Night riding is great! The only time I can get out in the winter after work. I have been down trails in the dark that I haven't managed in the daylight. The beasties can be a bit scary when you are out by yourself. Gets you up the hills quick with the though of aa angry Badger at your wheels. Keep up the great work. Scotland is wonderful. Stuck on Dartmoor and run out of new trails 😢
My first night ride was on unfamiliar road down through the pine forest about 15 years ago. The only source of light was a light of old Nokia 1100. There were no any fastening for that device so I put it between my jaws. I knew if I fall I could swallow this phone or harm my teeth. But despite the quite high speed and I came safely. Now I return by bicycle from my work usually in night time. So night rides became an ordinary activity. Even black ice or blizzard couldn’t surprise me.
Night rides are superb pleased that you’ve managed to experience it finally Andy! All perspective and senses change. Try riding alone next time and see how the odd noise off the trail will suddenly make you pedal that wee bit faster….
My first night ride was the first time I ever rode Dunkeld, with guys that knew it well, and I near shat myself! It's amazing how fast you can actually go with decent lighting.
Night riding is a blasti better than day time riding imo Tne thing with high limen lights. The high lumens dropnl off rather quickly...high heat, small housing equals bad heat dissipation, thermal overload settings kick in That 8k will be more like 3k in less than 15 minute. Other big factor of lights are the beam pattern.. You want a wide beam with enough throw, and evenly diffused. Magic shine has a big round hot spot which fatigue your eyes quicker Outbound trail evo is the best overall for beam pattern ( but being so wide, i think they should of compensated with 2x the lumens at 4k) I eventually went DIY and now use dual Baja designs s1 wide cornering amber lights Amber makes you see things so much better than white lights.
Night rides are an absolute buzz! Saviour for Scottish winters when its dark at 4pm....getting better though, it's now dark at 5! Enjoyed getting out for weekly night rides for the first time at the end of October on my hardtail with our local group in Stirling - riding University Woods, Mine Woods, Kippenrait, Cambusbarron and North 3rd trails. At the time, I used an external battery pack ebay cree kit I borrowed off one of the other group on my bars, carrying 3 spare battery packs because the cells were goosed and a Halfords 1600lm torch on my helmet. Since then I've replaced the cree kit with a Lifeline Pavo 2000 and still use the trusty Halfords torch, really good for the money.
Well done on mentioning the dazzling thing on roads, where i live a lot of people commute on bike which is great but some seem to think that these mega bright mtb lights are a good choice on the road but is actually more dangerous as the driver cant see you or the road edges. i do think manufactures ought to distinguish between lights to be seen by others with ie road and lights to see with
It seems like common logic to me, but I’m sure it’s not obvious to everyone. Piers’s lights had a diffuser to stop there glare for others, but I think his light is more focused for the road.
Even worse are the nuggets that have them on strobe mode on pitch dark cycle path. Epileptic fit inducing. I've started letting them know with a few expletives thrown in.
Fair play to Piers, riding down with that light behind must have thrown some shadow in front of him. Best to ride with the person with the brightest light at the front so as to stop that happening. You should try a group night ride, so good 👌
I didn’t even consider that until I went out front and had that issue. I stick Piers out front as a subject for filming in general. I’ll ask him if he’s ok with that when night riding.
Those 8000 lumen lights are mad and the Firetower feels a bit different at night! I'm yet to take on the other local trails but it's on the list before the winter is out, I'm sure "never pull out" would be entertaining in the dark!
If you sign up to the Magicshine mailing list they send you the latest offers. I got the 8000s V2 and MJ906S with 2 battery packs plus 10% off my 1st order so it ended up being just about the RRP of the 8000S alone. The latter can be wired into an e-bike.
Wow 8000L? Thats some power that is! I was looking at purchasing the EXPOSURE 5000l but for virtually the same price I could have this one! Looking forward to the review on the light! Night rides are amazing heightens the sensors it does 👊🏻
impressive! - I went cheap and bought a couple of those CREE/LED lights you see on Amazon/eBay, which have been OK but those magic shine lights are something else - nice 'real world' demo - enjoy hitting the trails at night now - for me, the feeling of speed is totally different riding at night - it's far more full on! :)

