We need more $100-$250 cards, that way you can still have a great budget gaming PC without shelling out a huge part of your budget just on one part, the graphics card. It's especially hard to recommend when one graphics card almost costs as much as a new console.
Yeah the 1060, 1660, and rx580 type cards were in a solid sweet spot and nothing in the new lineups are in that position. I have a friend with a 1050ti that's... Pretty darn slow but it's just enough for him to be able to play pretty much everything with the friend group (with fps and fidelity compromise but that's better than nothing).
exactly. That's my budget right there. I was shooting for $200 but I'd go as high at $250 but those cards shot up to like $500-600 during the pandemic crunch I don't even know if those prices have come back down yet.

As much as it may suck for buyers, it certainly helped me with the cost of my old rig in selling it. I thought I would have some serious losses, but then this whole thing happened. It is literally only tens of dollars losses compared to hundreds.
I wish you guys would include at least a couple more widely used (and older) graphics cards for comparison in your reviews. Based on the Steam hardware survey, the GTX 1060 is still the most commonly used card (I have one). While it clearly makes sense to compare the 6600XT to its contemporary competition and immediate predecessors, especially for people that like to upgrade every generation, there is also a large user base of people like me that skips one or more generations between upgrades. Without some datapoints for older models it becomes a lot more work for those users to determine what the value of these graphics cards might be for them. Obviously you can't compare the 6600XT to everything ever made, but a few strategic choices would expand the relevance for a pretty sizeable chunk of the audience
I wish they included the 1080 Ti. If you want to compare it to the 1060, just compare your 1060 to the 1080 Ti because this is a little faster than that.
Maybe vector off the 3060 reviews by ltt and optimum tech and compare your 1060 with this? It's not that convenient but it's a good idea if you want to get a basic idea of the difference

Something seemed wrong when i saw the picture. If the die size is halfed, how can you cut 4 times as many chips from the same wafer? As you said if the area is halfed the side lenght of a sqare should be 1/sqrt(2), because (1/sqrt(2))^2 = 1/2.

Just picked one up from a miner. 150usd, he claims it was used for 3-7 months and from the looks of it he was not lying. The paste was still wet but the pads were pretty dry. That is to be expected though, he mined etherium which is memory intensive. From what I read the memory chips on these run cool so hope it last a year or two till I can get a 4k card at a reasonable price, fingers crossed.

When was that ever the case? I remember my first gaming PC I paid almost 400 bucks for my card... and that was 16 years ago. Factor in inflation and 800 bucks a card sounds about right.
My 980 is still holding up. I really was excited when the 3070 came out and would have upgraded, but you're not gonna get $500 in my head and then get me to shell out 2 grand for it!

It wasn't much better than my 980, even the 2080 wasn't that much better. I mean it had rtx, but who cares it was a feature that barely worked 1st gen, execpt for 20yo games that were recoded to use it. The 3070 is supposed to be better than a 2080ti. So your getting top tier last gen for $500 isn't bad. Especially if you plan to use it for 5+ years. I really don't even need the upgrade from my 980 yet, the nice thing about that card is how highly overclockable it was. I can get a 200mhz OC no prob with it. I can play most games at 1080p with maxed settings. Really if I would have upgraded to a 3070, I'd probably have to upgrade my monitor to even see the difference.

@@GMCLabs yeah a 980 is perfectly fine for 1080p high. Ultra settings are pretty much pointless so just stick to high with shadows on low and turn off ambient occlusion. If you plan to stick to 1080p a 3070 is complete overkill. RTX is pointless the only real reason why people buy in to the rtx gimmick is dlss and Nvidia sadly killing off gtx.
Maybe this age of gpu shortages will encourage devs to highly optimize their games so that old cards can keep up. I don't know just throwing thoughts out there, good vid.
I can hope so for those holding older cards but it doesn’t seem this will be the case. A lot of the recommended specs for games are starting to recommend the 2060/2070
I admit that in powerful GPU shortage for gaming latest AAA titles have big issues now. Try indie games. Most of them are playable on older generation GPUs on high settings with great performance.
From my understanding the notion that most new games aren't already highly optimized is mostly false. Modern compilers are actually quite good at compiling high level languages to machine code and even optimizing that code in various ways (high level vs low level coding is the main argument I usually see). Modern game Engines are apparently a mixed bag with a decent amount of work needed to get the most out of them so that's one area where I could definitely see improvement. Optimizing for newer components might not be the same as optimizing for older components which could also be something game devs work on since most new games are going to be optimized for the newest components. Ironically Ray Tracing is something that could make optimizing games a lot easier in the future but at this point it requires newer hardware and is far from perfect. I think the latest versions of DirectX and other graphics technologies are also designed to make optimizations easier but again, for newer hardware.
Its even worse if you live outside the US or Canada. I see all these amazing cards, but where I am from, I have no choice but to settle for whats available and what is available is often old and overpriced. Wish GPU situation was like the cars market.

