Have similar box. Drilled 4 holes in bottom for 4x4 wood "runners", put 3" long bolts through inside box holes / wood (counter sunk for nuts) welded 1/8 rod between bolt heads to keep from turning. Filled with beach gravel so if repairs needed can empty to get to inside. Wood runners protect box / floor and make easier to hook up.
At least they put a real nice red paint job on it to match the tractor. Looked like a rookie welders first project 😂 i can't believe thats the steel that you consider scrap. I need to come dig through yur scrap bin😂😂 nice work buddy
I got an eBay version a couple of years ago but was using alternative ballast. They are about 75% of what I paid now; but welds are good enough that I didn’t notice them. Anyway, this week, I put it on my trailer, drove it to the Co-op and had them drop 500# of river rock mostly in the box $25. Came out 2/3 full at ~500#. A little heavy for my BX, so I drained the box down to about half full. The rocks are nice for drainage and easy to manage weight if needed. I cut a slot so the top hook of my quick hitch can just back in. It works on the ground, but I might add some wheels and angle iron to move it with the forks. Being retired, I can over engineer my fabrication and waste a lot of time.
I got a couple harbor freight moving dollys, so I back in my shop and set it on those, detach and I can just barely push it around on my own, I have thought about taking some weight out, but the tractor is rated to pick up like 3000lbs on the 3pt
I hear you, I was surprised it got this heavy, but it keeps weight off the frontend, so Im hoping it make it last longer. This is about half of what my 3pt is rated for.
Bought similar one and filled with 6.5 - 66 lb bags of sand , very heavy, accidentally dropped it while driving and bent on pin arm ( not the pin) , my pin arms look longer than yours at 3” from inside , as you are welder can I simply beat it back straight with big hammer cold or should I heat it first ? Thanks for your advice in advance

That would work also! Nice

Nice mod. I will probably do the same when mine arrives. Don't need anywhere near 1500 pounds on the back of my old JD 420 though.

This is the amount of weight I want on my JD. I like the steel idea.
Might try this with my Yanmar.
The welds aren't bad once you realize they were done by a Barefoot Chinese kid
Very true

Itll move easier if its hot, but its not very heavy metal to begin with so you should be able to move it with a big hammer.
@@JohnVHLife Thanks I’ll give it a try, if it doesn’t seem to want to move, I’ll heat it .
Those look like my welds.
that's why it's so cheap them welds are a joke
They are. But apparently plenty. As heavy as I have it loaded it’s been great!
Not up to your standards? It’s a ballast box. Pay twice or three times for a brand name and stop you bitching.
If youre going to make a weld, there is no reason to make a bad one. haha!