Cool video, i have the magic shine 8000 mounted on the helmet, i've tried it on the bike and i found it more restrictive, i only use the one light so its handy if i need in my bag or sort something off the bike. one more thing to do night riding is doing it on your own, totally different experience.
Very impressive. It's a hefty price tag for a light but I guess gives you more options of when you can ride in these long dark winter months and certainly looks the brightest of all the lights i've seen 🙂
@@McTrailRider If this would be an european or US company, I would understand some higher prices, but this company can cheaply develop things and also produce them cheap around the corner. Good video, I’m impressed with the footage. I have a hero 12 and it didn’t turn out good. Can you share you video setting or where you found out how to set the GoPro up?
Hi mate - love you videos… Regarding using right lighting. The small issues you had are based on not choosing the right option for lighting. While you can certainly run less powerful and cheaper lights, I wouldn’t say that these are overkill. I’d only describe them as overkill if they done a better job than the sun.
Its over £200 its 4600 lumens on brightest when a car headlight is between 2000-4000. Definitely crazy to use that on a bicycle maybe a motorcross if its light is dull

@@Rab_Cee it’s a lot of money, no question. Thankfully they have cheaper and lower powered options, as do most manufacturers. Your spot on about the camera, I need the full power mode for the video to look ok. Anything lower and is difficult for the GoPro to pick up. It'll be summer by the time I get one, or even an exposure... Everywhere is out of stock. Night lights are like MTB lockdown toilet roll. You can see how the spread is way more impressive on the magic shine... Way better than exposure when you consider the price. Don't think anyone needs 8 grand worth of moomins. Once you've a decent spread you'll get away with 2000 moomins
Yeah, supply is a bit of an issue in general right now 😢 The spread of light is very good indeed, you could easily get away with half the lumens, but it is nice to have the extra power all the same.
Moomins! Made me smile. Coincidentally at the weekend I packed away a delicate little Moomin Xmas decoration we have. Little metal Moomin characters dangling from a spinning fan umbrella that sits above a tea candle holder. Only seven Moomins though.

These combos are Under 100
Infunn and novsite have a wide/diffused and shaped beam.
The xhp70.2 is your typical unshaped flashlight round beam..but 3500 lumens(can get in amber too)
Now if you don't mind doing a DIY battery's
Twin baja designs S1 with wide angle lens(can get in amber) USA made

Sadly one of few things bike light manufactures dont do (besides a nice road/offroad combo light) is offer tinted lens to aid in your night vision.
Yellow , amber and green lens helps you immensely over pure white or white with tinted Blue hue(actually worse)

Haha, lots of begging! Works for me😜
@@McTrailRider I'll have try that 1 😂 😂 😂.
Hope you carry pocked light incase you need to leave bike and run
I don’t know why I would need to leave the bike and run tbh. I could always disconnect the light and take it with me in that case.
I can’t he’ll but think Pearce needs and education in how to use gears. I get tired just watching his legs spin away 😳
Enjoyed the video btw, just to add, can’t beat night rides 👌🏼
I know, it’s almost comical sometimes 😂
I feel like I’ve had a work out from my sofa 🤣
great craic.....
Thanks Richie
Thanks Richie
Prefer night riding 👌
Pretty cool eh 😜
It'll be summer by the time I get one, or even an exposure... Everywhere is out of stock. Night lights are like MTB lockdown toilet roll.
You can see how the spread is way more impressive on the magic shine... Way better than exposure when you consider the price. Don't think anyone needs 8 grand worth of moomins. Once you've a decent spread you'll get away with 2000 moomins
Yeah, supply is a bit of an issue in general right now 😢
The spread of light is very good indeed, you could easily get away with half the lumens, but it is nice to have the extra power all the same.
Moomins!
Made me smile. Coincidentally at the weekend I packed away a delicate little Moomin Xmas decoration we have. Little metal Moomin characters dangling from a spinning fan umbrella that sits above a tea candle holder. Only seven Moomins though.
