Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

This song is iconic for so many reasons- but are we not even going to talk about how cute that dog is?!!
Please NEVER be ashamed or embarrassed to wear your heart on your sleeve. That's what a real man does!
SAY IT Sister!
@@johnhricko8212 lol
Damn right. XxX
Yes! As much as the world loves a strong man, as a female, sometimes we just want to see that you feel it as deeply as we do.
I'm a 64 yr old hippy type who's been listening to prog rock since I was 10. Your emotional response to the music is so similar to my own. Sometimes the music just fills me up to the point where I can't even speak without bursting into tears. I've not met many people like that. It's a wonderful feeling. Don't lose it man - relish it. You have so much great music to look forward to hearing for the first time, I'm quite envious. So much I could recommend. Have fun.
I'm the same....and try and hide it because I feel like a freak when I start crying listening to music. Doing it right now.
@@chantalmassicotte3934
Don't hide it, it's heartfelt & an honest, soulful reaction...I often get that response with music. ❤
"They say that there's a secret chord that David played to please the Lord, but you don't really care for music, do ya?"
Sometimes it's just the right lyric with the right chord change to grab you by the heart strings!
And sometimes it's listening to a song for the 2,000 time and noticing a flute or a chime you never noticed before...
I’m the same also. Some of my favorite music gets me about everytime.
Couldn’t be a singer because I’d get emotional while trying to perform, plus I can’t sing well lol
Same here! I am not a bad singer, but I cannot enjoy singing this good music because my voice often faints with emotion!!
The line I get so tired working so hard for our survival, gets me every time.
Tears of appreciation. Tears help cleanse the soul.
The So album will never age!
you need to react to the Secret world live version
Absolutely they do. That performance is on another level. He'll bawl his eyes out! LOL!!
That is truly the only way to watch this video.
I agree, that is a fantastic performance and version of this song.
Yes yes yes Please re-do this one using the Secret World Live version!!
The woman vocalist in that hits a sound that's so pure it's like hearing singing water. She's mind blowing.
Solisbury Hill live on Letterman. Unbearably beautiful.
Solisbury Hill any performance will be truly awesome
I'm a child of the 60s so when this song came out , I was a teenager . This is in my opinion , one of the best songs ever written and performed by humans . That is also the main song in the movie " Say anything " .
Same for me as well as Solsbury Hill, blood of eden, Biko (both the studio recording and the Plays Live ~ engineered live version), red rain, humdrum and [don't give up] - referencing the studio recording with Kate Bush on that last suggestion.
"Red Rain" is another nice one by him.
Cry away. My wife and I still do after 47 years. Let the love flow and let the music take you to that special place with that special someone.
Thank you for sharing! Music is so beautiful... (such an understatement, I know! We appreciate you sharing this moment with us. Sending peace, Lex. :)
Peter Gabriel....what a voice 👍🏻
Peter Gabriel has produced some exceptional solo material, a lot if which has deep emotional meaning to the listener. So never hold back on what a track can do to your soul. Real men do cry....
Mercy street is one of my favorites by Mr Gabriel
Yeah that is the song that gets to me since my Dad has passed.
Each voice has a signature. Some are unmistakable
This song was prominently featured in an iconic 80's movie with John Cusack called "Say Anything". He held a boombox over his head while standing underneath a girl's bedroom window to win her over.
Do a reaction to his cult hit "Shock The Monkey". It's the intro to his new wave music career into the 80's.
Forget John Cusack, I still daydream about Ione Skye every time I hear this song. Daydream being the polite way to put it.
Say Anything is one of my favorite 80s movies. The boom box scene with this song is perfection
This song ALWAYS makes me emotional. Peter's voice is so emotive. And with the keyboards it's just over the top.
Amazing how dogs pick up on humans being upset and want to provide comfort! 😁
I go emotional as soon as the song starts. I especially like the live version from 1993. Amazing closer to a concert. So much positive energy.
I can imagine how amazing that would be! Peter is full of positivity. Thanks for watching our videos! :) -Lex
I was 18 when the So album came out in 1986, I am still listening to it today, it’s a masterpiece that is not aging...
God I just want to be a kid growing up in the 80’s again. It’s was almost like magic. I can only speak of course for those of us in the town of Dana Point, California and south Orange County, but I know many people would go back to the 80’s if they could. It was just a great time. You can truly get a feel for those times in a lot of the movies and especially music of that era. 🤙🏻
This is a tough song at anytime. While in love it brings the feelings out in a very special way, but trust mem when you're not in love it is still as moving because of the memories it evokes. Gabriel is on another level.
The live performance of this song in the Secret World concert video gives me the same emotional reaction, esp when Paula Cole does her thing. You def gotta check it out. And of course, Don’t Give Up with Kate Bush.
