I didn't know about GMO seeds for commercial farmers there in CA until my step-dad made mention that there was 3 college fellars trying to convince neighboring farmers to get with the times of the innovation of farming bigger/faster/and pest free crops. Well, the thing was the farmland was leased from Spanish land grant and the farmer owned a fertilizer company with his brother so GMOs didn't set well with that farmer. My Grand-dad farmed his apple orchard organically. So more and more over the yrs. there was a shift from chemical fertilizing and GMO planting to organic farming. That many of the farmers were waking up to the land and people were being poisoned. And tho GMO's didn't need pesticides, the seeds were so altered that the science studies showed the rats developed ulcers and cancer in their stomachs and on their bodies. For many yrs. we fed Oma lean to our horses, but what use to be 2 to 1 ratio of rolled oats to corn soon became 3 to 1 of corn over oats. and 2 of our horses of many years of owning horses had stomach, pancreatic, cancer and our goats had digestive issues. Not only members of my family started using herbal medicines for ourselves but growing food/herbs to eat four animals, pets as well. Even late in my life my allergies became more and more to food and environment issues. People have become so unknowledgeable as to where all medicines are derived from, but bark, roots, leaves and seeds of plants that God gave us to live life healthily. That garlic, chili seeds (capsaicin in peppers) are great at deworming chickens, ducks and are great anti-bacterial within and used with honey and coconut as salve go for skin and keeping bacteria out of wounds. ACV in water for drinking helps animals with urinary infections, teas, gosh there are sooooo many plants that wild and domestic animals eat free roaming that keep them healthy from nature. Commercializing and living in a capitalistic world has been the undoing and troubles to the rest that are now trying to return to the lost Century 150 yrs. past.

I am interested in the ratio of each grain, mineral etc. of recipe. Being from California we did have a lot of Fresh and dried Alfalfa for goat farm. But wish I'd made home made rolled oats with just molasses. No corn...found not only were our horses, but goats developed tumors/cancerous growths the hard, GMO corn that was hard to digest, but was hard on their stomach health. Once we got our oat seeds from Amish community, we grew that and mixed molasses and dried it, later mixed it with the black oil sunflower seeds, dried kelp, and put out baking soda beside their loose mineral supplement feeders. Didn't think about beet pulp, but guess could use that in natural worming mixture made into cubes we fed twice a year. But things have improved and been formulated commercially in to bagged products that are new to me. We raised our goats 40 yrs. ago, so I'm learning that tried recipes like yours make healthier milking goats. I'm trying to find someone local to provide me with a supply of goat's milk since I no longer have milk from raised goats. I do know not only high quality feed affects the milk taste, but not having the male/buck goat close by the milking does, the musk can influence flavor, if the doe happens to be with illness/fever, there are several other things too, but no need to list for you obviously your experience and knowledge and I'm many years out of date and applied knowledge. So am excited to share your grain mixture recipe, loose mineral supplements and not familiar with sweet peanut feed, but wondering what your thought on alfalfa/barley, wheat fodder feed?
Hello and thank you for your input!! I’m always willing to learn and do enjoy hearing what our previous goat owners used for healthy and happy herds!! There are so many easy to use over the counter products for this or that it just gets so confusing. I have really tried hard to keep as many natural products on hard for our herds health. I do tty to use a natural worming mix from Mollys Herbals for worming issues. It doesn’t kill off the parasites, but just helps to maintain good health!! This goat mix was passed to me from a friend and I’ve shared it with so many!! (With Permission) I have reduced the oats by half as our mix already contains oats, I have wondered about the corn which is premixed in our grain. But in the 7 years with this herd we haven’t noticed any ill effects. I do need to do a bit of research on increasing butterfat I think our girls could produce more, just for home use…😁 Thank you for watching!!
