400+whp + under 2000 lbs = hell yeah brother!
Cleetus McFarland any body
LOL, I actually coughed when I heard that! Geezus flippin' Christ!
The Guy is so proud of his work and he should be. Fantastic build! Perfection
Dang, he is making sure to give a plug to all the people who helped build the car. Good on him.
Jane Leelavathi I think that's nice of him... I respect that... And I'm sure his friends light up when they hear their names
Jane Leelavathi Did you expect him to lie, and say "I made this car, nobody but me"?
Gotta give credit where credit's due
You can hear the pride in his voice. Nicest Z I have ever seen.
I don't necessarily think the OP was saying that in a negative way.
But, yeah. Mad respect.
Give it where its due.
240 Z body still holds up. Just a simple, not over-thought, appealing design.
But still it does tends to kill its owner
I agree. Same with a 92 supra.
lmao i thought you meant it held up against rust. which i would have whole soulfully disagreed
That's what I liked about my FR-S.
@@twrcrew8852 Yeah, I had a stock 1971 and it was a real rust bucket. A body shop spent some time on it cutting out the rusted body parts and welding in plates. It handled very well for the day, and handled far better than my 66 Mustang GT...which was a straight line car. The 240Z was a road car.
Holy crap, that engine bay.
Jay Gill Take that hood off and you can stand in the bay to work on the engine
you can fit 200 cats in it!!
Can't hide a body in the "trunk" - but you could under the hood!
Jay Gill all that titanium is amazing
$$$$$
"I would say about 8 inches. I never measured it."
@ 2:39 - funny you caught this : )
He does very impressive work...nicely thought out.
if theirs one thing I'm learning, its that anyone can have a fast motor, but its the gearbox that makes it special.
Yeah, the seat belts are made by the same company that makes the faulty air bags.
Excellent job on the 71 240 Z
Who needs bugatti? Just give me a well build 240z...
I can't deal with this polo shirt. Bring back the denim
Jay, bring grungy denim top back
Yeah why no denim "Jay Leno's Garage" shirt. That'd be the real deal
he should try wearing Batik shirts for a change !! www.google.com.sg/search?q=batik+shirt&rlz=1C1NDCM_enSG752SG753&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwir-oje3sfYAhVLLI8KHWqLC20Q_AUICigB&biw=1600&bih=769
I would buy a "Jay Leno's Garage" denim shirt.
Another vote for a return of the denim !
We need more young guys like this , excellent work, lots of thought went into it and stuck with it .
jay leno is so different on this show. he's so respectful. he lets his guests talk as much as they want. he asks them questions to help them along.
As a kid, I drove my dad's 1972 240Z with a 4-speed and obviously the 2.4l straight six. Wooden steering wheel, wooden shift knob, leaded gas. Great memories :-)
You should be proud
I was in Navy Flight School when those came out.
One gave me & my Porsche a run for our money on a back road out of the base. Left a beautiful but - er - British Healey 3000 way behind us.
73 here
My first car was 88 280Z black on black absolutely great & my 3rd car was Gold 79 280zx but I loved the ones 78 & before it like this beautiful one
Should have dropped an rb30 in it.
Such a beautiful car!!!!!!!!
I agree!!
Mad respect to both Jay for putting people on & the interviewee for giving credit & positive attitude... The red lancia guy in the other episode could learn alot from this one.
Hey Jay, please do a video of your garage, I mean with all of your cars together.
You bet any car guy would love it! ;)
Mew Two Look up "My classic car", he has a few things on multiple cars that jay hasnt reviewed yet, a few of them were made in the 90s, they still make new episodes, but not with jay
"all his cars" do you know how many he has !! just subscribe he covers or has covered alot of them.
Obnoxious Otter, thanks I'll do ;)
paul juster, lol I know, I know. I enjoy these episodes, looking each car at deep. But would be awesome as I said, a tour of all of his cars. He has the best of the best of each brand, so wouldnt you like to see them all together?
Beardoh TheBossman haha kinda late hum? Nah doesnt matter if you said it first or me, if at the end he does the video ;)
man 240s never get old, they will always be beautiful. This is one of the best looking SRs I have ever seen, the metal finish is gorgeous.
I like it when Jay has a guy on he likes. This guy does awesome work, great car!
Robert Anderson you can tell Jay likes the guy when he doesn't talk too much but let the guest so most of the talking
I love this guy. He’s so genuine and passionate
This proves that Jay Leno is a youngster and will never grow up. Thumbs up to that!
Driving is about having fun, and this car is all about fun
430 boho and under 2,000 lbs. holy crap. It must be wicked.
Faster than your average Exige so yeah this thing is a monster.
That's similar to a Corvette with 750 hp, But if you look at videos throughout UA-cam Corvettes aren't very good at applying that power to the ground (they crash alot). I'm sure this Datsun goes just fine without alot of fishtailing.
the brain the driver plays a large factor in what your saying. The people are not race car drivers . The car is fine.