I agree. I prefer for extra performance to go into more fps rather than more pixels per frame. 1080p at 240 Hz is about the same workload as 4K at 60 Hz. 1080p is just fine for me on a VRR desktop monitor. Not that this means I want this card. No, I do not.
When and if RTX 4000 series is readily available and can render games at 1440p max settings and over 120fps then I’ll be on board.. Until then I’m holding my RTX 2080 until the performance jump is greater..
I mean there is a huge difference between 1080 and 4k. But if u stay with a 24" monitor it will be fine. 1440p is the sweetspot still, not so much more intensive but with way better graphics
MSRP is still too high compared to some years ago, but in the UK at least, you get can FE cards at MSRP if you're there when they drop, which is how I got my 3060Ti

I got a 9400f and 1660 super level of performance for 1100$ in 2019 and my cpu actually had hyperthreading unlike 9th gen intel. As well as a full tb nvme drive.

Turned out to be one of the best buys from the latest generation of cards. Capable of 1440p gaming at high resolutions as well. Beats the snot out of the Nvidia offerings at the same real-world prices.

i got an rx570.. twice, because the first one died in doom eternal just about when the warranty was about to come to an end (i got a refund). each time it was about $150. i see no point in upgrading anytime soon. it still runs everything and more in my case and if i were to upgrade, i'd have to get a new platform. i'd also preferably like something capable of at least 3k100hz on high/very high/ultra and i mean, it's not gonna be cheap, especially during these times. by cheap i mean like $500-800 for an entire platform, not just the gpu lol, but as long as my pc runs alright, i'm willing to wait a couple years more, so i could get a decent ddr5 build with new zen architecture or maybe intel if they finally wake up. i'll choose whatever works best for me at that time. and the 6600xt release is.. disappointing. it delivers solid performance, but at what cost. even if you miraculously happened to get one at that price, it's still not some ground-breaking deal like you'd hope for a new release to be. and there's still no entry-level gpu's on the market. you get to choose between ryzen apu or the laughable gt1030, like come on.
I don't get the flak about the 6600 xt. At the moment i'm looking at a 1080ti (near equivalent in performance) and the price is well... $1500. A 3060 ti is $820. A 6600 xt is $560. Sorry but at that price it's a great competitor to the current market, even if it's above MSRP. Even if the initial MSRP was slightly overpriced. Don't go yapping about ebay listings either, that website can fuck right off.

In the UK, right now the 6600XT costs 100-200 less than the 3060ti. I bought mine yesterday and can confirm that it can handle a lot of games in 1440p with 60+ FPS in medium settings (thankfully). Perfect for me as a mostly MMO player
Yeah. I was going between those two, and where I live I got a tri-fan asrock 6600 xt for $620, but the 3060ti is $1100, so for me it was a pretty easy choice
Same here with my 1060. The silver lining here is that game devs know these cards are still heavily in use by gamers (courtesy of Steam stats), so they continue to support them.
My RX 570 is beginning to fail on me, just ordered the 6600XT. Honestly cant wait, as it looks to be a large step up in performance over my current 4gb model

The way I look at it, the 6600 XT is the perfect card for those wanting to upgrade their GPU from a couple years ago (or several years) without going over the top with wattage. Because that would likely mean having to upgrade the PSU as well if people were looking to get anything better than a 6600 XT.
I just bought the RX 6600 XT for $380 on Newegg today (8/11/21). I've been looking for an RTX 3060 TI for MONTHS at near-MSRP and never came close to getting one. If you're looking for a good card that is selling at MSRP, the RX 6600 XT is a great choice. There's no doubt about that right now.
even better now (07-02-22 in denmark) i got a 6700xt for 600usd (msrp is 480 or something like that) really good price comperad to the market did sit a que for 3 months but still.... upgraded from gtx 470

