I agree with you on everything my only question is how do you as DP make a decision on camera and lens combo that best suits the project? I've scoured the internet on this topic and feel like I'm going down a rabbit hole.
@@zayrobinson1608 the truth of the matter is, at least for me, my camera will always be Alexa. Usually Alexa Mini. That’s just the standard that most projects and clients either require or request, so it ultimately comes down to lenses. There is a lot of nuance with lenses when deciding for a project. Say a narrative. I did a Fincher-esque thriller that was very grounded in a modern day setting, so my choice of lenses were for something modern and sharp. I wanted to capture and image as close to what your eye sees. On another project, it was a throwback to old 60’s culture and aesthetic, so my aim was to find lenses close to the time period to find a vintage look that you’d see at that time. There’s no real right answer because you could have shot each of those projects with the opposite lenses and made something interesting and unique. Ultimately, the client or whoever is going to differ to you. It’s not about finding the right camera and lens combo for the project, but what you think the right combo is. Edit: one more note on camera. I know the Alexa sensor very well. It’s the one I’m most familiar with, but I would use an FX3 or Venice if my project needs something like lowlight capability. While I say the Alexa is the often requested standard, there is still room to differ to something that maybe fits the needs of the project. I guess the camera choice can be based on utility and the lenses on its style.
Bro can you make a video on - budget short filmakers making a short film with limited resources like an iPhone 15 pro and what tips and tricks they can use to get a perfect and cinematic shot , if they don't have mic or have a budget mic how they can enhance their audio at the time of recording , how they can shoot indoor ( for eg - a short horror film, filmed inside a whole flat ) , and how we can achieve a cinematic lighting inside that flat. Just a recommendation , pls consider it 😢
@@krishanraj6797 I would actually love to do this. I’ve been considering doing something on the iPhone 15 with the new Log capabilities. I’m gonna do this and try to make a small horror scene of my own for it. May take me a minute because I’m about to move, so probably I’ll try to do that by September. Love it, thank you!
@@CartyCantDance this rehouse is $8000. I definitely wouldn’t recommend buying one unless you are a rental house or very busy DP. Renting one or finding and OG lens to mod, that’s a move.
@@mitchellbrinkerdp im saying that the OG lenses are going for $2000. Sure, it looks great, but I agree renting is the only way for most people to use this.

Thank you so much this was helpful
It’s funny you talked about the dream lens because I want it to be my hero lens for my first feature
Very beautiful video! I was wondering if you could make some more video tests on the lens. Also how much did you get it for?
@@AdonileTheDoughnut i got this one for $200 for the weekend.
That anamorphic shot was insane 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We need more small lens makers to make imperfect lenses with solid build quality.
There are some Chinese ones but not many.
TTartisans are amazing! Unfortunately they don't make them for pl mount
Fantastic!
Can we have a link to have it ?
love the vid, that lens looks insane at wide open