Of course driver error can be blamed, but evidence points to the vehicles if you see enough of it. When a Ferrari or a Porsche crash it's obviously something the driver was doing, the Corvette is a different story. Now it's the Challengers and the Chargers, I'm not seeing alot of Viper crashes.
the brain it really is the driver. There are way more corvettes than Ferrari’s. That’s why you see more crashes.
I love this guy, he is fun! Thanks Jay for inviting him over. Boy I wish I own a Z.
Jay Leno, Making Denim Great Again
Juan Villegas You wait until a video when he's not wearing much denim to say that
he probably has a denim suit
Hamez sb denim undies
denim condom
Hamez sb Ha Ha no where else to go
100 octane? Helps to live near a muni airport, no doubt. Spotted the titanium work immediately: it's a very nice touch, and... wish I had my own 240!
This car is fantastic!👻👍

That engine bay blew me away. Car is absolutely gorgeous.
I can appreciate the weight saving that has been done on this car in the name of performance, but at some point the human occupants must be a consideration of the design. The qualities of the 240z that make it so desirable to tuners are the same qualities that make it so loud and tinny on the inside. Driver fatigue is real and that cabin is unbearably loud. A few pounds of strategically placed sound deadening is worth the trade-off in weight gain. Amazing car, Dominic.
Couldn't agree more. I stripped the interior out of my 240Z after I bought it to address a couple of minor rust issues and paint with POR-15 for longevity. I drove it to and from work while doing this, with only the dash, drivers seat, and seat belt - bare metal everywhere. It was unbearable, many loud noises, every tiny piece of grit from the road surface was audible, and the exhaust and engine noises reverberating around the cabin. Hearing loss would be a concern.
I added 30 lbs of Dynamat, covering most of the large surfaces, then put the floor mats, carpeting, vinyl trim, and plastic interior panels back. Result was the cabin became a much more pleasant space to be in, and the noise, while not modern car quiet, was at a comfortable level. The car still has that vintage rawness, but isn't oppressive like it was with the stripped interior.
50lbs of weight for a proper interior in a street driven car is a no-brainer.
Good points Daniel, I also wonder about stripping so much mass out of a vehicle making it an origami box. Surely must be less safe!
I accidentally bought a 1973 240z and the live affair began,I more recently bought a 1977 280z 5spd but was not able to start on it I bought it for my dad who being really foreign to the drive train of the 240z and a MOPAR E body collector dad and I made a trade.....and the story goes ole dads sports car gene never went away he put 6000 grand into it and then it was so fast he wouldn't let me drive it at all....that 73 240 still remain one of my favorite cars not bad handling and I like the classic look of it,I paint cars now,oh I forgot I also had and 84 300zx ,but I used to tell people I used to paint cars for that little Japanese guy that used to do those Nissan commercials ....shhh remember down in the basement...shhhh THANKS nice z kid...
It's too loud which means I'm too old :(
and you value your hearing lol
paul coleman Yup...nursing home calling your name soon. Get your bib ready....
+paul coleman, Haha thats quite funny, but not entirely true. it's the reason Brian Johnson has taken a break from touring, even tho the band plays notoriously loud he's said in interviews he damaged it while racing & it progressively got worse...as when he's not touring with AC/DC his great passion is being on the track. :D
I'd really love to see some more of Jay's own collection, they just tease you with them in the background.
Cool Z. I love them. I still have my 240Z purchased over 40 years.
That 240Z beautifully done well done
I usually hate to see Zs changed from stock but this one is absolutely beautifully done. I also love that this guy seems to be self-taught. He is a true artist and craftsman.
The sound on this ep. is frown inducing.
I love the car/rim color combo
I fell in love with that car in Wagon Midnight ever since I wanted one lol
Jay should merge the polo shirt with his old denim shirt but make it with black denim
That's not a bad idea at all. Hopefully Jay will take notice of your recommendation. It has merit, IMHO.
I'll second that suggestion.
No denim, this guys a CIA plant! Fake car news :D
Richard soma lol I just said that because there are TONS of guys hatin on his new Polo and for me it's fine IT'S JUST A POLO SHIRT but...if he wants to please the fans he could mash both things
Richard soma no problem :) I'm stunned that 83 people liked my clothing idea, I feel like a Zoolander type of guy *does blue steel face*
Jay I found a Datsun 280zx. If you're interested let me know. Also you are the best late night show host! GOAT
1978 Datsun 280zx
Awesome stripped down Z nice work.
SR20 is a sick motor especially the red top turbo version... Revs so high and good power band. What a car...
No seat belt for Jay. Yes seat belt for passenger.
When you're Jay Leno you do what ever you want.