I was surprised too. It makes sense though, given the current explosion in popularity it’s experiencing right now and the fact that, unlike WOW, it has a canned benchmark application, making it simple to create a highly repeatable test to eliminate as many variables as they can. Really, it’s Blizzard’s loss that they never created a benchmark that hardware reviewers can use to test GPUs and CPUs with, as I’m sure it’s very difficult for those reviewers to come up with a highly repeatable test that won’t take hours and hours to benchmark one GPU/CPU on or is too variable for them to be comfortable with using. Square Enix are smart putting out benchmarks like this, especially now that the game is getting so much mainstream attention that PC hardware reviewers like LMG are taking notice and wanting to include it in their reviews so people can know how hardware stacks up in that game. I’m sure the fact that FFXIV has a benchmark application meant to represent performance when Endwalker launches in November they can use to test the game on hardware easily made the decision to include FFXIV in LTT’s 6600XT review a no brainer.
Just wanted to mention that when I first saw you in videos I was afraid you weren't right for this, but you have taken advice from everyone and you've become one of the best people on the team as far as presenting info to people. Well done, impressive. You have definitely become one of my favorites to watch.
Got the RX 6600XT in Nov 2021 really near MRSP - in GER with 19% taxes at 440 Euros, which was 200-400 Euro less than the 3060 or 3060Ti. Did not regret it. Its on WQHD typically as fast as a 1060/6gb on FullHD. In most games most of the time near 60Hz, I use "Radeon chill" function nearly all the time. And if it will get too slow, I'd take the RSR at any time rendering a screen in FHD with upscaling. Usage of that function is nearly foolproof. It was initially not my first choice, still had to take it lacking opportunities for "better" stuff - but have to admit its sufficient. And as soon as FSR 2.0 gets more widespread, even the most demanding titles will get comfortable to play.
I don't get this tantrum regarding the price. 5700xt is 2 years old card its much worse than 6600xt and its msrp was 500 dollars and noone cared, myself bought it secondhand for 400 dollars. So?
If your investing experience is less than 10 years start with 5-6 portfolio. don't bet big on any single company, learn the process first.. initially diversification is not that bad, it really worked for me in initial years. remember that protection of capital is a must
Market crashes are an opportune time to protect capital in the sense that one can gain years of growth from the bottom of a crash in a matter of months. this last crash provided over a decade of growth in majority of stock. Always be ready to jump at these opportunities.

Reviewers are wrong about this card. It trades blows with the 5700xt and 2070Super, both cards which are WAY more expensive and will continue to be for a while. It's better than the RTX 3060 in raw performance while being the same price or less in many places. It is perfectly fine for 1440p gaming considering ultra settings are a waste of performance anyways. Plus, AMD cards will benefit in the future from FSR and RSR, and being newer the drivers will get better over time. Around $500 or less it is one of the best cards you can buy for the foreseeable future for midrange buyers. thanks to the media's anti-hype on this card, they didn't sell out quickly and I easily got one for $380 on launch. No regrets !

I was thirteen when I built my build this year, I was hoping to snag a 1650 super for gaming but ended up with a gtx 760 for 75$. Just two weeks ago my cousin upgraded to a 5700 and I got to take his 1060 3gb for 80$

@@francescovolpini There's a significant portion of LTT audience that would watch a new channel regardless of content, so add that to actual Linux, and Anthony, fans, and you'd get the most subscribers to a Linux channel. Combined with positive feedback loop of more exposure to linux->more people potentially using and extolling linux->linux becomes more popular->more people exposed, and it could potentially be an extremely good move. No, not guaranteed to do that, people are fickle and largely irrational creatures after all, but once the house renovation series is finished (since that's a big expenditure on Linus' part) he should look at doing a trial of a Linux channel. Have Anthony show different distros, benchmark between drivers and between Windows/Linux on the same hardware, show niche applications of Linux, etc. I can see at least a year's worth of content out of it without getting stale, but if it helps increase Linux popularity, it could generate for itself more content for a time.

