I has hovering over the ESEE 6 cus I'm fan of ESEE then, I saw this video. Decided I'd give the M7 a go. I bought the black coated model. It's a beast and a pleasure to use. This is the second knife I purchased based of a recommendation from this channel and I couldn't be happier. Great content. Thank you
So glad to hear that!
Lionsteel is no longer the best kept secret in knives. Excellent value and high quality.
Ya wish I had seen it years ago
That's true, only for collectors. You get what you pay for. The only real value, is their handle designs mostly and the looks. Geometries and other details, that are the most important on a good hard use knife, are "factory level" quality and not the best too. These are either collectors knives, or for experienced users, who know how to properly reprofile them and know the limits of their blades. They come very thick behind the edge, thicker than a lot of way cheaper knives and that's a shame. Also their edge stability, on any steel they make, isn't the best, they don't hold to hard use, like a cheaper Ka-Bar or Becker for example would. Not bad, Italians where always great designers, and you can see that on their great handle desings too! But not the level of semi-custom knives, people think they are.. Not even close..
@@gideonstactical do you think sir that such steel is good for big blades? Some say that it is not, because softer steels can take more abuse. Idk it is nice knife anyway
Which M7 do you recommend the clear blade M7 or the black M7 blade? I don't want no rust! I guess the black traction coating keeps it rusting as fast! Advice please? Thanks in advance!
@@Sambo169 take some joker or cudeman in stainless :) but it wont rust that easily in m7, if you wont leave it in water or something. I have one without coating because i like the clean look, and the coating wont last that long
Hey GT family, quick heads up that though the M 7 spine is not 90° and is rounded. There’s enough of the edge to throw pretty good sparks. The original fire Steel I was testing with was crap and not throwing sparks.
I m a T5 happy owner.... But this bad boy is a T5 on steroids!!! The ultimate tool for outdoors , bushcraft , camping, survival!!~ . I handled a friends new M7 ,and i was blown away!!!!! OMG ......the perfect tool..... If you all guys consider about buying .......Dont ......Once pay, once cry, and then smile for a loooooong time. Thanks for the great video bro!!!!
I got mine (Lionsteel M7)for $178 from Chicago knife works. Yesterday after watching this and some other videos on Lionsteel blades. This is my favorite knife channel though I go here then go to other channels just to get a consensus.
Awesome!
@@gideonstactical
Also decided to get the T5 and the T6.
Lionsteel is an insane maker that produces knives for other big brand manufacturers. I used to have the DPx Gear HEST 2.0 made by them that I used to LITERALLY live in a shanty for a couple of weeks with no heat, running water or power whatsovever.
I wouldn't call them insane. Their steel and heat treatments as their thickness behind the edge, are far not the best out there. Actually thickness behind the edge and heat treatments, are on the poor side. That's why they don't cost, as much as a Fallkniven, or a TRC knife costs...
That's a shame though, because the makes some of the BEST handle designs with good handle materials too. However, the blade on a knife, is more important...
@@greekveteran2715 Could you share some information or sources to that information where the HT and edge geometry is found to be on the poorer side?
I've seen plenty of testing done on their M390 which has definitely been lackluster compared to the level that steel should be performing at, however, that seems to be an industry-wide problem as many other makers have the exact same issues with M390 and its analogs. It's not isolated to Lionsteel.
I've seen no other data or reports of poor HT on their other steels though, so I'd be interested in seeing what information you have on this.
As for edge geometry, they appear to be pretty standard and on par compared to other similar makes and models. I've heard no negative reports and have not seen any data (measurements) showing them be any thicker behind the edge or having too obtuse an edge bevel as compared to other brand's knives. So again, I'm interested to see what you can share.
