Can the response from the unit be changed from PPM to % in the sample? eg. 2.12% Au, 15.67% Ag, etc.? What sort of basic maintenance does a device like this require?
+tess99991 Thanks for your inquiry. Our technical support engineer suggests you call our support line and he will walk you through it. (Dial 1-800-875-1578 option 2 then option 2.) The answer is a little more involved because we need to know which testing mode that you are using and what type of samples.
Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers are used in all stages of the geochemical and mineral exploration process. Take a look at this video to see how real customers used the analyzers in the field (Do a search on UA-cam for "Thermo Scientific Portable XRF Analyzers Customer Testimonials - PDAC 2012")
Thank you for your comment. The instrument that you saw is a Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD analyzer. And yes, it can analyze gold. The detection limit varies depending on the matrix of your sample. You can see more mining applications here: www.niton.com/en/mining/applications -- Regards, Ali

Hi Saman -- Thanks for your comment, but not sure of your question: More accurate than what? For measuring samples of unknown chemical composition in which concentrations of light and heavy elements may vary from parts per million (ppm) to high percent levels, our XRF analyzers feature Fundamental Parameters (FP) calibration to simultaneously compensate for a wide variety of geometric effects, x-ray absorption, and secondary and tertiary fluorescent effects. This universal calibration requires minimal training and measures the full range of element concentrations in a wide variety of samples without any additional user input. Portable XRF analyzers featuring GOLDD™ technology (Geometrically Optimized Large Drift Detector), provide faster measurement times and lower detection limits - up to 10-times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to 3-times more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD). Here is some additional information: www.thermoscientific.com/content/dam/tfs/ATG/CAD/CAD%20Documents/Catalogs%20&%20Brochures/Elemental%20Analysis/XRF/D00832~.pdf Hope that answers your question. Feel free to contact us for a demonstration.
what is the price of the handheld analyzer

A nice clip of a great machine but I would have liked to see it displaying some Au 8°)
Would love to afford the whole set-up,Santa??!!??
Where can I find one that measures Au content?
If Santa didn't bring you what you wanted, contact your local rep to discuss leasing options :)

In the intro I think I saw a machine that tested for ore. Is it? Can it test for Au in ore? If so, what machine is it?