Belts there, he's just not using it
I never wear belts--never have. Had no child seats, ever--I don't miss 'em.
jmshaw357 So you're just an idiot?
Well he was transported to 1971 or so he thought...
Jay, you always comment that wing mounted mirrors are a Japanese thing, but the British made a habit of that a long time ago. My 1948 Triumph 1800 Roadster has them, and they were common on Triumph, Jaguar, MG, Land Rovers, etc, at least as far back as the 1940's. A few British marques used them in the 1930's. The Japanese certainly embraced the look from the 50's to the 70's, but I have always wondered if they were heavily influenced in this area by the British.
The 240z was always a great looking car and this is just beautiful.
Those mirrors look like British Talbot mirrors. I had these on my Sprite back in the 60's.
I have a 240z but I’m keeping it NA in-line 6
Christopher Acevedo nice
LS swap it... kidding
good for you
Don't have the money for this setup? I feel ya!
I have a low production number 71 240 and have owned it since 1976.
Completely stock and 130k.
Had more offers to sell it than I can count.
I will NEVER sell it.
I plan on getting a 72, 73, 74, 77 and an 80 280ZX and restomod them all.
I love Z's.
That’s a great car M8 !! Great work and excellent taste.. Thank you sir 😀👍🤙
Lol. What was the og size of a 240z .... 3l? Or 240cc, (ie 2.4l?) ?...if only there was a hint in the name
Well 2400cc, but hint is there.
You do realize he owns over 300 different cars, he can't remember all the specs to everything. The especially since not all numbers on cars are designated to the engine...
Yeah, it was a 2.4 litre.
He’s showing a liiiiitle age guys, he’s still sharp though.
AlexCoronaPhoto the size of the engine is almost always indicated in the names of vehicles, especially Japanese vehicles. He asked what the original engine size was for a 240z, but the it’s in the name, 2.4l...
wow that car just looks nice AF! so retro yet so modern!
Making my working Monday in Australia just a little more tolerable, cheers Jay!!!
Great video. Much better than these really rich guys with million dollar exotics
WOW! There's a really nice Datsun 240-Z with a 4-banger! And what a talented crew that put this one together! I love everything about this one! And Dominic has followed his passion which was a good choice. Congrats to Dominic and his crew. A beautiful and handsome build.
Guy did a lot of cool things to it, definite quality workmanship. Not a big fan of the slight ricer details (excess rear camber, toe hook, pie cut tail pipe)
But what do I know, the 240z Im working on is nearly 100% vette drivetrain
Is it too loud for you? 😂
Beautiful color treatment of the titanium. Well Done!
I’ve wanted one of these for almost 5 years now
Wow! That's an absolutely AMAZING STORY! Tell us less...
So you just jumped on the bandwagon like everyone else...Nice job.
Beerus wow I’m real intimidated by the guy with a dragonball z profile pic, how’s the virginity going?
gental robots You're a robotics guy that plays guitar alone. I'm sure you're not getting laid either.
Very clean design. I like it!
I thought Jay, cut the drive short because he doesn't want to deal with all the damn noise!
There were forest fires all around the area when the vid was made.
It looks beautiful.
PLEASE PLEASE get some normalized audio on these videos!! Opening sounds great, then when Jay starts talking it's barely audible! I have to crank the volume far higher than most other YT videos. The volume of the dialog is also all over the place. It makes the video very hard to watch.
A few have been bad lately. I don't know why. I crank up the volume to hear the voices... then the car kicks in and wakes up the neighborhood.
I thought I was the only one lol. Content is great tho
Yea, it seem like they're going for a more cinematic audio style, but its harsh for casual youtube...
Couldn't agree more, the audio is brutal on all of these, you can't never find a happy medium.
Great car and builder. Well done!
I remember Datsun. When I was in high school my good friend Bobby had a Datsun 210 bright orange manual shift.
BEAUTIFUL CAR!
One of the best Z mods I've ever seen
The shifter is tall, but the fulcrum point is what determines the throw. If you chop your shift lever, you only think you have a shorter throw, but internally it's the same, and you've only lost leverage and control.
His parents should be proud, his passion is evident.Great build, should have his own company.
Next time put the seat belt on. There are kids watching, Mr Leno!
Jay, please for the sake of viewers' expereince - start using Audio recordings from the OUTSIDE of the tested vehicle. Sometimes you have beautifully sounding cars in drive-by scenes but the sound is from inside the cabin. Sounds horrible and sad. Just give your cameraman a microphone! That would be an huge improvement for the show. Thank you
Love the colour
Finally a real car.....
Wish the car had been respected enough to be kept stock or returned to its previous glory
Beautiful Fairlady Z s30
It'snot tho
s30 was the jdm model and it came with a 2.0 engine so no.
juzzpoxix s30 is the chassis. fairlady is the japan model
If I was Jay, I would have this young man build one for me.