As you no doubt know, it's pretty typical for mass produced knives to err on the side of caution and use thicker edges with more obtuse edge bevels so as to make a knife more robust and less prone to issues requiring warranty work leading to negative press, i.e. "my knife chipped!" "my blade broke!" "this brand sucks!" So I wouldn't be surprised to find out that larger knives like this M7 are .050+ behind the edge with 25 degree edge bevels. It is marketed after hard use after all. I'd imagine The TRC Apocalypse and the Fallkniven A1 are about the same. TRC is probably more like 20 degrees per side but I bet it's pretty close on behind the edge thickness. Fallkniven is of course convex, so no angle to the edge bevel per se, but their well known to be on the thicker side for the edge, especially the pro models. The F1 is about the thinnest for their more popular models.
Now, I will say, I have no Lionsteel, Fallkniven, or TRC knives and have handled none, so I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious to hear more of what you're reporting and see some data or examples because I'd definitely like to know more about this as I wouldn't mind getting some Lionsteel knives if this isn't a big issue.
Thanks!
@@topfueljunkie100 You misundesrstood, what I said.Never said, they are the worse or sometihng. please, let me explain. I'm a profesionall sicne the 80's, when I got my first degree on Chemistry/Metallurgy. I make, maintain, restore and upgrade professional knives, of Cooks,Chefs Hunters, Butchers, Farmers etc. for 40 years now. I also live in the outdoors, and I have to use my knives, axes etc, in order to survive our every day here.It shows, that you speak, more from a collectors point of view. I might got you more angry,, but really hope I didn't because you're a really good and kind man.
We all worship materialism nowdays, to the point anything we've bought, we have it as our precious "kid", so we get offended when someone says the truth, because truth hurts, doesn't it?
Liosteel is a relatively new company, can't provide the quality the oldest companies, do. M390 costs a lot to heat treat it better. Belts cost more, to create a better blade geometry. If you wan't such a steel on your knife, avoid any Factory mass produced knife. Those steels can't be made properly in such quanties. If you're not a hunter, who uses such knives, and you're only a collector, forget what I said, because it doesn't matter...any knife is good for a collection.
PS hardness of a steel (hrc) doesn't tell nothing about it's heat treatment quality. I mention that, becasue it's a common mistake. 90% UA-camrs, that pretend to be experts, are the opposiste. so I would advise, to get your knowledge ,from proper places and not UA-cam. there is a ton of missinformation on the subject here.
@@androidoszpsz5873 If you want a good knife that you're going to use, then it all depends on the kind of use you need it for and the amount of money you can spend.
A factory made knife, like the Moras, is always a good place to start. The BEST survival instructors use Morakniv, the exact same knives I suggest. Morakniv Companion and Morakniv Robust, both cost around 12$ to15$, perfect knives!
If you're not going to use it much, and you just want a Heirloom quality knife, that will always be there for you and your ancestors, then ask a maker to make you one, by describing to him the style of knife you want.
This beast, the M7, may just very well be my next knife. It looks like an awesome knife. I have the Lionsteel T5 and it has become my go-to belt knife for hiking and camping. I also have been looking at the Lionsteel H1 or H2 and would love to see a review on it (hint hint). Great review as usual.
Lionsteel M4, is by far their best knife (except for people with XXL hands ). Lionsteel knives, only issue, is they come very thick behind the edge, The steels that they use, most of the times and some heat treatments are not the best they could be, but they still are great user, with great fit and finish knives. Just reprofile their edges, as with all factory made knives, and it's ready for use.
The reasons they come cheaper, than other knives made in quality production countries, are in my opinion (Steel, heat treatment (which also costs but people don't know that, and the thickness behind the edge) That's also why, people don't understand, why Fallknivens cost more, which is because, both lamination with 2 steels used and handmade convex zero edge bevels, cost way more to produce.
Great review Aron.Definately could be on the list..
Always honest reviews.Keep up great work
I bought the black coated blade and I absolutely love this thing. Good review 👍
I've had mine for over a year it's one of the best knives I own it keeps its edge and the scales are second to none it's an awesome knife.
I bought this knife last week and it is secure AF in the sheath, NO rattling.
Also, the knife goes in and comes out a lot easier then the one you have.
I hope that means the newer ones are fixed
@@BestKCL
I don't know.. I just insert the knife gently and the last inch goes in with a firm push.
Yeah, I know this sounds like doing something else lol.