SERIOUSLY.....ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMANCES
Hi guys. As others have said, the live concert version from the Secret World tour CD/DVD is now a classic. In my opinion its one the best rock/world music DVDs ever. And the female vocalist Paula Cole is a treasure on the entire DVD. Also on the live DVD of the concert is a new version of Gabriel's hit "Don't Give Up" which also features Paula Cole... it is even better than the original version Gabriel did with Kate Bush. You have to view the DVD of the live concert with the sound really cranked up. It is easily one of the best live performances I have ever seen. I think you will be transfixed.
Peter Gabriel was a pioneer of using so-called world music. He founded Reading's world famous WOMAD (World of music and dance) Festival. This track features the first time that most people had heard Youssou Ndour.
It's cool. This song is absolutely beautiful.
Hi Nick and Lex! I just discovered your videos 3 days ago...been scrolling through, watching a variety of selections and getting so much joy out of them. I knew I had to leave you a comment---especially when I saw this one. This is a favorite of mine, as much for the lyrics as the music---so I do hope you have read the lyrics by now---but I love that it moved you to tears even so. Actually, the first video of yours I watched was the Joni Mitchell...Case of You...because I wanted to see "the husband moved to tears"! : D. I am exactly the same---very easily moved to tears by music, art...beauty of all kinds....so it is lovely to find a kindred spirit. You two are both so lovely and I appreciate your enthusiasm and the joy you get from discovering all of this great old stuff. There's a lot on here I never listened to so I look forward to discovering it with you. One more thing---I want to thank you for reminding me about using headphones and the huge difference it makes! I'd completely forgotten. Headphones were a big thing in the 70's when I was a teenager....partly to hide what we were listening to from our parents! Once I moved away from home and I could crank it, I got out of the habit of using them....but I forgot what a transcendent and completely different experience you have when using them. You gave that back to me and I am so grateful!! Thank you for sharing your lovely selves with us. I'll be out here with my headphones on. : ) Oh----and I'll recommend something...The Moody Blues: The Story in Your Eyes.
Hi there!! Thank you so much for your kind comment and support! It’s wonderful to hear that you’re enjoying the channel so much. We’re having so much fun and love sharing with all of you!
I’m super excited about the headphone re-discovery because it happened to me as well! It had been years since I listened to music with headphones and since we started this it’s come back!
Thanks again. It’s great to have you! 🥰🥰 - Lex
That 'tribal sound' was a Phil Collins influence; Peter took it, went back to the world to get the beat and bring it into our consciousness, then took it all to new heights. Genius.
(seeing his concert video makes it even better) Yes, Levin on bass.
This song has the same effect on me. It probably took 20 or 25 hears before I didn’t cry. It is classic eighties world music, unique to Peter Gabriel. The song is about how he was lost until he found his true love and lost when she is not around.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your informative and genuine reactions. I could learn so much from you and you could learn a few things from this baby-boomer.
Yes indeed. A beautiful haunting song. His love at that time was the actress Rosanna Arquette - who has stunningly beautiful eyes. She must have been quite the muse; she was also the inspiration for the track Rosanna by Toto.
@@Fabio_Barone_Au Thank you. I always like to learn about the inspiration for songs.
@@willasacco9898 You're very welcome. :-)
You two are so adorable.
I am so pleased that you are as emotional aa i am. The lyrics are so real to me and the feeling is palpable...thanks for keeping it real.
This song is Perfection. I prefer the extended version where Peter includes a bit of spoken word part at the end that will blow you away. Listen to His live version when you have a chance.
This is my all time favorite song. It reminds me of a better time in my life.
Thank you for sharing. I love how songs can evoke memories so vividly. We appreciate you stopping by. :) - Lex
You really should react to his performance of this song on his "Secret World Live" tour, its one of my all time favorite concert DVD's. Paula Cole sings backup and her voice is phenomenal as well.
I cry every time I hear this song. The lyrics are so important in this song, You have to listen with lyrics.
My all time favorite song and I love how emotional you guys get. That’s what I feel every time I hear it.
Peter Gabriel is very into worldmusic. He has a studio in England where he invites musicians from all over the world to record their music. He also organizes a festival for a month every year with worldmusic in England. And the label where he records everything is called "Real World"- label ...
“Lot’s of crying on this channel’..now if that isn’t an enticement I don’t know what is...to be honest, I get just as emotional when I hear music like this...there are a couple of other tracks from this album that hit me equally powerfully...Don’t give up and Mercy Street....incredibly emotive, at least to me...give them a listen....another contemporaneous album, Graceland, by Paul Simon, had a real world music feel to it...
