Naseebo (starting singer) is presenting rough and tough time, which someone already gone through, you can clearly hear and feel the pain in her voice/tone (high pitched) and Abida Sahiba (2nd singer) presenting, calm and acceptance (aspects of life) harsh realities but at the end, after suffering they decided to compromise and saying "Tu Jhoom", means "live your life" 🙏 (Tu means you and Jhoom is dance form, but here it means ignore everything) rest of the ppl on stage performing as "World". For me, I try to first get into how the song feels and if I’m connecting to it or no. Then come the lyrics, or the instruments, and they become discoveries, for lack of a better word, for future listening. This way a song can stay fresh and not get stale over multiple hearings. For me.
These subcontinent artist spend learning their art & craft from very easy in life. It becomes a life-style of living, earning & perfection even when they considered Masters or Teachers. The singing takes on another form of reverence during performance & gratitude. The performance than takes on another form also like a Spiritual fulfilment. People get lost in their performance & also the audience. A totally unique experience that has to be felt & experienced. My answer is a tiny drop of water in the massive ocean of answers in trying to understanding this complex nature of subcontinent music.