It's $320 in Amazon as of august 2022. It's close competitor, the RTX 3060 ti it's at $470. Amazing card for such a similar performance when compared with it's performance rival.
I've just got a rx 6600m from AliExpress at 180 DLLs shipped to my country, and plays everything i throw at It at 1080p 60fps+ also temps dont go over 65 degrees, very happy with It, this video got old fast
Oh how this video aged. The 6600XT is now cheaper than even the plain 3060, and it's on par if not slightly better than the even more expensive 3060ti.
6600xt in a normal market I would assume would be more competitive, it has nearly half the transistors, die size, lower price and tdp than the 3060 and still remains competitive
In newegg, it's around 45k INR ($600) which is actually pretty reasonable, considering that the GTX 1660 also cost the same, and the RTX 3060 is almost 50% more. It's a good bargain imo.
I got one of these when it was new, sold it, and missed it enough to get another. A year in, and it's clear that the 6600 XT is a 1080p card that's /very/ comfortable at 1440p. The non XT variant is more the true 1080p card.
I was rewatching thus and I had bought a 6600 xt $350 (new) and I was ecstatic. I think it is a fantastic card. Although I now have a gpu bottleneck. But I could not be happier. And during the shortages I got a 970 for $170.
So glad I bought an rx 5700 xt when I did. Got it literally the month the price started going out of control and I was gritting my teeth paying $450 then. Now the same card goes for $1,200 us dollars. D:
It's the same in UK you can find them in between £370 - 450 which for a gpu that's 15% faster the 3060 it's great and 3060 is about £650 at the moment.
That's what I don't get about the stick this card gets in reviews. AMD in a stroke of self-harming honesty actually set the MSRP at what seems like a realistic value they could potentially be sold for once the current raw material shortage and logistics price gauging has subsided. Nvidia's MSRP on especially the 3060 and 3060ti by comparison seems like fairy dusted unicorn farts with no relation to even a hypothetical reality.
I think Anthony should genuinely feel proud about his work at LTT, I just drop everything I do every time they release content featuring Anthony because I just *know* it's gonna be good.
@Anthony. Great video however, @0:56 whoever on the team created the die graphic needs another math lesson on calculating area. That's not how mm2 works! The 237mm2 is just under half the 520mm2, not less than a quarter. Have the person who did the graphic, take those two GPUs apart and take the measurements. It'll be a good lesson to learn about area of a die.

I like how all of a sudden the 2070 which was an insane 4k gaming card 2 years ago is now being compared to the target 1080p card, and people are mad about the newer card being cheaper than the older card but more expensive based off of it's generational naming scheme.
I do remember the same situation happened with RTX20xx series but many tech outlet defend this decision. The only one that whine about this is Jim from AdoredTV. They should have whine about this during Turing. With the mining boom that happened right now, it is already too late to whine about it
Interesting point about how 1080p gaming has stayed the same “cost” since 2010. Which is $3-400 msrp. Really shows how developers have focused a lot more on the in game details etc than resolution. Another factor to consider as to why 1080p gaming is still expensive is that gamers were absolutely satisfied with 60 FPS in 2010. These days, “acceptable” frame rates are at least double that, on average.

Realistically in 2016 this range of card was a $200-$250 card, shame theyve upped the msrp from the get go and killed the midrange.

Just picked one up from a miner. 150usd, he claims it was used for 3-7 months and from the looks of it he was not lying. The paste was still wet but the pads were pretty dry. That is to be expected though, he mined etherium which is memory intensive. From what I read the memory chips on these run cool so hope it last a year or two till I can get a 4k card at a reasonable price, fingers crossed.

When was that ever the case? I remember my first gaming PC I paid almost 400 bucks for my card... and that was 16 years ago. Factor in inflation and 800 bucks a card sounds about right.

My 980 is still holding up. I really was excited when the 3070 came out and would have upgraded, but you're not gonna get $500 in my head and then get me to shell out 2 grand for it!
$500 is way too much for a 70 series gpu anyways, especially since we are way past launch remember the gtx 1070 launched at $379...

It wasn't much better than my 980, even the 2080 wasn't that much better. I mean it had rtx, but who cares it was a feature that barely worked 1st gen, execpt for 20yo games that were recoded to use it. The 3070 is supposed to be better than a 2080ti. So your getting top tier last gen for $500 isn't bad. Especially if you plan to use it for 5+ years. I really don't even need the upgrade from my 980 yet, the nice thing about that card is how highly overclockable it was. I can get a 200mhz OC no prob with it. I can play most games at 1080p with maxed settings. Really if I would have upgraded to a 3070, I'd probably have to upgrade my monitor to even see the difference.