So far having it awhile what Sheath like now ? I'm thinking of getting one of these M7s for a trip next month to try out just wondering about the Sheath....still no problems ?
I have the same green micarta grip and satin blade finish. The knife fits it's scabbard perfectly with no wobble or loose locking. And yes, it's a beast 😄
Finally the review of my favourite camp knife! Great job and great choice!
Cheers from Italy 🤙🇮🇹
Rad man, gosh that was so fun!! Video came out rad!!!!! Such a fun weekend!!! That knife is insane!!!
Absolutely bro! It was a blast thanks again can’t wait to do it again!
Amazing knife, lionsteel quality is one of the best for production knives, definitely looking forward to their T6 :)
Awesome review 👍
I think I have fallen in love with this knife. I may have to acquire one for my camping kit. Thanks for the great review, Aaron!
It’s nice to see gear I’ve not seen before. Looks like a good tool. Wouldn’t mind one. Thanks for the review.
For sure!!
What an outstanding knife! I may have to buy one! Thanks for highlighting this blade!
For sure!
I order this blade cause of this review, same with the last blade I ordered. You do such an awesome job on these reviews , and cause of them I've bought 2 Lionsteels thus far. 😀 Now after my testing of it today, I'm blown away, the fit, finish and how it handle is Amazing. I've also got Italy 🇮🇹 heritage from fathers side, so this was a must. Have a wonderful day you and fam and God bless brother
Absolute BEST knife reviews on Youube. My go to for every blade I am interested in, I am a big fan!
That’s A LOT of A-Aron’s for one trip. Great video. Thanks for the continued honest reviews.
What a Chopper! Aaron Morgan needs to buy me one? Lol. Joking! Looks like you guys had fun! Thanks for sharing! Aaron Morgan is a good dude! You are too Aaron at Gideons tactical! Shew, too many Aaron's! Joking. Just a awesome blade!
As always you are tempting me with your enthusiastic review of this superb Italian blades (T5 is now in my collection also thanks to you) . M7 is always in my dreams, but someone says that the handle is not so good for batoning whereas others say that's ok (even if is the same shape or even the same, of the T5, much praised by all, without exceptions). I don't care, now you convinced me, I don't need to cut down trees with this knife and this blade has an all round shape, useful for all tasks and easy to maintain. Good job mate!
Excellent vid as always. Love this knife. My M4 is epic. Great look, thanks.
I absolutely love Lionsteel knives. They had an M6 prototype at ShotShow this year that is amazing. I’m still waiting for it to be released, but will own one when it is.
Lionsteel also makes knives for Saturn. You should check out the Saturn Titano. It looks like a great knife too, though I have never handled one.
I bought the M6. Pretty good so far. Nice stone wash. Sheath leaves much to be desired.
I have the T5 and it also an excellent bushcraft tool. Comes with a beautiful leather sheath that is molle compatible. Lionsteel fixed blades as just a joy to use.
I have t6.
Thank you for the great video, I love Lionsteel! One of the best knife companies in the World in my eyes. FM
I have an M3 from Lionsteel which is made from Niolox steel. I accidentally hit the edge of my kitchen faucet with the blade with quite some force while shaking off the water after washing the knife. The result was a micro chip in the blade and a 3 millimeter deep gash in the faucet! Needless to say, I love Nilox steel and Lionsteel knives. One of them days I’m gonna get the M7 as well.
Sir, thank you for your review. I was considering the LionSteel M7 to add to the collection. I have purchased the LionSteel M7 because of this review. I wanted your vendors to see this comment. Thank you. I look forward to using it on the first spring camping trip this year above Lake Taylor very soon.
Nice, let me know how it does for you!
Well I just ordered this knife based on your review hopefully it’ll work out well, thanks man
25% Italian....... left leg, right leg......left arm, right arm......? 😉😂 brilliant video bud, and you my have cost me more money, I like that knife.....👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴🍺🍺🍺
Keep up the good work Aaron!