Ugh it's so beautiful
And the styling isn't really dated... obviously some things wouldn't fly on a modern car (like the window trim and headlights) but the overall shape and profile, a car company could make that today and nobody would blink
I can't believe someone would replace the 6 cylinder with a puny 4 cylinder...oh, never mind.
It's VERY nicely done!
I really can't find anything that I don't like about it.
Shout out to Jay's garage he has such a cool wide range of vehicles!
God damn fix your audio levels so i won't have to blow my amp every time i watch this channel.
why are you playing this above a volume level of 17?
Not my favorite looking 240z, but honestly, when they looked at it slowly from the side view, I was like damn! - that's a real life HOTWHEELS car! LOL!!! Still cool! Gorgeous car the 240z, man such beautiful lines!!!
That’s a nice car I love the color.
Stunning car. Well thought out build. I’ve always loved these and this one is over the top!!!
I want one so bad !
"Lighter than stainless, stronger than aluminum."
Airforce1Gunny Aluminium*
i think he said this in reverse, it should have been: titanium lighter than(or as light) aluminium and stronger than stainless. But its correct his way too. :D
titanium is more than twice as heavy as aluminum, and nowhere near as strong as ultra high strength steel. The way he said it is correct.
Mitchell Steindler damn and where did get this wrong information, probably from father or school :). Thanks.
nope its definitely aluminum
Jay doesn't look like he believes when the guy tells him the horsepower.
Why doesn’t jay remember anything this guy says lol 3 or 4 repeats🤣🤣
Yep! He didn't remember that the rear tires were 11" or that Dominic already told him the weight was around 1900 lbs. Jay was just going through the motions and saying "Yeah" constantly during the drive...something else was on his mind I guess.
It’s because the natural structure of the denim fiber helps Jay retain information while the synthetic fiber of the polo just reflects it.
Jay was just killing time. He looked bored and uninterested.
Jay is getting older. He's done this thousands of times. The other guy had a slur. Cut the man a break.
People tend to forget what someone has said when they are pretending to like them
Thanks Jay. What another amazing build. This guy has a near perfect taste for modding these Nissans/Datsuns the way they should be. Screw all these haters and purists who say he should have done this or that. Its his car and me and many others love it. The titanium and all the little touches like the custom jdm work wheels really set this car off. The interior was so clean and setup the way I would love, with all the modern appts. The SR seemed to be setup right. Im positive the proper head work, stock bottom end, and the perfectly matched turbo size, make for a very reliable 4xx at the wheels which is very conservative. Im sure with better tuning and e85 it would be in the 500s easily, and reliably. The way he moved that engine back, the weight removed, and that genious rear end im sure make for a very well balanced canyon carver. And BTW he said under 2k pounds. WTF!! Lol. Kudos to you Jay and the owner. Well done. Very well done!
calm down lol
El Matador Subjective
240ZDAN Why? This car is one of the cleanest ive seen
The straight 6 sounds better
Here's some info on why the car sounds so loud. It has a straight pipe/open wastegate and he clearly said the engine was moved further in towards the center which in turn would increase noise because it's closer to the firewall. Also I'm pretty sure he ran solid mounts and maybe gutted the interior a bit.
dsmracer97 def took out the sound dampening lol.
Too loud.
Sweet car! I've always wanted one.
My 1970 stock 240Z top ended at 165MPH ...according to The Kansas State Police Radar
Great job, fantastic car, any auto buff gotta love this, ricer fan or not!
You gotta get this guy on here more often. He's a pretty good entertainer on top of being a builder.
I get the sense that Jay didnt like the drive much.
He definitely didn't like the Toyota and Subaru parts...
It was probably just way too loud to even talk in the car. He likes to do that, half in the garage to get the specs and then his reactions as he takes it out for the practical drive.
what makes you think that?
i got the opposite sense! he enjoyed it at the end! is my take.
Under 2000 lbs. Incredible.
Wow I totally love it's buzzing engine sounds!
It really needs sound deadening and a quieter exhaust, would be much comfier to drive
Sweet car and paint
Beautiful build 💰
I had a 240Z in high school Love the z car and after seeing thousands that is definitely the one I would buy! please sell it to me!
WEB I could help you build a Z like that
What a great car, straight up beautiful. And the guy who owns it seems like such a cool guy too
Who came here from the MCM 10th anniversary video?
hey BikeStuff, yeah, i'm from Australia, and, i wonder what they will do to the Datsun when they get it back to Australia ? What do you think ? Marty and Moog always seem to surprise :)
Me. mcm is amazing. Maaaaaaad
RB26....... and a neat turbo installation by Turbo Yoda. I know which one I would rather be in.
Jay, When are you going to have a Datsun Roadster in the garage?
Sick car
