Came here to say this as a Karn gamer. I can tell you that several times when pekple Letline Binding my one ring, And then when I minus and grab it they are very surprised Pikachu face.
Agreed. This would've been my thinking, considering Boros Energy probably doesn't have that much interaction for this combo, and they already used one static prison. So it basically would've put them in a deterministic clock with Karn +1 then -2.
I think your Boros opponent was playing around their stuff getting removed. Karn can get a Helm back from under a static prison if need be (since it is in exile), but not a Leyline. So onboard karn that can tick up once and get it back vs unknowns in the deck.
My favorite things to do in magic are the weird niche cases of using cards in unusual ways, like sacrificing voidwalker for no value. Another one ive done is countering my own spells to squeeze in a little extra storm count. Things that reward you for knowing all the rules and having an open mind about value.
So, M1G1, not only do you just cold clock your reanimator opponent with a game 1 leyline, you also follow it up with an immediate win where you get to see their entire deck. Nice.
oh bb i used to play BR reanimator that leaned heavily into buried alive → Sharuum, Magister Sphinx, Anger. God it was so fun to just name force of will with cabal therapy and then and then buried alive for those three and and drop them in one turn.
I wonder if that first opponent let you see their deck for the mind games of making you think it was show and tell. Probably not, but would have been a pretty sick choice
I've been shoving unstoppable stalker into a couple shells to try it out including this one over exsanguinator calvary and its a really fun extra angle to the deck to threaten a fair kill so quick.
seeing this makes me think of a mono-black urza's saga deck. saga to make vexing bauble, lavaspur boots and maybe a copy of shadow spear fetch able, Iridescent Vinelasher and Stalactite Stalker can be nice early threats too (:
Hey, love the videos, been supporting for a while now, I'm considering building a ruby storm deck because I've always wanted to play a storm deck but never got an opportunity in other formats. How would you say it's positioned in the current metagame?
It's crazy how stupidly strong Boros Energy is that they literally didn't play a Legacy legal card in those games and slaughtered so hard. Makes me feel bad for the Modern players.
Why do these decks not run power word kill for an even more generic removal? Are there many angels, demons, devils and dragons running around legacy? I have to imagine shoot the sheriff has too many misses, but i dont know of any popular legacy cards that PWK doesnt hit.
Around 35:35, how about casting the one ring anyway and felling later? You can still activate it in their turn so you only lose one of the first three cards
Leyline helm vs. rakdos turbo reanimator: nature is healing
19:48 I would have also gone for the Leyline because Karn can minus and pull the helm of obedience out from under the static prison.

The Karn already took the Helm from the sideboard, so that was out of the question. Removing the Helm would have been objectively better.
@@raznaak That doesn’t matter. Karn can grab artifacts from exile and the helm under static prison is in exile
@@raznaak karn can get an artifact back from under a static prison
the first opponent having teferi as his icon had me worried for countermagic. seeing the badlands felt exactly the way you reacted xD

Oh hey, its pretty much the exact list im bringing to legacy night this week

This went unusually well for mono black - very enjoyable!
One of my two favorite decks. Love to see it.

Yes Phil, please, whisper in my ear that mono black is viable
Round 5 shows why I don’t play magus of the moon in my gruul initiative list
Favorite color. Started my mtg journey with a discarder deck with hypnos, hymns, and stupor 😊

Tony Scapone seems to regularly do well with that style of deck, so it's at least viable.

They played STP, but yea the deck insane.

Any comments on commander banning?
Why not just lean into the life loss and play death's shadow?
What do you think about the new EDH unbannings?
Edit: I meant bannings. Whoops.
What was unbanned? I only saw the 4 bannings (Dockside, Mana Crypt, Jewled Lotus, Nadu)

leyline deck with few fetches so probably not
@@GodzillaFreak leyline doesn't exile your own stuff
@@GodzillaFreak good point actually.
@@jadegrace1312 it doesn’t, but barrowgoyf has nethergoyf stats in that’s case, which is much worse