I liked your review so much, I rushed out and bought one. When I was reading the description of the product on my chosen web site, they said the black coated ones came scuffed from the factory, hmm. Anyhow mine came today,I could barely get it out of the kydex. I set it on the dash of my truck in the afternoon sun for a couple hours. It now fits like a glove. I chopped some tree runners in my yard, impressive! I ordered this knife knowing there might be kydex problems but I have access to two quality leathersmiths.
I have really been getting into the idea of outdoors pursuits, camping and survival with my brother recently. Love your channel, man! This knife is a beauty. I wish our UK knife laws weren't so limiting.
If you want it just get it and use it , as long as you don't go to Sainsbury's with it on your hip or act threatening in any way you'll be sweet. I use all kinds of blades and axes in the woods and never had any bother at all . This knife by the way is as good as it gets mate and is worth every penny.
This thing is an absolute BEAST! Wish I would have caught you while you were down here. Next time for sure!
Appreciate the channel and upur hard work brother. God bless
I own several LionSteel knives from slip joint to locking folders and fixed blades. I have the T5, little brother to this M7. Based on my experience and this review, I'll probably get this M7 as well.
Thanks for the excellent review I am going to get me one .
Aaron, the m7 has my Apache blood singing.
I bought one this weekend, i hope to get it delivered soon because i can't wait to hold this beast in my hands and chop some wood...😊
Ran across this vid while researching the Cold Steel SRK. Decided to order one and I was not disappointed! New Lion Steel fan!
Recently got the T5 but have been looking at this one too. It has some lukewarm reviews out there; glad to hear your thoughts.
Awesome video bud, I'm getting my son and myself an lion steel m7.
I still don't understand why people think it matters how sharp it comes. If you can't sharpen a knife, then yer probably not using knives enough.
Great knife!
Gonna put this on my wishlist.
Lionsteel for the win!!
Awesome review Aaron, i purchased B40 cause of ypur awesome review and now purchased this one due to another awesome review. Love lionsteel so far
Just a overall good knife! Need one
Great review! Greetings from Italy
Awesome knife awesome review
Thanks for watching!
Sweet knife.
Ooops, this knife is AWESOME, and I'll probably buy a couple. I have two Garmin watches that I mentioned. We have similar tastes as most of us preppers.
Thank you 😊
Huge knife 🔪! Looks awesome price a little high now for my bank account. Thank you for the review. God bless
super nice knife might be my next buy
Crap!!! Just when I think I don’t need one more knife you do this to me!! This looks awesome.
For a camp knife, I think it's a little short for my use, but not a deal breaker. My choice for blade length, metal type, blade material would be the Cold Steel Razor Tek Black GFN 4116 Stainless Steel Fixed Blade Knife FX65RZR. The price is better too.
Thank you
Thank you.
Impressive.
My current combo is cavebear dark timber the spartan tracker from clint rodison and msk1 knife great combo love mine.
I would really love to see the M7 compared to the Work Tuff Gear Wilderness Warrior. That would be a very interesting comparison. Thanks for the review, the M7 looks amazing.
I would trust my life to it, from what I have seen already on this video. Heck, I love my Becker BK-9.
It's nice
Anything with a lionsteel stamp, is quality 👌
Nice bear track find just found some awsome bear track myself yesterday in Washington state
Great Channel - much appreciated reviews! What is your opinion on this and Esee 6. I’m totally undecided between the M7 and Esee 6.
Esee 6 is a bit lighter and a tiny bit smaller.
The M7 seems to have a better steel and I love the geometry and design! If you need to get out quickly which one would you grab of the shelve?
M7 if I had both
If you were up to choose this knife, the TRC Apocalypse or the Fallkniven A1X. Which would you choose? Price not important.
It’s a beast of a knife. They come super sharp and hold a great edge. My only gripes were the guard is too big, id rather not have a choil, and the butt of the knife is sharp for chopping if not wearing gloves.