If they are going to react to Don't Give Up, I would suggest doing the live version from the Secret World tour with Paula Cole. While I really like Kate Bush, Paula's voice is amazing in this performance.
If you haven't already, watch the live version. It is one of the all-time great performances.
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush song "don't give up". Two amazing singers in one song.....
Peter is a genius and this and the song with kate bush are some of my favourites, two of the most amazing vocalists.
Many of Peter Gabriel’s songs have heavy but subtle religious overtones. He’s a wonderful human being as well as a musician.
For some people smells are the primary memory trigger. For me it's music, so I can understand getting emotional by it. I'm also a guy and yeah, we also cry, and it's getting better now that we can do it in the open and have no mandates to hide it like in the past.
Gorgeous song - his voice is otherworldly
You guys are great to watch. I do hope though you’ve gone back and enjoyed this song in headphones. You’re right - there’s nothing like being immersed in it and the chills come every time. The song deserves headphones. And you deserve the song in headphones. Go enjoy!
Being a bass player myself, I really appreciate Tony Levin's work. He often uses a stick bass.
Congrats on your first foray into reactions!! Been really enjoying all your reactions, especially prog bands like Yes, RUSH, APP, etc. Keep up the great work!!
You should react to the song "Don't Give Up" from this same album. One of the greatest duets ever, with the incredible Kate Bush
I love Kate Bush, too.Wuthering Heights or if you really want to cry,This Woman’s Work
great artist and a classic album one of the 80s best
Nice reaction - Peter Gabriel is a musical genius.
One of the greatest 80s albums
Just a little off topic, but I just listened to "The Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin, and if you want to have an incredible emotional reaction to a song, this will knock you over with a feather, then blast you out into somewhere into outer space ... then back again ... several times ! You will be emotionally exhausted, but still exhilarated at the same time
One of the most beautiful songs ever IMO. I heard this for the first time while at a concert waiting for the band to come onstage and ran out the next day and bought the CD. That was over 30 years ago and I still have it. The whole album is a gem. Check out Mercy Street. Now that song makes me cry everytime because of the lyrics talking about finding Mercy in your daddy's arms and having lost my father
Whole album is wonderfully crafted. Red Rain. Don’t Give Up. Mercy Street. Don’t Give Up saved me...has Kate Bush. Tears for sure. Mercy Street is a tribute to the poet Anne Sexton. It’s a wonderful tribute - using a lot of Anne’s symbolisms.
Yes, it's definitely the one and only Tony Levin on bass and as far as I can recall, he's been in PG's band from day 1 since 1976 🤘
OMG, here you go again - happening to check out another one of my favorites!! 🤩Thank you!!
Seeing the live version you'll never forget and download the complete show.!!
Wow !! The music was so good back then !!! Love this song !
So glad you posted this!😍
Reminds me of attending a Human Rights Watch concert in the summer of '87 with Gabriel, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N'Dour and Bruce Springsteen (quite a line-up huh?) I'm also a Gabriel-fan since before he went solo...
glad you posted this. LOVE this song... and also appeared in one of my most fav classic movies. I cry too when I hear this
Thanks Erin! Are you talking about Say anything!? :)
@@NicknLex Yes! Love that movie!
Great song, and a wonderful, touching reaction from you both. This song created a magical moment in the film, "Say Anything". See it if you haven't yet. Years later, Gabriel recorded this live in Italy (Secret World tour) with a huge, all star band, including Papa Wemba from Gambia. It is a completely over the top concert experience... As good as live can get. It's on UA-cam.
I was so lucky to be able to see Peter on the Back to Front tour in 2013 when amongst my other things he played the whole of the SO album. In the band were guys who played on the album, Tony Levin, on bass Manu Katche on drums and David Rhodes on guitar. As usual with Peter's shows it was amazing and the experience of a lifetime. It's so interesting that you mention world music as Peter was a major influence in kicking off the world music movement founding the W.O.M.A.D. music festival featuring musicians from all over the world. The man is just so humble yet amazing. Loving the channel.
We have a dog that looks similar to yours, and when I get emotional, usually mad, she comes over like she's trying to comfort me and calm me down. BTW, Peter Gabriel Secret World live will have you trembling in your seats. Don't forget the box of tissues.
This song holds a lot of meaning, and I can understand the tears. It came out while planning a wedding, and we used it as the first song of our official dance. Roughly a year later, I saw her for the last time, as we had already separated, then went to an Amnesty International concert at RFK, down the street from where she was then living. I felt he was singing the song to me.
I believe the lead drummer is Manure Katche on this song. He played on a lot of Peter Gabriel's songs and plays that talking drum you are hearing.
Nick...I always get emotional at the same part!!!! Peters voice is so soulful and strong. Also love Mercy Street, Red Rain and Hear That Voice Again. Love your dog!
