It's no secret that today's society is more polarized than ever, especially in the US. We seem to be unable to discuss nuances and are constantly getting caught up in arguments about military conflicts, abortion, the Second Amendment, and just about everything else. But why is that? And what could we do about it? I had the pleasure of discussing this with a long-time friend of the podcast, Eric Weinstein. Enjoy!

Making decisions and planning for the future based on emotions is how you go extinct.
Information isn't always knowledge, I (and the species) have developed incorrect knowledge on bad/mis-observed information. We deal with this differently (ex. Physics like discovering they are wrong on something, politicians don't/won't. Everyone one else somewhere in-between.
I too like to proclaim I am a wise man... but not wise enough.

If you listen to the people who have a vested interest in an uneducated public, you'd think so. No, it's the ideas of the theists and the egomaniacs and the rich and powerful and the fragile and corrupt that have a clock ticking down the minutes until they're gone. Eric is much like Trump: trying to grab a time that isn't anymore and wasn't a solid thing even then. Instead, we need to argue for more critical thinking and LESS EGO IN EVERYTHING: A sober, responsible America based on the Golden Rule (the one Harry Truman stole from us).

The main thing on campuses right now is students protesting a fuckin genocide. Of course to the Right, the Israeli gov't is beyond reproach and can never be criticized in any manner.
They are extremely worried as in the past there was always a 100% bipartisan & ironclad defense of Israel no matter what it did. Then social media happened, phone cameras became ubiqutious, etc and the world began to see an Apartheid state hell bent on genocide commit war crimes that have been *fully documented* by virtually every independant human rights org on the planet. As a result, that ironclad defense no longer exists. Weinstein yearns for the past when Israeli propaganda was taken as gospel and any criticism of the Israeli gov't, no matter how explicit one was in saying the criticism was of the gov't & military and not of the people... was met with instantly being labeled as anti-semite. What do the Twistors of Roger Penrose and the Hopf Fibrations of Eric Weinstein and the "Belt Trick" of Paul Dirac have in common?
In Spinors it takes two complete turns to get down the "rabbit hole" (Alpha Funnel 3D--->4D) to produce one twist cycle (1 Quantum unit).
Can both Matter and Energy be described as "Quanta" of Spatial Curvature? (A string is revealed to be a twisted cord when viewed up close.) Mass= 1/Length, with each twist cycle of the 4D Hypertube proportional to Planck’s Constant.
In this model Alpha equals the compactification ratio within the twistor cone, which is approximately 1/137.
1= Hypertubule diameter at 4D interface
137= Cone’s larger end diameter at 3D interface where the photons are absorbed or emitted.
The 4D twisted Hypertubule gets longer or shorter as twisting or untwisting occurs. (720 degrees per twist cycle.)
If quarks have not been isolated and gluons have not been isolated, how do we know they are not parts of the same thing? The tentacles of an octopus and the body of an octopus are parts of the same creature.
Is there an alternative interpretation of "Asymptotic Freedom"? What if Quarks are actually made up of twisted tubes which become physically entangled with two other twisted tubes to produce a proton? Instead of the Strong Force being mediated by the constant exchange of gluons, it would be mediated by the physical entanglement of these twisted tubes. When only two twisted tubules are entangled, a meson is produced which is unstable and rapidly unwinds (decays) into something else. A proton would be analogous to three twisted rubber bands becoming entangled and the "Quarks" would be the places where the tubes are tangled together. The behavior would be the same as rubber balls (representing the Quarks) connected with twisted rubber bands being separated from each other or placed closer together producing the exact same phenomenon as "Asymptotic Freedom" in protons and neutrons. The force would become greater as the balls are separated, but the force would become less if the balls were placed closer together. Therefore, the gluon is a synthetic particle (zero mass, zero charge) invented to explain the Strong Force. The "Color Force" is a consequence of the XYZ orientation entanglement of the twisted tubules. The two twisted tubule entanglement of Mesons is not stable and unwinds. It takes the entanglement of three twisted tubules to produce the stable proton....
Without abandoning the Standard Model and the theory of relativity, science will not be able to develop.