It is is large, but was comfortable and not blocky on the guard. Chopped without gloves and didn’t seem to have the pain issues you did. Good feed back though really appreciate it and I am sure it will help the viewers 👍
Based on your review, I got the same version as yours. My sheath fits better, but still can bind if put In wrong. It might break in with use. Very nice blade that just looks like a real knife! This knife is in the running as my expedition blade, which I feel a 7inch blade is perfect. It may beat out my White River FC7. Laugh, but I kind of like my Cold Steel Razor Tek. I've given up on carbon steel blades because, they rust to easily and don't hold an edge that well. As an example my RAT-7 is very good looking, but after stropping a bit, it slices paper. Then after just light feathering on soft cut firewood, that razor edge is gone! Even with my Steel Will Druid 200, that won't happen! I may try reprofiling the edge on the RAT-7. Since I hate coatings, I'm not sure a patina on carbon steel will really prevent rust? My only 2 concerns with the M7 are, first, as nice as the handle is, it could be a bit thicker, or have a bigger palm swell... and I'm concerned with rusting on the Sleipner steel? You mentioned it held up well in Florida. Would this steel take a patina? Otherwise great knife!
I'm 25% Sicilian and luuuve my Fox fx-133. Been thinking about this particular knife for a while.
Great review. LionSteel M7, Joker Nomad 6.5, or Falkniven A1(VG10); One for an all around , all weather, and all purpose survival knife to pair with my Benchmade puukko? Thanks.
Thanks so much and I would say if you are pairing the puukko then the M7 hands down. Very capable tool and will get the most work done of the three you are looking at!
Can you do a comparison between M7 and BK7 and perhaps Esee 6? I also watched your video about T5 and would love to see you do a comparison between that and Esee 5.
Great video thanks. Reminds me of my Tops Architect Field Buddy 6.5 3V from TKC and looks good.
I didn't realize TOPS made the Architect. Interesting.
@@christianbarnes736 yes & if you buy the Field Buddy 6.5 & 5.5 the come with a unconditional warrenty like Esee knives
The m7 is a little bigger than 6.5 have both
@@danachadwick4919 Yeah. They are both great looking knives. You have good taste in knives.
I also have the Architect 5.5 in 3V. Incredible knife!
I know you were promoting, but did you really love the m7 like you sound like? Does it feel too laser cut to you? Does it hurt to chop? Thanks. Huge fan man.
Did you like it better than the WhiteRiver fc7 ? Cause for a few bucks cheaper it's an epic camp/bush craft knife
i would rather the fc7 but both r great options
Great coverage. Thank you. Would you happen to know what the little slits are for on the front top of the sheath?
Which ones?
@@gideonstactical There are 4 slits (1/4") at the top (forward) of the sheath. Mystery to me. They are just forward of the security strap. Your review was largely responsibly for my finally deciding to pick up this knife. Thanks!
Man, I love watching your videos, but as a lover of knives, all my knives must have wood handles, period! (Like Joker, Bark River, etc.)
Looks like a BK7 with an upgraded steel, upgraded handle scales and a choil. I like the choil, as it's cloesr to even with the handle. most knives with choils, don't line up. Looks like a good knife, but $200+ USD seems pretty steep to me.
You are single handedly going to get me into Lionsteel. Every review you do on this company makes me want one. This spring I pull the trigger. Which fixed any size do you suggest
Thanks
Great review.
If you don't have XXL handes. go for their Lionsteel M4, it's the best knife they make. Then 2nd comes the Lionsteel T5. They just need a good reprofiling, because they come thick behind the edge.
@@greekveteran2715 bravo! Thank you my friend. The M4 it is.⚔⚔⚔
@@bronco1199 It's handle is my favorite, both in feel and ergos, and the steel if probably sharpend/reprofiled, cuts better than a Morakniv and you know how sharp Moras can be... Sheath is safe and super funtional. There no other knives out there, that come that close to perfection!!
It's the cheapest knife out there, for what you get for the price you paid. Best Value and some of the best production knives ever made!!
Can we get a side by side of the lion steel m7 and the tops brush wolf I feel Ike they both aim to accomplish similar tasks but go about it in extremely different ways I not only think it would be a great video but I am interested in purchasing one of the two of them and believe your reviews are the most thorough and well done videos on the internet
They are very different knives, I may at some point.
