Enjoyed your interview with Brian. My question whether there is anyone out in the EV space w the at least the software, possibly hardware expertise to aid people like Brian for long term ownership? Seems like there could be an industry on to itself. Just asking. Keep up the content.
There are still people trying to reverse engineer personal computers from the 1980s. Its really really difficult and time consuming and PCs have millions of units sold and developers can get used ones pretty easy.
There certainly will be shops to support owners moving forward. The questions are to what level beyond mechanical? They Fisker Ocean was built in Austria, so the supply chain for parts is likely not readily available in the US. Also, so much of what's needed is software support and we're dealing with proprietary software code. So some will have limited support if in proximity to a specialized shop, but most will be on their own to a large extent.
and to think if Apple just waited and not waste $10 billion on EV research then cancel the project. They could have just bought Fisker for pennies on the dollar. They could pick up all the assets for less than $1 billion and since they are a software company, they could have just redo the software from the ground up and have their own nice EV.
Imagine how lenders feel for those who financed a Fisker. They didn't understand the risk of the collateral being worth almost nothing before the loan was paid back. They might think twice about lending on new brands in the future.
Thanks Question: Since you have a Tesla EV and a Fisker Ocean like me. When you have your Tesla in your garage and charging or not does it get very Warm inside your Tesla compared to the Fisker Ocean. My Fisker seems to be very warm for some reason after charging overnight. Also, my Mirror fan is now coming on even though I have Software version 2.0. Also, does this warm inside true of all EV's like the RIVIAN, etc...
I was considering buying a Rivian. This is one of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger. There's no guarantee that these startup EV companies will remain viable. That's not a good place to be in if the company goes bankrupt. Too much risk....
I feel Brian’s pain. I was part of the MetaCycle EV motorcycle scam/failure not long ago. I was one of the very few to receive my motorcycle but so many people were left without anything to show for their deposit and sometimes full payment. I don’t think Out of Spec ever did any coverage of the Metacycle. I think the ship sailed but if ya’ll ever want to revisit it, feel free to message me.
If I were buying a new EV, I’d wait a year or two for them to sort out the bugs first… same thing for buying any new car really. Even Toyota is having issues with their latest models.
25:58 I can't watch the whole thing, this is so sad to me. Just a brilliant car designer, like DeLorean. I was blessed this morning to witness another Karma. This one was white, instead of the brownish I have seen in the past. This is how Fisker needs to be remembered. He should have designed a Hypercar like Rimac.
Actually, he did. If you go back to about the time he created this second company, he was showing his prototype with scissor doors, 700-mile range, and you can charge 500 miles in 5 minutes. He even showed his new battery on air on CNBC.
I’m sorry to hear this I have a Chevy Volt which is great. Fisker was way too quiet about the specs of the car and the media didn’t have access to review these cars, I thought it was a scam, so I decided not to get one.
It's interesting how American customers are time-weak and accept unfinished products. If the product does not have the ordered specifications upon delivery, do not take it over or sue the company if it does not accept a refund. Until you start fighting these scammers, nothing will change.
I did a lot of research / homework before deciding to buy the Ocean. It was always a calculated risk much like buying a Tesla & TSLA stock in 2012. The latter paid off much greater than our loss on the former...
@@EV_OG True. Not meaning to point out just Fisker. It's a general truth. But it doesn't take long to find out Mr Fisker has no business running and start up, let alone a car company start up of which littlerly only one company succeeded in decades of trying and that only by a thin margin. Fisker, a designer by trade, had absolutely 0% chance of success. And that should have been obvious to someone who took a day to look into it.
I hope Lucid doesn't end up bust too!! It's a "penny stock" now, trading low, yet everybody knows the rich Saudis are funding it a lot, and they want Lucid to be a part of their auto industry there with Hyundai, BMW, Ceer, and Foxconn funded very well, thank you. ... One more thing about Lucid: On the engineering side, WOW, it seems excellent, and Reviewers like Car and Driver for example, love it. Watching Munro tear it down and talk about it, it does seem like they could use a better battery design, although they can acquire a new battery & subsystems to rectify that at any time. Their chassis, overall design, and especially the mechanical transmission are all awesome. .... Man, if I was one of the big car makers, I'd hope Lucid goes under so I can buy up all their Designs and use them on, for example, a Ford EV.
There are two important differences between Lucid and Fisker. Lucid owns their technology and its first rate. Fisker owns nothing, it all comes from Magna. All Fisker has is some styling and unlike the first go around with the Karma, which is still a striking vehicle even 12 years later, the Ocean is just another SUV and all SUVs look alike. The other big difference is that Lucid is backed by the Saudis who have very deep pockets. They are getting a second chance with the Gravity. If the Gravity doesn't sell then Peter Rawlinson will have something to worry about because the Saudis have a history of chopping people who upset them into very small pieces.
