Viewing this video of President Reagan, I am reminded of this day as I was part of the US Marine detachment from MCAS(H) Tustin, CA assigned to assist the presidential detail with our CH-53D Sea Stallions from Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 361. It was an honor to be a part of this day's events and my thanks go out to the Secret Service and my fellow aircrew Marines, especially my very good friend and Crew Chief David A. Lopez, that helped make this visit to USS Constellation a great success. Semper Fi President Ronald Reagan. It was an honor serving under your leadership. Lorenzo Perez, United States Marine Corps.

The President wrote in his diary of this event: "Thurs. the 20th went out on the Constellation. My 1st visit to a carrier. It was inspiring and renewed my faith in the vol. military. Forty men re-enlisted while I was on board."

I was a young 17 years old that day. Was able to meet my entire chain of command in one day. Great start to a 26 year career. God Bless you Mr. President - You were the very best!

President Ronald Reagan was instrumental for my enlistment into the US Army as an Airborne Infantryman right out of high school in 1986. I had been in the delayed entry program in 1985.

Babbling Brooke’s I remember him well. I was in VS-38 attached to the Connie when this happened. But was not there for this one. I made the 81-82 deployment. He was character to say the least.

“America’s Flagship”. She was a great ol’ gal. I too was present this day and also had the privilege of being chosen to have lunch with President Reagan. We need more presidents like him!

Funny, whenever Reagan mentioned Ireland, as he did here about Wexford, his voice goes into an Irish accent!

Is this the speech where Reagan said that the Connie was America's flagship?

Later that day, Cap'n Brooks held mast and showed the newly busted pot smokers on the 15-MC.