@@GMCLabs yeah a 980 is perfectly fine for 1080p high. Ultra settings are pretty much pointless so just stick to high with shadows on low and turn off ambient occlusion. If you plan to stick to 1080p a 3070 is complete overkill. RTX is pointless the only real reason why people buy in to the rtx gimmick is dlss and Nvidia sadly killing off gtx.
Maybe this age of gpu shortages will encourage devs to highly optimize their games so that old cards can keep up. I don't know just throwing thoughts out there, good vid.
I can hope so for those holding older cards but it doesn’t seem this will be the case. A lot of the recommended specs for games are starting to recommend the 2060/2070
I admit that in powerful GPU shortage for gaming latest AAA titles have big issues now. Try indie games. Most of them are playable on older generation GPUs on high settings with great performance.
Either that or PC gaming will be indie pixel graph/moba/heroshooter only + streaming...
From my understanding the notion that most new games aren't already highly optimized is mostly false. Modern compilers are actually quite good at compiling high level languages to machine code and even optimizing that code in various ways (high level vs low level coding is the main argument I usually see). Modern game Engines are apparently a mixed bag with a decent amount of work needed to get the most out of them so that's one area where I could definitely see improvement. Optimizing for newer components might not be the same as optimizing for older components which could also be something game devs work on since most new games are going to be optimized for the newest components. Ironically Ray Tracing is something that could make optimizing games a lot easier in the future but at this point it requires newer hardware and is far from perfect. I think the latest versions of DirectX and other graphics technologies are also designed to make optimizations easier but again, for newer hardware.
No... the devs will need to optimize their games so that INTEGRATED graphics can keep up!

Not just gpus, almost exactly year ago i bought Ryzen 7 2700x for 170e, now it costs over 200e, mostly even over 220e. This is crazy.
Its even worse if you live outside the US or Canada. I see all these amazing cards, but where I am from, I have no choice but to settle for whats available and what is available is often old and overpriced. Wish GPU situation was like the cars market.

Why 1080p Gaming? The card is still better than the Rx 5700 xt. Id say it is a mid range 1440p card, you can play basically all games at 1440p 60 FPS.

I agree. I prefer for extra performance to go into more fps rather than more pixels per frame. 1080p at 240 Hz is about the same workload as 4K at 60 Hz. 1080p is just fine for me on a VRR desktop monitor.

When and if RTX 4000 series is readily available and can render games at 1440p max settings and over 120fps then I’ll be on board.. Until then I’m holding my RTX 2080 until the performance jump is greater..

I mean there is a huge difference between 1080 and 4k. But if u stay with a 24" monitor it will be fine. 1440p is the sweetspot still, not so much more intensive but with way better graphics

MSRP is still too high compared to some years ago, but in the UK at least, you get can FE cards at MSRP if you're there when they drop, which is how I got my 3060Ti
lmao get with the times ppl.......800-1300$ "BUILDS" are dominated by the laptop market these days........theyve been dumpstering the 100-300$ gpu market since 2019 with the 1660ti for laptops. I got a 9400f and 1660 super level of performance for 1100$ in 2019 and my cpu actually had hyperthreading unlike 9th gen intel. As well as a full tb nvme drive.

i got an rx570.. twice, because the first one died in doom eternal just about when the warranty was about to come to an end (i got a refund). each time it was about $150. i see no point in upgrading anytime soon. it still runs everything and more in my case and if i were to upgrade, i'd have to get a new platform. i'd also preferably like something capable of at least 3k100hz on high/very high/ultra and i mean, it's not gonna be cheap, especially during these times.
by cheap i mean like $500-800 for an entire platform, not just the gpu lol, but as long as my pc runs alright, i'm willing to wait a couple years more, so i could get a decent ddr5 build with new zen architecture or maybe intel if they finally wake up. i'll choose whatever works best for me at that time.
and the 6600xt release is.. disappointing. it delivers solid performance, but at what cost. even if you miraculously happened to get one at that price, it's still not some ground-breaking deal like you'd hope for a new release to be. and there's still no entry-level gpu's on the market. you get to choose between ryzen apu or the laughable gt1030, like come on.

