上个星期刚刚冲洗了去年拍的所有胶卷，感觉还是黑白照片带给我的灵感更多，黑白照片总是有一种静默的力量感，而彩色的照片是色彩的那种跳跃感。

Omg!! That’s awesome!! It’s really fun!!!
B&W shooting is tricky especially outdoors in nature for reasons you mentioned about how certain colors translates to shades of gray. Once you develop a sense of being in b&w in your mind you will learn the virtues of colored lens filters to bring out tonal contrasts in nature like Red, Green, Yellow and Red filters that does wonders for your outdoor b&w images and even portraitures. The quickest way for anyone that may also have a digital camera is to use the monochrome filter features if available with an instant preview of what each filter will do for your scene.

Nice video. I always love your photos and the way you edit your videos is so calming. I used to have a membership at the Arboretum. It's a beautiful place, especially in the spring when everything is blooming, and it's a nice place to get away from the usual busy L.A. life. I've been shooting only black and white film for a little while now, since I ran out of color and mostly because of the high prices of color. I do miss color film though, but maybe i'll grab some more color rolls sometime soon. Glad you are having fun with developing your own! It's nice to pull the roll out of the tank and see images, one of the reasons I like film. I also like your new background. I think I spot a Totoro there..hehe 😅
It's been so cold and rainy lately, can't wait for spring and summer time!! I'll for sure go back there photograph flowers~ and yes that's a Totoro sitting back there :)

I started with the cinestill monobath a few years ago. Now I use hc110 and Kodak fixer. You should try pushing a roll next!
I bought some Kodak chemicals, been learning with it. This is so much fun~ I'll for sure try pushing sometime!!
I'd love to be able to go up to people and ask to take photos, but I'm waaaayyy too reserved for that! Although being practically a medical giant I think I'd come off intimidating even if I tried! Tomorrow I'm heading out for my first portrait session with someone who isn't friend/family and I used a couple of your images in the mood board when planning because they were so inspiring
Ahhh, trust me every time I went up to someone the internal struggle was very real! And I can’t tell you how many time I saw someone I want to photograph but too scared to ask and missed the chance 😔… but more I do it, a little easier it will be!! Good luck on the portrait shoot, I’d love to see the results 🤓
@@itscapturedbysam for the first time in my life, after hundreds over rolls of film over about 8 years… I loaded my 120 film in backwards 🙃 never happened before, will never happen again. At least I took digital backups of every scene

Why would the starter kit assume you would develop two rolls at first? They don’t show instructions for one roll. Should I do what you did?

I'm surprised how many people was willling for a stranger to take their picture. I usually get put on a watch list when I take a picture of birds.

Ilford starter kit?? There wasn't such thing when I started photography (what was a long, long time ago), I had to jump in it hard core...
Yep, now Ilford just put everything in a box to make it easier for the newbies like me 🤓
@@itscapturedbysam But then agin, back then there was much, much more people involved into black & white photography so it wasn't a problem to get help, even if you wanted to cook your own recipes for developers!

@@itscapturedbysam 我当初的罐子滴滴答答到我怀疑人生，手上全是药水味道，再上论坛一看，发现是这个牌子的标准操作。上滚轴的话好像都用jobo了，虽然我也没上过。
There are two problems with the Ilford "Starter Kit". If you understand that, and want to use the Kit, that''s fine. First, the Ilford processing chemicals. They are some of the best products Ilford offers, however in this kit they are hugely overpriced. (*they are also overpriced as stand-along products,) That can be justified if you are truly doing B&W processing for the first time and do not know if you ever will do so again. However, if you are planning to do more processing, buying chemistry through this kit is a complete rip-off. Second problem is Paterson. They manufacture and sell to the photo community the poorest quality products. In this kit, the assembled items cost more than they would over the counter, and some of them are either useless or destructive. Buy what you need, a quality tank/reel, such as AP, or stainless steel on-line, costing no more, and a kitchen digital thermometer. The rest of the crap in the kit is surplus (clips, measuring graduate) where better items are available more cheaply, or destructive (film squeegee). Give yourself a break.
