters who have considered Pinchas Zukerman's performance here as "weak and nervous" have, perhaps, heard too many over-engineered , overmiked recordings?
I agree, it's just the volume they must be focusing on... the sound he is producing is so free, and the control he has over the instrument is astounding compared to others..... in the same situation, other players' piano wouldn't reach as far as his does. I think they are use to more extroverted performances. His tone has so much beauty it baffles me that people cannot hear! >_
His violin is a Guarneri del Gesu, and actually they are just almost exactly the same size, overall, as a Stradivari, but they have a flatter table and slightly less arching in the top, thus appearing to be , perhaps smaller. Also, Zukerman is about 6'3" and a big guy.
I studied with Zukerman in Ottawa, he's not any taller than 5'9 tops. He's not small though. I have to disagree about his Guarneri having a flatter table, his also has a high belly. He was using a better one in the 80's actually. The one he's currently using is quite nice, and indeed has a big sound
@@ViolinistWilliam His Dushkin Del Gesu is one of the greatest violins on the planet. He’s been playing it since the late seventies or early eighties I think. Before that, didn’t he play a Strad?
A little bombastic, but still quite beautiful. The producer had the hots for the horn player and the oboist...that being said, he's no fool, and neither is the Pinkster!
What is about camera men?? Please, stop trying to be 'artists'. It's like they just discovered what the 'focus' lens does. You have a job, do your job and stop interfering with and distracting from the performance. Just give me a good view as if I had a good seat and turn your camera on, then go have a couple of beers until the lights come back up.
Wonderful performance. Camera men need a lesson here. Always focus on the soloist.. Mr Zukerman should have worn his tux for this. The black just didn't suit the music. Hilary Hann wins this one.
It's funny, there's are countless videos of Zukerman on UA-cam where he says little else except instructing students to move elbow forward on down bow after middle of bow. I don't see him doing it himself once! But what he does works fine though. It just seems very odd to me that he is so obsessed with something he doesn't practice himself.
It could be one of those "do as I say, not as I do" type of things. For example, I know that my 4th finger should always be curved when I play, but I didn't learn to do it when I was little, and now it's hard to think about it and make it happen every time because I'm focusing on trying to create art. Old habits like that are very hard to change. I often stress aspects of technique or practice strategy with my students that I wasn't taught or didn't understand completely when I was young because I know it will save them trouble in the long-run if they learn it now.
Felicia Rojas You could be right. By the way, Kyung Wha Chung seems to play with quite a flat 4th dinner finger, so you're in good company! I suppose most people find ways of making things work, which is individual to them.
And Anne Sophie-Mutter plays with a stiff pinky on her bow hand too! I guess if you're a top-notch player, it really doesn't matter what you do as long as it works! xD (And my phone does the same thing - LOL!)
Matthew Hume Clapping between movements was commonly done in the time of Mozart. I don't understand why it's not allowed nowadays. If you go to the opera, people clap enthusiastically after a great aria! I suggest we go back to the practice of clapping between movements In jazz concerts it is also common to clap after a great solo in the middle of a piece.
Pinchas Zukerman is an insensitive musician who humiliates young musicians with Asian heritage by making culturally insensitive comments in front of a live audience. I play classical music but I have no respect for such a disgraceful musician. All he shows on stage is his arrogance and techniques. No humanity and no compassion. Shame on you.
are you damaged in the head? I understand you know nothing about music but Jesus Christ. Talented? He has far ascended talented? Does your definition mean you are talented at being stupid? I mean come on man
What's your definition of overplaying? And by grandstanding if you mean his conducting, I think that's just called enthusiasm. Did you even watch him play at all? He looks pretty humble to me and quite elegant.
His vibrato kills this classical work... his tone sounds weak and the phrasing is just fog. Loses any voice like quality... if someone sang like that, they'd be extremely ill.
+CookingJames1 classical music isn't about getting views on UA-cam. 50,000 views for the national arts centre Orchestra in three years isn't really that many views, by the way
"His vibrato kills"? Ehm, hello my friend, we are in the XXI century. Free interpretation is available. You don´t like the vibrato of master Zukerman? So you don´t need to listen, because he vibs all! Maybe you can play it better ;)
Had a chance to see pinky in 2021 perform this concerto, he is still so so amazing
What more can you ask for: raining outside and coffee in hand while Mozart’s music is playing.
Great Mozart, every day l listen to20 years now..

His playing playing on this is superb!!
Glad you like it. Thank you for watching.
One of my favorite play of this concerto! The sound of 2rd movement is god like !
Beautiful interpretation
Wonderful perfomance.
Amazing
Good news for Mozart, Zukerman, and the listening audience both at the concert and at home. Thank you for the video. Bravo!

Good to every subtle details of this music making so naturally flow thru, led by soloist.

Make sure to put the camera 500 ft away from pinky, but close in on the brass players. So frustrating
I don't konow who made the montage of this video. When maestro is playing most interesting parts, the camera doesn't show him at all. Pity!

It's either he's not using a 4/4 size violin or the violin looks very small in his hands. Great Performance nevertheless. :)
It's Guarneri. They are usually smaller than regular 4/4 violins
34.6 if I am not mistaken, Strads are usually around 35+-.
ss032010310103 no zukerman has big hands and his many hours of practice make it look small because of his ease of holding it.

Zukerman played this very well as he almost always does.
Which orchestra is it? :)
I believe it is the National Arts Centre Orchestra .

There are two many sudden dynamic changes in the first movement
Wonderful Zukerman, mediocre orchestra, lousy camerman

Zuckerman has studied only music all his life. So there is a very lack of common sense. And he likes to insult people who are more talented than him.