I don't get the flak about the 6600 xt. At the moment i'm looking at a 1080ti (near equivalent in performance) and the price is well... $1500. A 3060 ti is $820. A 6600 xt is $560. Sorry but at that price it's a great competitor to the current market, even if it's above MSRP. Even if the initial MSRP was slightly overpriced. Don't go yapping about ebay listings either, that website can fuck right off.

In the UK, right now the 6600XT costs 100-200 less than the 3060ti. I bought mine yesterday and can confirm that it can handle a lot of games in 1440p with 60+ FPS in medium settings (thankfully). Perfect for me as a mostly MMO player

Same here with my 1060. The silver lining here is that game devs know these cards are still heavily in use by gamers (courtesy of Steam stats), so they continue to support them.
My RX 570 ITX will be staying much longer as well, I hope she's up for it for years to come.

The way I look at it, the 6600 XT is the perfect card for those wanting to upgrade their GPU from a couple years ago (or several years) without going over the top with wattage. Because that would likely mean having to upgrade the PSU as well if people were looking to get anything better than a 6600 XT.
I just bought the RX 6600 XT for $380 on Newegg today (8/11/21). I've been looking for an RTX 3060 TI for MONTHS at near-MSRP and never came close to getting one. If you're looking for a good card that is selling at MSRP, the RX 6600 XT is a great choice. There's no doubt about that right now.

I was surprised too. It makes sense though, given the current explosion in popularity it’s experiencing right now and the fact that, unlike WOW, it has a canned benchmark application, making it simple to create a highly repeatable test to eliminate as many variables as they can.
Really, it’s Blizzard’s loss that they never created a benchmark that hardware reviewers can use to test GPUs and CPUs with, as I’m sure it’s very difficult for those reviewers to come up with a highly repeatable test that won’t take hours and hours to benchmark one GPU/CPU on or is too variable for them to be comfortable with using.
Square Enix are smart putting out benchmarks like this, especially now that the game is getting so much mainstream attention that PC hardware reviewers like LMG are taking notice and wanting to include it in their reviews so people can know how hardware stacks up in that game. I’m sure the fact that FFXIV has a benchmark application meant to represent performance when Endwalker launches in November they can use to test the game on hardware easily made the decision to include FFXIV in LTT’s 6600XT review a no brainer.

Just wanted to mention that when I first saw you in videos I was afraid you weren't right for this, but you have taken advice from everyone and you've become one of the best people on the team as far as presenting info to people. Got the RX 6600XT in Nov 2021 really near MRSP - in GER with 19% taxes at 440 Euros, which was 200-400 Euro less than the 3060 or 3060Ti. Did not regret it. Its on WQHD typically as fast as a 1060/6gb on FullHD. In most games most of the time near 60Hz, I use "Radeon chill" function nearly all the time. And if it will get too slow, I'd take the RSR at any time rendering a screen in FHD with upscaling. Usage of that function is nearly foolproof. It was initially not my first choice, still had to take it lacking opportunities for "better" stuff - but have to admit its sufficient. And as soon as FSR 2.0 gets more widespread, even the most demanding titles will get comfortable to play.

If your investing experience is less than 10 years start with 5-6 portfolio. don't bet big on any single company, learn the process first.. initially diversification is not that bad, it really worked for me in initial years. remember that protection of capital is a must
Market crashes are an opportune time to protect capital in the sense that one can gain years of growth from the bottom of a crash in a matter of months. this last crash provided over a decade of growth in majority of stock. Always be ready to jump at these opportunities.

Reviewers are wrong about this card. It trades blows with the 5700xt and 2070Super, both cards which are WAY more expensive and will continue to be for a while. It's better than the RTX 3060 in raw performance while being the same price or less in many places. It is perfectly fine for 1440p gaming considering ultra settings are a waste of performance anyways. Plus, AMD cards will benefit in the future from FSR and RSR, and being newer the drivers will get better over time. Around $500 or less it is one of the best cards you can buy for the foreseeable future for midrange buyers.
thanks to the media's anti-hype on this card, they didn't sell out quickly and I easily got one for $380 on launch. No regrets !

