- Prime Time: We visit a village in Phoolpur in Uttar Pradesh where 90% of the residents are said to be Brahmins, to understand what the political alignment of the community is. A variety of political flags were seen flying atop different houses and many villagers claim that Brahmin opinion is varied and people in the village do not collectively favour any particular candidate or political party. Antibrahminism has been explained in terms of racism, xenophobia, projected guilt, displaced aggression, and the search for a scapegoat. Some explanations assign partial blame to the perception of brahmin people as unsociable. Such a perception may have arisen by many brahmins having strictly kept to their own communities, with their own practices and laws.
It has also been suggested that parts of antibrahminism arose from a perception of brahmin people as greedy and this perception has probably evolved in India during
Medieval times where a large portion of jobs and education was operated by brahmins.