@@joshuarosen465 I know a lot of people love Vertical Integration (Lucid, Tesla, etc.) yet I don't see how just hiring Magna is all that bad, since Magna has a lot of experience. Lucid has a great performing product, which is why they should succeed. The Saudi's really want to grow their home auto industry with Hyundai, some BMW, Ceer, Lucid, etc., and they can back it almost as a fun 'hobby' for the rich cats.
Fool me once, shame on me.... fool me twice, wont get fooled again! At first I was honestly shocked people bought into this company. Then I was shocked that it was still going. The downfall... not so shocking.
Ive been looking at reviews since the ocean was announced, and with evs being less mechanically complicated, more people can upload reviews, but no one talks about anything that matters. Yes i see the interior, yes i see the windows, the screen that flips from landscape to portrait. But what no one talks about is how the battery holds up, how is the suspension. If something goes wrong, what can i use to repair it with? Im thinking of jumping in on an ocean if i can get one for sub 15k, maybe its just a waiting game and just convincing a dealer to eat the loss and let it go. What are the chances fisker bricks all vehicles if they go completely under? Why cant a fisker be turned into a dumb battery car, i charge it and it goes. I dont want over the air updates for the stupid screen software.
All these EV startups failing will make it very hard for the ones that follow to get investors. On the other hand, too much money is why these companies fail. They don't have to delivery products to get paid. The executive teams rake in the cash even if they go bankrupt. They were hoping for the big win to become Billionaires, but will just settle for failure and become millionaires instead. So sad for them. NOT
Good reason not to but an EV, or any car, from a company that is not profitable, or has no clear path to profitability, no matter how good the car. I'm looking at you Lucid.
I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my EV, however you might call it a 2/3 EV 1/3 hybrid. I researched for about 3 months and back 3 years ago pure EV ranges were in the mid 200 miles per charge or less. I got 2020 BMW i3s REX which I thought was horrible looking. Since I drive an extremely cool 1992 BMW 850i which gets very bad gas mileage being a 12 cyl I wanted to eliminate some stopping at gas stations. BUT I did not want to have to stop for electric within 220-230 miles and have the 30+ min wait to charge up. Also WOW did we get lucky. Coming back from California to Phoenix there are only 2 charging opportunities. On New Years day we were on the route and charging spot 1 had a 3 car wait. I pressed the button that clicks on a 2.3 gallon engine that maintains the high voltage state of charge with a generator and continued on. Next charging station even more of a wait. Instead of electric I topped off the gas and kept going. So, I can do approv 170 miles on electric and 80 miles in hybrid mode, plus 80 plus 80 plus 80 if I want to or need to keep getting gas. It's pretty genius. I heard a tumor that a future release of the Cybertruck will have this range extender capability. It's cool to have the financial benefits of 170 of home charging inexpensive electric and the luxury of no range anxiety.

Fisker doesnt manufacturing, distribute, or sell their vehicles. Their software also doesn’t work. What are they good for? A few design drawings? Obviously worthless company.
28:53 the thing with companies being unable to deal with titles is such a late stage capitalism fail. Like mini version of what happened w mortgage titles in 2008. Paperwork showing ownership is a basic foundation of modern civilization , like running water or working sewers. But so many big companies cannot even get this right nowdays.
I like this guy, but damn he makes some bad financial choices with cars. Good thing he has money to blow on massively depreciating assets. Being a fan of EV’s is one thing, but to buy any of them is a total waste of money right now. They should only be leased right now with as quickly as they lose value and as quickly as they are changing the technology. The Fisker was never a good buy, the Volvo is a bad buy, the Aptera is a huge risk and will most likely be vaporware as well. Can an Aptera even go through a drive thru ATM or a toll booth?
Some misunderstanding this is Chapter 11 not Chapter 7 , it allows them to continue to help customers. Yes agreed until the money runs out , but Chapter 7 would have meant an immediate shut of the doors. Sad that many don't understand the process.

Fisker has no chance in the first place. Car manufacturing is capital intensive. They gonna need at least $10B of cash, not $100M, in order to survive mass produce
This felt like beating a dead horse. It should have been a 10 minute obituary of Fisker. When you gamble, sometimes you loose.
Fantastic video. Please dive further into WHY the EV aftermarket has cratered?
Great interview with BrianG......Thanks for sharing!
This poscast made me fall into deep depression. I no longer want to go to the gym. (model Y owner)
Magna: maybe they have some time now to get someone to keep the iPace chassis afloat and update it since Jaguar is going to do their own platform. :)
Is Aptera the next Fisker? Lucid?