I was thirteen when I built my build this year, I was hoping to snag a 1650 super for gaming but ended up with a gtx 760 for 75$. Just two weeks ago my cousin upgraded to a 5700 and I got to take his 1060 3gb for 80$

Combined with positive feedback loop of more exposure to linux->more people potentially using and extolling linux->linux becomes more popular->more people exposed, and it could potentially be an extremely good move.
No, not guaranteed to do that, people are fickle and largely irrational creatures after all, but once the house renovation series is finished (since that's a big expenditure on Linus' part) he should look at doing a trial of a Linux channel. Have Anthony show different distros, benchmark between drivers and between Windows/Linux on the same hardware, show niche applications of Linux, etc.
I can see at least a year's worth of content out of it without getting stale, but if it helps increase Linux popularity, it could generate for itself more content for a time.

6600xt in a normal market I would assume would be more competitive, it has nearly half the transistors, die size, lower price and tdp than the 3060 and still remains competitive

In newegg, it's around 45k INR ($600) which is actually pretty reasonable, considering that the GTX 1660 also cost the same, and the RTX 3060 is almost 50% more. It's a good bargain imo.
I got one of these when it was new, sold it, and missed it enough to get another. A year in, and it's clear that the 6600 XT is a 1080p card that's /very/ comfortable at 1440p. The non XT variant is more the true 1080p card.
I was rewatching thus and I had bought a 6600 xt $350 (new) and I was ecstatic. I think it is a fantastic card. Although I now have a gpu bottleneck. But I could not be happier. And during the shortages I got a 970 for $170.

So glad I bought an rx 5700 xt when I did. Got it literally the month the price started going out of control and I was gritting my teeth paying $450 then. Now the same card goes for $1,200 us dollars. D:
Sell your 5700xt for 1200 and buy a 6700xt
lol..I feel you. I was sweating paying $850 for my 3080 FTW3 not long after they released. Now they range from $1800-$2800.
I just picked up one of these used for $130 and it's a great upgrade from my old R9 290 😅
In Australia, this card is an absolute bargain. Its rival, the 3060, is double retail price and is always out of stock.
It's the same in UK you can find them in between £370 - 450 which for a gpu that's 15% faster the 3060 it's great and 3060 is about £650 at the moment.
That's what I don't get about the stick this card gets in reviews. AMD in a stroke of self-harming honesty actually set the MSRP at what seems like a realistic value they could potentially be sold for once the current raw material shortage and logistics price gauging has subsided. Nvidia's MSRP on especially the 3060 and 3060ti by comparison seems like fairy dusted unicorn farts with no relation to even a hypothetical reality.
Was about to buy a rtx 2060 but suddenly noticed the 6600tx is the same price. Am now currently thrown for a loop
I think Anthony should genuinely feel proud about his work at LTT, I just drop everything I do every time they release content featuring Anthony because I just *know* it's gonna be good.

I use mine 1440p... zero issues 90-145 fps most titles with the exception of Dying Light 2 which is 58-67 fps....which is flawless gameplay.

@Anthony. Great video however, @0:56 whoever on the team created the die graphic needs another math lesson on calculating area. That's not how mm2 works! The 237mm2 is just under half the 520mm2, not less than a quarter. Have the person who did the graphic, take those two GPUs apart and take the measurements. It'll be a good lesson to learn about area of a die.

I like how all of a sudden the 2070 which was an insane 4k gaming card 2 years ago is now being compared to the target 1080p card, and people are mad about the newer card being cheaper than the older card but more expensive based off of it's generational naming scheme.
I do remember the same situation happened with RTX20xx series but many tech outlet defend this decision. The only one that whine about this is Jim from AdoredTV. They should have whine about this during Turing. With the mining boom that happened right now, it is already too late to whine about it
This GPU scalper market is so good for consoles. Even a scalped $700 PS5 or Xbox Series X is more value than a scalped gpu.

Interesting point about how 1080p gaming has stayed the same “cost” since 2010. Which is $3-400 msrp. Really shows how developers have focused a lot more on the in game details etc than resolution. Another factor to consider as to why 1080p gaming is still expensive is that gamers were absolutely satisfied with 60 FPS in 2010. These days, “acceptable” frame rates are at least double that, on average.
I’m 100% fine with 1080p 60 FPS at low-medium. Might just be me.
60 fps is fine for most games. If you need the competitive edge just lower some optional settings to boost fps
If it’s not a shooter, I don’t really care if I’m below 100fps