Nice. Checks off all my boxes..
how does this compare to the Tops operator 7?
Dammit. Now I have to get the knife AND the belt. I have a T5 and if this is even close it is easily worth the money.
M7 clear blade or M7 black traction blade??? I do not want rust but I like the clear blade! Advice please??? Thanks in advance!
I don’t have rust on mine and we were in Florida. Not sure what environment u have?
My favorite Italian survival knife is the Rinaldi Forest knife …
Where can you buy one of those knives. And what is the price.
Pete at Cedric and Ada also did a comparison between this and TRC Apocalypse (my fave knife)
Could have stood for another 3/4 of an inch or so on the blade, bring the tip to a slightly more acute point.
You know, for the zombies.
Before you can see the handle just the blade with the high saber grind reminds me of the original Jess-X from Chris Tanner.
Love mine👌👍💪👌🙏
If like lionsteel T5 and M7 you should try the Fox fx 103mb ..a bomb
I have one question after watching your videos on the M7 and T5. Which one do you prefer? Weigh your decision fully, I bought the M7 because of your review.
Appreciate the question. They are different tools. The M7 is significantly larger and heavier. The T5 is smaller and more nimble. If you want heavy duty survival knife go with the M7 if you want a more compact belt knife or field knife go with the T5 hope that helps.
@@gideonstactical I bought the M7 based solely on your review. Couldn't be much happier. I'm thinking about that T5 now. Thanks
This blade reminds me of my Bk7 at least the spine does but it feels better than the Bk7
Way better for sure.
@@gideonstactical I've got custom G10 handle scales on my bk7
Should I get the Lionsteel m7 or the Joker Nomad? What do you think. Thank you. Tennessee
Nice, both have the same vibe. The M7 will out chop and out split the joker. The joker will be more carryable, easier to carve because of its size, and save you $100 . Just depends on what you need.
Lionsteel M4, TRC Mille Cuori, Survive Knives GSO 4/4.7/5. Fallkniven S1 Pro/ F1 COS etc, Mora Kansbol/2000/Bushcraft Black, LT Wright makes some great users too! Manly Patriot (Best EDC), Bark River Bravo 1 LT . Those are some of the best non Custom knives I've used. Enzo know Brisa, makes some of the best heat treatments out there, and has great edge and blade geometries, however, they also lack in handle design/ergos, because they are mainly hunting knives, thus the thin versatile handles.
Did I forget any from the TOP shelf?
Yes Greek veteran manly druger i think its been discontinued fantastic steel i have it in cpm154 but your right again I've had it 4 years and the handle should be thicker
@@martindunwell6099 The Manly Patriot though, is one of the best knives for every day use. We mainly use knives for food prep and for utility like opening a box, cutting cordage etc. Manly Patriot fits perfect for that role! Have a nice one mate! Keep 'em sharp and stay safe!
How would you compare this in value to the Ontario Rat 7 for someone being budget conscious? Is the M7 that much better than the Rat 7?
I have both knives. The M7 and its sheath are superior in materials, fit, and finish to the Rat 7. The M7's blade is thicker, wider and less prone to rust than the Rat 7's plus has a more ergonomic handle. The Rat 7 is easier to sharpen and has a finer tip than the M7 but you have to sharpen it more often. The Rat 7 costs at least half what the M7 costs. In terms of performance you can make fire sticks, chop, or baton with either one. You can cut up veggies and meat with either one as well. I'm not a fan of coated blades and I like that the M7 holds an edge longer than the Rat 7 so for me the M7 is worth the extra hundred plus dollars. But the Rat 7 is a good knife and I can do all the tasks I bought it for. Either knife should serve you for a lifetime.
@@gregblake2764 Thank you!
Great review Aaron and may the LORD CHRIST JESUS Bless you
How is the corrosion resistance on this edge and blade overall? Do you recommend the coated variant?
The video was filmed in Florida and still have it without any rust spots. But if you live in a very high humid environment, might make sense to get the coated version.
Now that’s excellent news about Sleipner corrosion resistance, thanks for the feedback. Will we be seeing a one year update video??
