Life made people like this gentleman and Tyler to save us up to $780 The shop down the block was charging me $780 “just because it’s a Land Rover” his own words. $35 after market and 15 min Love you my man
Absolutely brilliantly constructed for the not particularly mechanically minded. Two golden retrievers exiting by the side doors is simply not an option so I will be putting myself to the test to do this over the next few days - thanks again, keep them coming you two!!!
Thank you so much! it worked exactly as shown! Bless you! I used the Ford part as shown in the other video and it's working flawlessly, I put the cable tie and all. The only thing I'd recommend is those pins that fall off at the beginning, it's easier to place them on the tailgate than inside the part you pull out. As a benefit, it also helps you align the holes where the screws go in.
Very helpful video. Thanks very much. I just had to replace the tailgate actuator on my 2014 D4. Nine and a half years old. Got a good run out of it. Thanks again. 👍🇦🇺
Thank you so much for your clear and precise videos. I have just replaced my tailgate actuator. I watched your video first, and when I was taking things apart I just knew what to expect. Brilliant.
Thank you for going through and detailing every step. I commend you for verbalizing “13 mm wrench, 8 mm socket, T10” because I didn’t have to go back for my toolbox once. I got my splash guard removed with a paint scraper but your rubber eraser looks way more fun. Cheers
I got this kit from LRPassion shortly after you published this video which BTW was most useful to me. Interestingly my 2014 D4 did not have a cover on the actuator. I had the car since new and I was clearly the first one to access it. They must have either run out of covers the day my car was assembled in the UK or they decided in the later models that it was not needed and saved a few cents? Made fitting the kit easier anyway. I just had to make up a small plate to keep the black clip thing from moving out of place but that was simple. I used the spare stud that would have been used to secure the cover if I had one. Thanks for making the video.
Great video. Finishing my tailgate this morning when the water shield arrives from Powerfuluk. The only thing I did differently was to use a length of 2x1" to remove the cable from the metal box.
I strongly recommend replacing the actuator BEFORE it breaks. It is a real pain to open the gate once it does break. And definitely rig a manual release while you are in there.
Here is one for you: Followed the method to get the rear hatch opened, but after troubleshooting found that my problem was a corroded connector and poor ground connection in relation to the switch on the upper tailgate. Once I cleaned those contacts all work well
Hello Simon, you are a hero! Thank you so much for the video tutorial. It was very helpful and everything worked exactly the same. Best regards from Austria, Michael
Thank you very much for this video, you saved me some time and almost certainly save me some money. I had the whole job done in less than an hour, thanks to your video. Keep up the good work🙂👍
I wish I had taken a video. Actually as you said in the video. Part £29 if I had gone to the local garage costs and labour more like £350. Happy days 👍
Great videos - thank you. Question - I have replaced the tailgate switch and it now seems to open once then stop. If I reset it then opens once then stops again. Should I now be looking at the actuator alone or the actuator along with the lock catch? Thank you
Excellent video. Thanks Simon and Tyler. Followed your instruction and replaced mine this morning. Interesting that when I removed the old part it did not have te black plastic cover. I wonder if that was done to make the removal easier when the tailgate is locked and has to be "broken" into.
Great video but in many circumstances the actuator fails when the tail gate is closed so you can’t open it to do the job you demonstrated. Might be useful to show how you deal with it in these circumstances.
Having changed so many actuators on your various Discoveries, what have you done with the ones that actually hadn’t failed. Maybe someone could do with one. Asking for a friend……..who hates waste?
i was hoping for a bit of help please. so I've got a problem with my upper boot and the rubber button, the button works I've tested it on a separate quickly made up circuit. but when its on the car nothing happens no noise, no release, nothing. but if i hold the lock and unlock button on the dash the upper boot pops of the lock? but not fully opens, like if you shut the upper boot door but not hard enough it fully shuts.. any help will be mostly appreciated thank you
Curious if anyone else has gone to replace the actuator and found the black cover was missing? My gate was stuck closed and when I got my hand in there I was able to reach right around the back and pull the cable since the cover was gone. It was a tremendous help so installed the new actuator without the cover. I guess the only downside is some dust could affect the actuator in the long run?
@@L663 strut and the air spring! Seen your video on the air reservoir which was great but am deciding whether to change my full struts due to a hard ride or just put up with the low speed pot hole banging.
Great video Simon, where did you get your splash guard EOT500013 from please? . I have found it some places but they charge a lot for p&p + import tax. Can you help please?
You can get these from any Land Rover dealer. We will add them to the website but your local dealer may be cheaper as we need to include postage and packing fees into our price. You could just use Duck tape ?
Hi Simon, another great video. If I ever manage to great a Disco 3 I’ll not be scared of any jobs 😀 Also no link to the manual release video, is your beanie hat offer still valid? 😁
All the bloody actuators in the D3 are rubbish. So far ive had to replace 2 door lock actuators and my tail gate actuator works once out of every presses. Not sure why they are so rubbish.

Thanks a lot for your video guys, just replaced my actuator. Your step by step guide made it easy .

Excellent - happy motoring !
Great video - and, yes, if it was me, I would definitely replace the big rubber seal. But I think I would also fit the manual release as well.
Thanks guys! Would never try to do this myself if it wasn’t for this video. Great explaining! Saved me a few hundred euro’s 👏
You guys are brilliant, just about to replace my 2016 D4 actuator so a great help thank you. I love the humour too!
Thanks !

Did your tailgate actuator fail closed ? or did you catch it in time ?
Simon.
Closed. Your video was brilliant.
Thanks heaps gents from Canberra, Australia - worked a treat for me once I figured out the likely problem.
I really appreciate it buddy. This resolved the issue, and my wife is very happy.
Thank you for making this...really easy to follow and it went without a hitch. I even managed to reuse the water splash cover. Excellent video!
Hi James - you are welcome !
Fantastic video, I will use it when my new actuator arrives. Would love my 2010 Discovery to see me through to 2030 and beyond 😅

Simon How about doing a video with a disco 3 on fitting auto head lights onto a base model, all it needs is the switch a sensor and a CCF file update

Do you have the part number for the foam shield water splash please

Can you do a long term review of the disco 3/4 how they have been mechanically wise what to look for
The LR Time channel has lots on this topic.

can you make a video on how to replace the power steering pump
oh; thats a really tought one, really hard to reach to bolt on the backside of the pump :(
Great video, thank you. Has anyone tried using the URO actuator? It's half the price of the LR OEM.
You can use the Ford Fiesta one .. its £10 on ebay

No worries

Yes i think I got a bit confused here - would have been easier just to use the switch on the door...

Hi 👋

The D3 is getting old now - but I bet they would not fail as often on a Honda !