Physics has lost its way because it discovered strongly suggested answers (to a bunch of questions) that the mainstream didn't like - due to its dogmatic faith in philosophical physicalism - and so has recoiled from, plunging instead into calls for ever bigger and ever more expensive particle colliders in a search for more and more physical 'particles' that it assumes will explain everything. The answers that the the mainstream didn't like suggest that the Unified Field Theory that folks are looking for actually relates to *a field of consciousness*.
What is truly astounding is that mainstream science dismisses as 'woo woo' what every deep explorer into consciousness has been saying in every period of human history across all cultures stretching back thousands of years, namely that *consciousness itself is the Unifying Field* out of which all manifestations - physical and non-physical - arise. Mainstream science has thus - without evidence - dismissed the testimony of countless people across the ages, all of whom it must presumably consider to be either frauds or else mentally ill in some way. And it has done so simply because it has fixated on philosophical physicalism and can't abide anything that doesn't fit with this.
Does science know how consciousness arises? No - it merely has a large number of competing hypotheses and theories. Does science know what consciousness is? The answer is no. Does science even know what life itself is? Again, the answer is no - it's a zillion billion miles away from being able to chemically create a even a single living cell, despite many decades of intensive research.
One day a new philosophy of science will arise, one that leads to new ways to explore the 'inner' and 'subjective' as keenly as it now explores the 'outer' and 'objective'.
Eric does indeed try to be objective when commenting on social matters. But, because of his commitment to so-called “progressive” politics he just can’t “pull it off.” Remember Eric said: “there is not a republican bone in my body.” Next guest please 🤷♂️

The average person can't have nuanced conversations that are scientifically literate and historically informed because of the abysmal education situation. From quality to cost. Think about it: how IN THE WORLD do you expect maturity, nuance and critical reasoning when these are taught, practised skills that you only get to play around with in a school setting? That's an insane expectation. And that's the problem, it's the complete failure of the school system.
The school system was set up for one reason. That was to create a working class to buy homes that profit only a fiat BANKSTER System. You get a debt-loan and the bank magically creates a credit state of prison for all man.
Modern Society is doomed the conflicts will only grow and if true hard times happen things will get very tribal very quick ... chaos is growing and we are at any time about 3weeks from rolling things back to the middle ages .. in my life time ... the population of the world has doubled, i have seen countries fall, pandemics , and i am sure AGI by 2025

Mr Weinstein, I tend to agree with your hypothesis. The ring road concept has some merit to it. Perhaps is we think of this reality as sitting between other versions just like a playing card sits somewhere inside a stack of other playing cards, we may see the shortcut to Galactic or Universe wide travel is simply to step outside this defined version and step back into it at another point by traversing a medium that contains a different "concept" of spacetime.

While I agree with Eric about needing to spread our species out and how each new planet inhabited should be used by like-minded people to experiment with their own views on human organization, couldn't we just for now create countries right here on this planet using the same rules? While I don't consider myself by any means a bobblehead, there are clearly people who I agree with far more than others. Can't we take those people who truly understand the tenets of The Enlightenment and classical liberalism and form a new country? Shouldn't we be striving for that right now? From what I've heard from Eric, I would be proud to share a world with him and other like-minded people. If you want to live in a nation unified, with a sense of every man your brother, that is the prescription.

I feel like Brian would’ve been a prop comic in another life.
Just imagine how exciting it would have been to live in the time when the biggest questions in science were being answered, how much more real it would have felt to live at those times. The A.I thing is a big scary though, I don't like that it's being used by governments to clamp down on people to force a progression of state motives. That's likely going to evolve and get worse, especially for people that don't have the power to defend themselves.
What about comparing "COMMON SENSE" with "QUANTUM PHYSICS".
Basically you're saying that it's not realistic to define this existence into fixed patterns; like the covid example you made.

Basically we're saying: "we can't measure consciousness, nor touch it, see it, calculate it, SO WE DISCARD IT".

So, it is true, to say that scientific method is not complete (nothing new I know), because it doesn't include experience.
Is experience part of this reality? Yes, much.
Is experience included in science? No.
And... You want a theory of everything! It's a bit presumptious, no?

You'll just understand the physical world then.

Thanks to it, humans can change their chemical state and face otherwise impossible feats.
Shall we give a look into it even though it doesn't use scientific method?
I'm just saying that quantum physics and yoga say the same things, just from different approaches.
Shall we investigate why they're so similar?
And why these cultures developed these ideas way before us?
And why they actually work even though they're not using the scientific method?

It's not science that is the problem, it really is the global state of conclusion (it's us and are inability to do better science, we tend to come to conclusions that bottleneck progress, and a system that doesn't want to update). I wouldn't really say it's people, but rather the community dogmas, and what the system demands.

Been watching Eric for years. He tends to ramble while taking you on a strange word-salad journey. A journey down a long dark winding road leading to a gotcha catch phrase. Ultimately never to give a conclusive answer to a question of thought. Similar to a TV series leaving you counting on next’s episode. Thought provoking, possibly. Entertaining, yes.