I doubt they’ll even make it that far
Great show. Just subscribed to Brian’s.
and to think if Apple just waited and not waste $10 billion on EV research then cancel the project.
Magna is a Canadian company with locations around the world including Europe.
How much did you pay for yours?
@@verynick can't remember exactly. Msrp plus $700 for shipping.
good interview, feels like I want to say "sorry for your loss" as if the Ocean was a human
Some people will get a real bargain on a used Fisker if they are happy to take the risk on third party insurance and can buy with cash.
If I were buying a new EV, I’d wait a year or two for them to sort out the bugs first… same thing for buying any new car really. Even Toyota is having issues with their latest models.
Not surprising :( it's tough out there
25:58 I can't watch the whole thing, this is so sad to me.
Fisker was very loud about it and it was indeed a scam
next is Sinkfast... i believed they will out of business in US
bummer, we needed competition, this is sad
There’s too much competition. That’s why EV manufacturers are failing.
This is a CEO BUSINESS MANAGER ISSUE THAT FAILED period
Not the first time for them either. Their previous business failure is exactly why I stayed away.
I know people love to focus hate on one person. Not at all that simple. If the software wasn’t bad this whole scenario might be very different
Wait to end to see how fisker company will be bought by one of Fissker chairmans . This is a way to refuse almost investors.
It's interesting how American customers are time-weak and accept unfinished products. If the product does not have the ordered specifications upon delivery, do not take it over or sue the company if it does not accept a refund. Until you start fighting these scammers, nothing will change.
What did he sell the fisker for? Did that dealer sell it to someone else?
I am really surprised at how little thinking goes into large priced purchases by most people. That includes purchasing a house, car, investments.
ha ha initially (i read too fast) i read that as house, >>cat
ITS NOT OVER YET
Disappointing news! I'm sure the Ocean will look nice here in California at the Peterson Automotive Museum some day, parked right next to the Tucker.
Freewire also out of business this week.
NOT
go to adam ev it was only fisker group that filed and not fisker inc.
Not true now.
Good reason not to but an EV, or any car, from a company that is not profitable, or has no clear path to profitability, no matter how good the car. I'm looking at you Lucid.
Still waiting for the Alpha Wolf. 😅
Fisker? Just another sign of poor management of a company. People really don't understand how many have failed in the automobile industry.
37:20 - never laughed so hard in my life we have a Volvo PHEV running Android Auto and a Tesla, love the Volvo in many ways but the Android auto software is comeplete rubbish compared to the Tesla - it's like it's 2 or 3 generations behind.
He convinced me. I see a 2023 on sale for 28k which is almost new. I am going to avoid it. Seems like these cars are junk.
From Fisker to Volvo… this guy really enjoys hurting himself.
Fisker doesnt manufacturing, distribute, or sell their vehicles. Their software also doesn’t work. What are they good for? A few design drawings? Obviously worthless company.
Why cant elon buy the fisker ocean, perfect it and call it the tesla ocean. Peeps love this car
We knew Fisker was Bankrupt 2 years ago… Buying one was supremely dumb.
Hey sparky, another Tesla fanboy ……… the emphasis here is on boy!
@@tonys9413 I'm guessing your a Fisker fanboy

@@tonys9413so why that reaction then? Lots of people tried to raise alarms about Fisker but got shot down by Fisker fans.
He was an obvious liar.
Heinrich's wife treated the fucking company like a god damn atm!
I just heard on the Autoline After Hours podcast that Fisker didn't cash checks for months.
BrianG you’ll make a great cult member Libacrite
I must have missed it, what value did he get on the trade?
Poor him, poor Fisker, it is actually a good car. Just the market too difficult now for it to survive
He's a fraud whose lies caught up with him again
Watched a bunch of Fisker videos on the Ocean and lots of them liked it…except for the 10% flawed which are really flawed including the software support
@@verynick yes, and with no dealer or manufacturer support and yet to be uncovered quality issues, owners may have ongoing headaches and virtually no chance to unload the vehicle
@@jamespaul2587yikes. Hope they leased theirs!
All this clairvoyance and wisdom comes after Powell disciplines yhe financial markets with 6% interest rates. Its funny how all this stuff comes crashing down and people suddeny become practical and realistic. Most of these EV startups are unsustainable. The legacy automakers know how to run it profitably or use it as a loss leader for their other products. Alot of pain upcoming

@Liughost05 So is Mitsubishi, yet they still sell tens of thousands of cars in the US every year. Mitsubishi is technically bankrupt, but Toyota keep them afloat in order to continue production of the Kei car used as a tax deduction in Japan which Toyota outsourced to the company.