This is a soulful song! ❤️🥰😘💙
I'm so glad you decided to keep going with your channel. I enjoyed this original upload 2 years in.
Aww thanks so much!! 💕 ✨
Great song reminds me of my wife she loved this song.
This is also the perfect song to blare on a boombox, held over your head, aimed at a girl's bedroom window above you.
Song to the love of the Universe. The eyes of God.
More tearjerkers for Nick: Sade's "Pearls,' Al Jarreau's "Alonzo," Stevie Wonder's "Summer Soft," and Paul McCartney's "Waterfalls"
Certainly The most achieved Album of Peter Gabriel ( SO ) : every song is great and this one very particular, terrific in live.. ( Secret World Live ). and your comments are always interesting and spontaneous .😃
Dude. I am SO you. Music hits me exactly the same way.
When good music hits you …
Yes. Perfectly said.
Please look up the lyrics. This is one of my Top 5 favorite songs of all time.
So many excellent versions are out there! Of course, it has gotta be LIVE. Whether you have Manu, Youssou or Paula and Papa Wemba or Sevara you can't lose. Geez, I'm so old that I remember when Levin had long hair.
I love what you said about the vibe of 'driving through a city at night'. I relate, as you can see from my account name ;)
That, and getting emotional over music. I think every true lover of music has had the experience of the goosebumps/tingles and the watering of eyes over a particularly gorgeous chord or just a perfectly structured passage.
You'll probably never see this comment, as it's from a reaction you posted so long ago, but . . .you really need to watch/listen to the "Secret World Live" version of this song. It's just jaw-droppingly outstanding. Poor Nick will be in a puddle of tears and laughter.
Thanks for your suggestion! It’s on our radar :) -Lex
You guys, along with your room here, look a little different now : )
Thanks for sending me back here. Fun to see : )
You two should watch the live version of this performance.
You need to see this preformed live!!! Epic!!
Peter Gabriel is fantastic singer. He has been for a long time. 🤟
Nick ! I feel the music, you’re not alone !
This was the very last song from Woodstock 94' . I had been on site for a Month building the stages. I spent almost the whole weekend 105 ft in the air, holding the roof system together. I had maybe 2 hrs sleep the whole Festival. At about 3am Monday morning Peter Gabriel took the stage, I though I could finally relax! Wrong! The follow spot operator on the mix position had collapsed! So I made my way through the 2 ft deep mud to the mix tower and made that 60 ft climb to the top to run a Strong Super Trooper Spot Light. Most of the time for Rock, you are assigned a performer and you just keep the light on them, but not this time, the Lighting Designer had an elaborate light show with hundreds of cues! After the show we still had 7 days of high steel work to tear down!
So full of music, this song!! Gabriel won a Grammy for this album the year it came out. Going to watch your reaction to Sting next. He’s another genius and one of my favorites who has so many wonderful songs that draw you in. I hope you have the chance to enjoy Paul Simon in his solo career and as Simon and Garfunkel.
nothing better than music that can move you to tears 👍👍👍👍👍
What an absolute evocative voice. In the top 5 for me ever.
There are a good number of live versions from different tours. All of them brilliant with fantastic guest singers. They are a highlight of any PG concert - you need to see them! :)
There are some amazing live versions of this on YT with musicians from all over the world performing with him. ✌
Such a great classic Peter song. Another prior to this album was "Shock the Monkey" great title song.
The power of music and endorphins for the brain! Nice job guys, really enjoying the channel. Rock on 🤘
Thanks so much, Doug! It’s a pleasure to bring these reactions and share with the World! :) - Lex
This song was written about Rosanna Arquette, which ironically, you mentioned Toto, who also wrote Rosanna about her as well.....
Nick & Lex this track In Your Eyes is playing during a pivotal moment in the movie “Say Anything.”
Please watch Say Anything from 1989. This film is very close to my heart.
I hope you like it.
Have a great day.
You two are so damn cute - don't worry, Nick ... You're not the only one who cries to great music. I frequently choke up trying to sing along to great lyrics. Please try listening to "Further Along" by IQ. I listen to it frequently and still get emotional. It's a masterpiece. Also ... "White Russian" by Marillion ... a social - geopolitical statement of great importance ... so emotional. Keep it up, you're so much fun!
You 2 have come a long way. Enjoy your reactions.
Awww thank you for going back to the beginning!! ❤️
7:43-wow!!! Me too!!! And I’ve listened to this song since ‘86.
Peter Gabrielle at live aid was my favorite at the whole concert
Loved they way that cute little dog yours reacts to emotion! unconditional.
He's simply the best! :) - Lex
Watch the secret world live performance of this song it is masterful.
